NO Match for Harriman/Schmidt

Dude, I can't win with you. Its not adult conversation as you put it its is private conversations that I am not going to repeat. you are taking everything wrong all the way through this thread. So I have decided that I will let you do and say what you are gonna and leave you alone. Cheer up buddy seriously this isn't the end of the world here. I really hope the best for you and hope you can re look at what I have said and try reading it in a positive way instread of an angry way. Please.

Dude

My anger is in your imagination, just like that punch.

You seem to be indicating my 2 choices are:

1) understand you

2) be too angry to see your sense

I assure you there is at least a 3rd option, sorry you don't see it. Maybe soon you will be in a place where you can see as clearly as me. I hope that for you.

Condescending enough dude?

That's what the outrage is about here, not us whining about not getting the match we want. There was absolutely no need to make any public statement at all, just tell John in private that they don't approve of the match and let it go. Coming on here like our high school principal telling us there's no way she's gonna allow the dance on Friday night is insulting.

I knew nothing of Str8 Shots before this aside from a statement Mark made several weeks ago regarding him now working for them. When Kim comes onto our forum and alludes to what a powerful force she is in pro pool, I don't really feel I'm supposed to have to research her company and any good it may be doing before I'm allowed to express my indignation. She handled this poorly and can't admit it. She obviously has much to learn about the pool world before she's gonna change anything for the better.

The biggest thing that pisses me off about all of this is the assumption that we only want to see this match because we want to see some blood leaking out of someone's face. Total BS. I can assure you that for 99% of prospective PPV purchasers of this match, the very last thing we want is for a fight to ruin the pool. These two guys are the best American straight pool specialists in the country right now. I want to see them play, and would be extremely disappointed if any hostilities of any kind occurred.

FWIW I buy a lot of PPVs, some of them I don't end up watching. I'm not rich, but I love pool and do what I can to support the players in my own way. I've never been a great player, so I live vicariously through those who are great. But if Str8 Shots continues along this power trip then I just can't justify sending them any of my hard-earned dough.

BTW it has not escaped my attention that another horse in her stable has been acting out a wee bit in public. I love Jayson and think he's destined for greatness, but he's a hothead, and I'll bet a heck of a lot more likely to throw his fist at somebody during a match than Danny ever would.

My feeling exactly. At first it was Kim treating us like we are kids in school and now we've got Vice-Prinicipal Cantrill telling us that if we knew what the smart people knew, we'd agree. I never went for it then, I don't go for it now.

8000 better ways they could have nixed this match. I can see they perceive themselves as some kind of pool powerhouse. We'll see how that works out for them.

My observations that add nothing new while probably drawing the ire of the pro-Str8 Shoters:

Everyone on Team Str8 Shots signed a contract to uphold these values and the image of professionalism. All of the players are aware that to violate the terms would be an immediate termination of their contracts.

If that is really the case, why not just allow JS to play with the stipulation (that's probably already in his contract) that any lapse in professionalism could lead to termination of his contract?

We spoke with both players and were informed the TAR match was not an option. Therefore from our perspective that offer was off the table. Based on the verbal agreement both players had made with Mark Cantrill, it was apparent that there were several factors that still needed to be addressed to make the match successful. Those factors included; time to prepare for the match, the formats for the match, the rules that would govern the match, and fair compensation for both of the players. After all of those things had been negotiated, both players would have to agree to do the match under the new guidelines.

Sometimes this process takes a lot of hand holding and negotiating between the promoter, host site, sponsors, and players. As Justin stated 19 months ago when trying to get this match scheduled, “I know that no matter what something is going to not be good enough. No matter how much work, ego stroking, hand holding or babysitting it's not going to be enough. One guy will say something to the other and piss them off and they will not want to play, one guy will want a rule the other doesn’t and they won’t want to play, one will want to sit in a chair the other wants. Some things just are not meant to be.”

Str8 Shots made the decision, based on all of the above information, not to move forward with promoting or sponsoring the match at this time.

What does any of the information above have to do with the "volatility factor between JS and DH" that was apparently the deciding factor in not giving JS the blessing to play?

It was not our intention to stop any player from doing the matches that are presented to them by any promoter.

That's debatable. It seems like you're intending to stop this match because it doesn't serve your interests.

However, at the time of our decision on Friday, based on all the facts before us, no match could take place because TAR was off the table and we were not moving forward.

Noooo....TAR wasn't off the table until you said that JS wasn't playing. At that point, it came off the table.

We do not control or make decisions for any of our players.

Um....yeah, you are. JS said he would play, and you're saying that JS will not be playing. Isn't that kinda sorta controlling the decision?

Our players make the final decision as to whether or not they take an opportunity presented to them by any promoter. However, we feel it would hypocritical if we did not inform the player that the opportunity presented, knowingly puts them in a position to violate their contract.

Well now, here's the one STR8 thing I get out of this, and also the sad truth.

I think that Kimberly could have left out the other however many paragraphs of her posts and simply said this. That way people like me won't dissect the jargon she posts into a bunch of individual talking points.

It sounds like the choice was up to JS to decline the match...with a little birdie in his ear reminding him of his contractual obligations. Looking forward to hearing his official stance on it.

Just like to say one thing. I would like to have seen this match happen. I mentioned that John and Danny may have forgotten their differences once this match was over, or maybe
less than before. I seriously doubt that it would have been anything but a great match.

Mark has been a member here for a few years, lets not be too hard on him as he is a great guy and has tried to do his best with the Legends Tour.

He is also an employee of Str8Shots and is only following orders. I'm sure deep down he would like to see John and Danny play but his hands are as tied as John's are at the moment.

and we wonder whats wrong with pool............well, this thread is just one clue.

I had a very positive opinion of John, and srr8shots a few days ago. Now either so much.

Take good care of your little boys babysitter.

Mark,

First of all I think it's great what you, Str8 Shot and TAR does for pool and I'm a big fan and supporter myself. But are you really trying to convince me that Danny and John can't be trusted to act like proper pros since the Str8 Shot kids could be watching? You are not giving these pros the benefit of the doubt if that's the case. But I think it has very little to do about this.

And so what if John and Danny said mean spirited things about each other to you over the phone. It not a bad thing, it means we will see a highly competitive match. SMH

And let's say something happens and things get ugly between the two during the match. It's a learning and teaching opportunity for these kids. Last thing you want to do is coddle them and hide the real world away from them.

You don't think they real this forum??

Upper management at Str8-shots make those calls not me. However I know hat I heard and I will leave it at that.

They were just bowing up over the phone. They would never fight. John isn't a fighter even though he gets a little barky and times and agitates things. And Danny is too introverted and the last thing he wants is controversy. Phone calls have a tendency to make you brave. I believe you are blowing this melt down threat way out of proportion and now you have gotten Kim all spun up once TAR made their offer. It's easy to see. Well played Sir..

Upper management at Str8-shots make those calls not me. However I know hat I heard and I will leave it at that.

It sucks !!!

Don't have anything to add cept it sux match won't be happening...just doing my lil part to try n hit the magic 50 page mark !!! :wave3::help::banghead:

Really?

When Mark Cantrill set about putting this match together, he really had no idea that the level of hostility that existed between the two players was so intense.

I am not going to read the whole thread, but are you saying Mark didn't know the hostility that existed between these two players? PLEASE
