No Nuts

so your saying i should give him weight even if he says he has the nuts already? excuse me if im being a nit i just need some advice

if he REALLY thinks he has the nuts...offer weight, and he'll think it's a lock, play for MORE, and stick around longer. Good business my man. Remember, you are the one who said you've won 11 outta 12 times. Doesn't sound like he has the nuts to me, and he knows it regardless of what he tells other people. Just trying to help you string him along!!!

i know for a fact he doesnt have the nuts hes just a nit with no heart and cant let go of his pride. Two days ago were playing for ten a game nine ball im sever or eight games up hes makes a remark lets play for a hundred i tell him ok he shut up real quick

Dude, go find someone who plays better. If you have beat this guy 11/12 times and wont come off a little spot, you are the one that needs the chest exam.

Alright, I'll give some advice.

Are you in it for the money only? If so..This conversation is over. I like to gamble too, but I like improving much more than gambling.

Are you in it to improve? Then start off spotting him a ball on your break, and play for whatever he feels COMFORTABLE playing for. Don't push the bet. Trying to jack the bet when you are ROBBING, and when BOTH you and your opponent deep down KNOW you are robbing, is just gonna piss the guy off and he will just quit playing you.

I used to play with a guy all the time in the pool hall I frequented back in WA. He offered to play $5 One Pocket, and I accepted, because he could play a little and I just wanted some heat on my game.

I got about $15 in his pocket, no big deal..Kept the game friendly, laughing, joking, whatnot.

He bumped the bet to $10, and I started focusing..He got down few more games, and I offered him the breaks to even out the game a little, as he was getting beat by a lot of balls, but was also struggling with his shotmaking.

We got up to $60 a game by the end of the night. It NEVER would have got that high if I was just content to rob him.

I got myself in dead stroke for like 4 hours because I made the game VERY challenging. it would not have happened if I just tried to barely win every game, in order to keep from having to spot him.

WTF? I'd like to know what your definition of a nit is????

He's been beat 11/12 times by the same guy, and does not try to adjust the game. Seems like he is anything but a nit, and has PLENTY of heart.

Not a lot of brains, but plenty of heart.

So, you want him to allow you to jack the bet, when he knows he can't beat you? That seems about as nitty as it gets, man.

I don't get you, dude. And by everything you've said, I very MUCH doubt you've matched up with the top players in your area.

exactly the way it's done Russ...you gotta push yourself to get better! I don't think this will guy listen though. He's still focussing on what the guy is saying to others instead of making it a better game for his opponent (more inticing). The guy getting beat KNOWS he has the worst of it (may not admit it), and he's gonna see less and less of him if he keeps wanting to jack the bet....

So, I'll say it ONE LAST TIME. Your opponent can spout off all he wants about you, your lack of heart, how he can beat you, WHATEVER!!! But, soon, real soon, you are going to lose your $10 game with him if you decide you need to keep STEALING because of what he texts the room owner!!! OK?!

Then I'm sure you could have gotten him to bite if you offered the 8.

It's not about the money. Its about doing what is right.

While you are concentrating on this situation with a player that you will probably beat every time you play him, those "better players" are watching your every move. Like it or not, you will be judged by those guys - and if you're reluctant to offer weight to someone that you beat 11 out of 12 times ... remember... you're being watched and they are taking notes.

There is no sin in offering the guy some weight. I would rather offer it than to have to be asked for it. FWIW, nobody should have to tell me when I should make that offer.

If you've only been playing for a year, then it would do you well to avoid making bad "business decisions" from the start. I know players that get trapped into the line of thinking you are offering here, and it gets really sad after you watch these guys operate the same way for 20-25 + years.

Don't be one of those guys. All they get is easy money (and easy money doesn't last forever).

Be the guy that will play even because he has the heart and the balls to do so - and be the guy that is known for giving up weight when he is supposed to. That is the guy that gets the respect. (that will last a lifetime)

DING DING DING!! Hopefully the OP will take the advice of someone who's played more than a year....

