No new cues on WANTED/FOR SALE anymore?

Generally the cost of doing business is passed on to the customer/consumer. For example take a look at the banking industry or even your local supermarket.

Ok, I have read more post than I can take at this point. I saw where you can link ebay to the WFS. Does anyone know if I can post it in the WFS that I have still customs at a special price for order on my site? I guess this sort of is posting that, but the question is what can and can't we do as far as our customs? I am not selling them here, so can I even mention them here if it is not on Ebay? I bet this has been covered, but after 50 pages of comments and people arguing the rules I just hope someone will give me a straight answer.....thanks

It's my understanding that you can only link to eBay in the WFS section but you can post pics of cues in the gallery and say they are available.

From the few posts by the mods this is what I figured.

I nominate KJ for President!!!!!

I appreciate the sentiment Alton but my brother BO is the right man for the job.
His IQ is a little higher than mine and for that job, you want the smartest guy in the room.
Give him some people that aren't constantly laying 'stop-strips' in his road and we can
get some things done.

Luv ya man, thanx again.

From what I gather in the few posts from AZ management on this topic is not that they want to recover fees for the sale of new items, but rather that they don't want to be involved in the execution of sales of new items at all due to complaints and legal fees associated with transactions gone wrong. This prompted my question about why would new items be susceptible to these problems, but used items are not... :scratchhead: This doesn't make sence to me. Anyway, it seems that they are trying to absolve themselves of any liability by being a method to list an item, but not being actually involved in the sale. (for NEW items only)

It certainly is possible that an accumulated listing fee could cover the legal costs now being experienced, or they could take steps to remove themselves from the transactions all together, and it seems they are attempting the latter by insisting the purchases be conducted off of AZ.

Following this logic, I would think that a link back to a cue maker's web site for a sale is the same as a link to eBay, although that has not been confirmed by AZ management.

The only reason that I can see for excluding NEW item sales rather than used item sales is that it will cut down on the multitude of listings by retailers who use this site as a free ecommerce sales vehicle.

I think the new items vs. used may be as simple as sponsors not wanting the competition....maybe.

I think we have a winner,,,,,,,,,,

Maybe it has something to do with it but still allowing dealers to post new stuff with a link to an Ebay listing wouldn't exactly change anything as far as new stuff showing up for sale in threads. Just means I have to click on an Ebay link instead of the PM button.

I don't see this as doing the cuemakers any favors, with the costs of selling on Ebay,,,,,,,,,,,,

update NO DEALERS?

have not listed a cue for sale, because of the new rules and i build and sell cues. i was told the forum was for players that decided to sell one of their old playing cues, man, i had no idea that there were that many players selling their old cues, as of this morning. these are for sale. 47 cues sold, 72 cues sold, 62 cues sold, 22 cues sold,, 37 cues sold, 92 cues sold, 34 cues sold.

I just sell from a new community forum now and run all my specials there. Ebay costs a fortune. The only down side it that AZ won't let me link to my cues there....but only if I use Ebay. Maybe they cut a deal with them????

Cut a deal with Ebay? That made me spit my soda on the ole keyboard!

The only deal Ebay gives to it's high earners is looking the other way when they screw a buyer:mad:

I love the way they get a percentage of the shipping cost. If you want to charge the real shipping price you do so at a loss.

My apology to Ebay. You get a small discount once you begin earning 35k a year, add phone support from 6am-10pm, and offer 24 hour email support.

LOL....that was my point. If I sell just a few cues a month there my ebay bill is way over 100.00. Gotta love it

You can list on ebay for .50cts and only pay commission when it sells. Pad the price to offset the fee.

I understand how to counter the cost of ebay. I don't like to have to pass that on to my customer as my goal is to sell cues at the best price I can. If there are other avenues to sell them, why pay ebay for it?

Um well because the place you want to sell your cues and NOT pay a fee for the listing has explicitly made it clear that IF you want to use the forum then you must link to an Ebay ad.

The only other places at the moment which charge no fees, those being your own marketplace site, my marketplace site, Lee Peppers' marketplace site, and Renegade's marketplace site don't have the traffic of AZ Billiards or you wouldn't be here discussing it.

So the choice is to list according to the rules laid down and pay Ebay's fees or don't list. There are many ways to list on Ebay to encourage people to contact you outside Ebay to complete a sale if you want to avoid the commission. Ebay knows this and that's why they let people list in a store format and have listings that are essentially advertisments rather than listings for items immediately available for sale.

Lastly, as a veteran of the Flea Market I understand the power of a popular market. The fact of life is that in order to get access to the shoppers you have to pay the rent. And every vendor passes those costs on to the consumer.

Everyone had a free ride on AZ for a long time. Now it's over.

My suggestion is to put your cues for sale in your signature and then participate in the forum as a member joining in discussions and people will find you.

I usually leave my sig on once per thread or once per page and then choose not to show it if I make multiple posts in a thread. I also remove it when posting in any other case maker's thread. I find that this works well to keep the name in front of folks without being too much. The thing is that you should genuinely participate in the discussions with worthwhile content. People know when it's just spam to show off a billboard sized signature ad.

Complaining about other people getting away with posting new stuff is like complaining to the cop who pulled you over that everyone else is speeding. You are right but it doesn't matter. Best is to remember that this isn't your playground. Remember back in the day when you were a kid and you went to the skating rink to hang with your friends and then one day it was gone? Never knew why but it was just closed up? So a lot of the kids you hung with were gone too because you all used to hang out at the rink without knowing much more about each other.

Well that's AZ to a small degree. This thing could be gone in ten seconds. So if you like being here and having access to all the people who come here each day the best thing is to chill and go with the flow for as long as it lasts.

They provide the widest market and best exposure. I sold an old Joss for $2100.00 that was for sale for a year and honestly could not get $1000.00 locally.
