Next TAR-matches?

I would love to see my favourite player Roberto Gomez in a race to 100 in 10-ball, and I would love to see him beat Shane van Boring. eh, sorry, Shane van Boening. ;)

Yeah. I second that. Bring Superman here. He was the one who impressed me the most in the last WPC. And I read recently that he has been beating the likes of CS Yang, Souquet and Orcullo so he must be in top form.

Here is the thing....keep in mind that TAR is a couple of dudes in Sioux Falls who six months ago had an idea and a rolodex of about 3 numbers. There is alot involved with getting a guy from the PI to fly here and play a match....oh yeah...and bring at least $10K to buy in.

The things we do require alot of cooperation from the players and their sponsor/backers. Simply put the reason it is so difficult for us to make these matches with the international players is that we can not afford to pay for their travel back and forth, we can not guarantee them any money up front other than a piece of the gate and most of their compensation comes on the back end from DVD sales. Now add in that most players will not fly half way around the world to match up without GUARANTEED money or at least all their expenses covered. Neither of which we are able to provide at this time.

Play at or after a tournament you say? A good idea and one we are working on....but..the logistics are always, always, always ridiculous. You have to get 2 players and their money together at the same time in a place with the proper equipment and the infrastructure to support the taping and broadcast. And preferably do it with enough lead time to tell people about it. It is not as easy as it sounds.

We have recieved an amazing amount of support from the players and sponsors we have worked with so far, and have built some good relationships. We plan to expand that network to inculde international players as fast as we can. We all want to see the best in the world play in the style of matches we produce.

Frankly if someone would of told us how crazy it can be to get these things to go off, I personally, probably would not have went down this road, but since we started, it is so much fun when one does go off that it is worth all the headaches of putting it together. That and the unbelievable amount of support we have recieved from this community and pool players and fans all over the world. I feel lucky to be able to do this.

We have 2 matches coming up involving Shane in the near future. Both have been verbally agreed to by all parties regarding times, dates, and entry fees. But after our recent experience at the Derby with things going wrong for various reasons....we will wait until money is up before making any announcement.

Thanks for all your interest and support, we have some great things lined up for the next couple of months. You can count on us trying to get the matches everyone is talking about put together.

One final thing, if anyone knows these players personally or how to get in touch with them, please let us know. I do not have the first clue how to contact a player in Taiwan about matching up.

Thanks for the reply, jCIN. I do not know why Bugsy's players boycotted the Derby but it would have nice to see his boys match up against SVB. Hope those future matches between SVB and a top player from the Philippines or Taiwan materializes soon. More power to you!!!!

Well its obvious to me Justin, we're going to have to make you DOT COM millionaires so you guys can afford to do all of that stuff. How else are we going to get it. I'm not being facetious. I really think you guys have a good thing going and are doing a great job.
One thing I want to warn you though is that you have to have an addition to your stable of players. The Schmidt/Harriman thing was good because you would never get to see these guys match up together for the cash. Too much of Shane is like getting Prime Rib every day. You might want Fried Chicken once in a while. Thats why the Chohan/ Cannon thing was so exciting.
Anyway this is no criticism on my part. I love you guys and what you are doing for us. It is what I suggested to Rob Sykora at BCN but he was looking for things on a grander scale.
You guys are speaking to the core of pool players. Right where we live. You got the pulse of the pool nation and we eagerly await your next events.

Sorry Sir the remark about Shane being "boring" is misguided. The guy is in his early 20's. Most of them that age is just figuring out how to read a textbook and whats the best way to get rid of a hangover. Well not most of them but if you go by MTV and VH1 that seems the trend. But give the young man some time and he will come up with greater and better things. Remember when Efren first started. He was just a 9 ball machine. But he added the kicks and the safeties and turned our world upside down when he learned the great game of one hole. I expect the same great things from Mr Van Boening.

After the Chohan/Daulton fiasco we are not announcing anything till money is up. We broke our own rule on that one....will not happen again. We have some exciting things in store....but till the money is up they are not real.

We will for sure be in Reno for the U.S. Bar Table Championships. Working out the internet logistics now. We will probably do about 12 hours of coverage a day of the tournament with maybe some of the finals as a cheap PayPerView. If any action comes up we will of course be all over that.

Thanks for everyone who has supported us...stick with us we have some cool things in store. It can be like herding cats sometimes but when it comes together it is worth it.

I highly recommend this match. And not just because I'm on it (but it helps :) ). It has a little bit of everything, including hilarious commentary by Bob and Jeanette. They sound just like a couple of ex's, which they are.

Bugsy boycotted Derby because of many reasons. During my stay in Manila in November I asked Perry and Verna (owners of Bugsy) who they were going to send to Derby, and I recommended them to send Roberto Gomez, because of his all-around skills. (This was BEFORE the WC, btw)

Then they told me that they doubted they would send anyone, because there was so much things going on in Asia and Phillippines now, with lots of tournaments, tv-exposure ++.

Then they said that before US Open they were told that pricemoney for 2nd was 25 000 $, but when Alcano (Bugsy player) finished 2nd he only got 20 000 $. This had happened on other tournaments too, where the advertised pricemoney were higher then the actual payout, and they were not happy with the situation.

Besides, it is expensive to go to the States, and 1/3 of the winnings must be paid in tax to the United States.


Explanation for calling Shane for Shane van Boring. When I saw him play at One Side in Manila, and after watching him beat Corey Deuel, I felt the same as I feel when Dennis Orcullo and Ralf Souquet is playing. Nothing extraordinary ever happen, they just play damn good. Never do mistakes. Play safe when they have to, and run out if open table. It gets boring to watch in the end... Give me some mistakes, let me see some human moves... :D
