Never forget Mike Lebron

Wow, morality, philosophy and ethics on a pool forum 🤣 who'd have thunk it?

Yeah, again, my bad for commenting back to his nonsense. Sorry all.
You gotta get it off your chest or it'll help kill ya. Just feeling that the money in this world is never up for discussion. Sure, numbers here and there. Nothing you could get in their way with. You want proof, count the one percenters. :D

Speaking ill of the dead, cannot be a good idea. Whatever happened, happened, and it will all be judged, isn't that punishment enough?
How will any of us answer, when it is our turn, to watch the story of our lives?
Unless you believe you are the pinnacle of this existence, which seems it's own punishment to me.
isn't Lebron still alive?

A couple of prior AzB threads on the 1991 Challenge of Champions:

Thank you.

More people need to know.

The older the threads mean the closer to the truth. Since some that live to tell were around in those threads. Soon people will have never heard of this story or live to tell it.

I thought everyone knew of this.
I remember watching a recording of that match and thinking, "I can't believe Buddy played that poorly."
It was not until after that I learned about the fix.
Shameful.
A bunch of guys set men's professional pool back decades for a quick payday.
IIRC, Earl was told about it and wanted no part of it.
Maybe someone can tell me if that's true.
I heard the same...Earl: "Count me out."

Rumor is allegedly each bet $6.5K so each profited $130K (about $300K today's money) on 20-1. In addition winner $50K split 8 ways probably to cover their bet in case Lebron accidentally lost under pressure  Lebron upset Rempe, Howard, Hall all favorites over him

That's what I have read in various places now

Claiming you know, when you don’t, is somewhat reprehensible.
Who is claiming to know?
Some people do know, and some people don't.
I think this has been comprehensively covered in the above posts that were shared.

If you had never seen this thread, and you watched this happen today... One of the world's best, playing in that way, I would be very surprised if someone just said 'Oh he's had a shocker' - anyone who has competently held a stick can see it's a dump, so to me, it's strange that the details weren't simply expected to be made common knowledge, and people let things slip by the way side.
I prefer that 'live in shame till you own your mistakes' school of thought - assuming there is some form of conscience, I hope it weighs heavily, and stays visible for a long time. I wonder how many people profited, and I wonder just how much.
Still think this. don't care about someone's persona, just the integrity of the game, and the perception of the game I enjoy playing.

When other players miss a foul shot, penalty kick, field goal or an simple put no one assumes cheating.

On competitive math tests if someone messes up the calculations then its not cheating, its called request to be fired.

Why is there all this targeted propaganda against a player who missed?
bullshit keeps us in bondage

truth makes us free

watch the 6 min vid in one of the early posts

if your not familiar how BH played get someone who is to watch it with you

hit em str8

.

I do know what happened (all of it) and spoke about on an earlier thread many years ago. I won't be repeating it on here. As far as I'm concerned it's all water under the bridge from over thirty years ago, and has absolutely no bearing on where Pool is at today. Everyone makes mistakes including all of us on here, so time to let this one go. Have a nice night! (y)

If that was considered sports drama, then today's pool matches are all about Matching Up.

The most recent scandal would be Heyball being taken direct control by WPA

Where is the magical Heyball craze happening? The WPA promotional material is unusual to an American investor,

Heyball youtube looks like it is sponsored by barbers. Some of those haircuts are awful

Pool players are garbage, and used Mike to line their pockets

Pool players are why pool is where it is
And pool is cruel to its own. American railbirds continue to pound pool players as if the pool players are the Klingons in their Starship Enterprise.

Meanwhile, those bashers on the Starship Enterprise, most of 'em can't run three balls in a row. It helps them feel superior to continually trash and bash the pro players. No wonder pool is circling the drain in USA. Our own people don't even like us and would rather root for robotic tournament soldiers playing mum pool in another country.

It’s funny, old pros and hustlers are often heralded for dumping the sucker. Here, the sucker (allegedly) was the casino. And most people today are going bananas over it.

The dumper isn’t even that bad in the pool world. Way worse is the knocker. Read Bentivegnas book for the low down.

Dumping and gambling (in any endeavor) will never be separated.

Me personally, I don’t care if all of the 8 for fact did this. Maybe ppl will look down on me for saying that.

The truth is that’s just how life works. People are always looking for an edge. Not everyone of course, but certainly some. I was set up 25 years ago by a friend to an out of town way way way better player. Lost a few K. I was mad as hell at the time. I got over it in a few days. Was not mad anymore. Realized he was looking for a score. He was a gambler, like me. He did what he needed to do to build his stake back up.

Anytime money is involved, expect funny business. Facts of life.
