A good con man can look you right in the eye and lie to you. That's their stock in trade.

rackmsuckr said:I just found the player's meeting from the World Open. I THOUGHT I had taped it, but never knew what I did with the teeny cassette once I got back. Well, I decided to play it this morning...looking for any signs of subterfuge or knowledge of not having funds available for payment. Any hedging, or signs of lying. Mike refused to watch it...the idea makes him sick to his stomach.
I have to admit, I felt queasy too. I popped in the tape and watched carefully. He talks about TV ratings and schedules, about the Ho deal, sponsors, about the $100K guaranteed, about what the players could do to help, about the dress code and RULES and being RESPONSIBLE, and that the payouts would be between 11 and 12 on Sunday. He said you could stay, or leave, even have someone else pick up the check for you by signing a form with one of the staff.
He did mention how long it took to get businesses off the ground and to see a return and that he could not predict the outcome of the tour and that there will always be changes.
NOWHERE did I see any sign of lying! Ok, ok, you're going to say his lips were moving, but really, I did not see the usual signs of prevarication. Either:
1. he is so good at it,
2. he truly believes in what he is saying, or
3. he fully expected the money to be there by Sunday,
but he never once stalled, shifted gears, or shifted his glance, either.
I will try to post it somewhere and let you get a look, maybe after the holidays.

Subject: IPT Updates
Dear IPT players & all qualifier participants,
(snip) In any other business, such as the airlines, this would
not happen. The business would simply file for bankruptcy and have no legal
obligation to pay back anyone. (snip)
Happy holidays to all,