I thought it was all pretty much common sense, but some do need it S-P-E-L-L-E-D out for them, I guess.

So you offer the guy some weight that he can't turn down, jack the bet to $20 a game and still rob the guy!...Now the guy knows for sure he has no chance to beat you....so he quits playing against you, what a stupid move!!! When I was in the army stationed in Europe, I had about 30 guys I played like this guy all the time...and I never once tried to beat their brains out...just to prove I could beat them....because then I'd never have that lunch money again!!! I made more money every month playing pool than I got paid from the Army!!!! As long as I knew I could beat the daylights out of the person I was playing...there was no point to prove to anyone....all I wanted was the money EVERY month! Put your ego back in your pants and keep getting the cash!!! If you want to find out just how good you are...take THAT money and go play someone better than you, then you can make yourself feel good when you loose to a better player....because after all it wasn't YOUR money you lost in the first place....it was someone Else's money you already won!

Well glen, you had a good thing goin...no doubt. But, I don't know many guys that'll stick around losing 11 of 12....what were they chasing? pride?

It doesn't sound like this kid is hiding his speed. He's just beating the guy and asking to jack the bet. Won't work; at least not for very long. Offer him something, play for the same stakes, go 8 for 12, with much closer games, and his opponent will think he can get there, and may even wanna jack the bet himself to see if someone only playing for a year can handle the extra pressure.

Besides, Blackjack was right....there are other eyes on it. If clubbing baby seals (as Hu puts it) is available, you can give it a go, but sooner or later you'll club 'em into extinction.

I was in a local pool room last night playing a guy one pocket for ten a game.(i wanted to play for twenty, but the nit wont bet twenty) I win first 3 games guy tells me hes done and just walks out. A few minutes later he text the guy that runs the pool room and tells him i have no nuts and he will get me next time. We have played over a dozen times and he has came away with the money only once. Am i missing something here? How do i have no nuts when i wanted to bet twenty and had to beg him to bet ten?

Sounds like he's on the hook and he likes playing you, appreciate what you've got otherwise you'll scare em off. When you start giving out weight to another that hasn't asked for it your settin' up and end game.

At least you got action. If all he can afford to lose is $10 a pop, well, take it or leave it. I would take it if I knew that I am stealing. Why not??? I think you have the wrong attitude. Pool isn't a street fight or a show down at the OK Corral. Let him think he can win. That means that you will make more money. I love when someone has no respect for my game. I try to shear them as many times as possible before I skin them.

thanks for the advice guys.......when i first started playing i got my nuts shots off everytime but i never gave up and kept playing everyday......im just now getting to the point where i can try to outrun a little spot........ive only gambled playing one pocket a couple times we mostly play nineball...one more question.... What spot do we start off at in one pocket and nine ball?

he thinks because he beat you once, that he can do it everytime. He has an inflated opinion of his game. He should be good for lots of dollars over the years.

Sheesh, 10 dollar 1 pocket is like one dollar 9 ball. Hard way to make a living!!! ... LOL

who says im trying to make a living? I dont play good enough to make a living playing pool

What???

What are you looking for here? Is he a nit because he knows his limitations?
You got to know when to stop woofing , take your $10.00 wins and be happy.
It sounds like he's walking away from you , not the game.:oink:

WHAT ARE YOU BI##ching ABOUT YOU GOT HIS MONEY AND SOUNDS LIKE HE GOING TO PLAY YOU AGAIN> DITTO!!!!!:mad::mad:

Dummy up and play this guy like a cheap radio. Just give him a win, every now and then, and tell him what a bang-up job he's doing. Never intentionally kill a cash cow.

i left out the part about him walking out without paying me. Should i be pissed off about that or just let it go? This is the first time he did this

If you doubt ive matched up with the area top players come see for yourself......

Who are they and how good do they play?? ANYBODY can woof from a computer. We've seen it here lots of times. If you're good, you don't have to brag about it.
