So I'm just getting back into pool, have been out of the game for quite a while, but was a 30hr/week pool player a while back before I joined the military and just didn't have time

I had a Huebler before I quite playing, but sold it to a friend before I left for the Army. I have been reading around a bit and have found a LOT of mixed reviews about Huebler's newer cues, lower quality and the likes.

The owner of the pool hall back where I'm originally from owned a Jazz custom cue that played like nothing I had played with before, and I would love to find one of them, though I have found hardly any mention of jazz custom cues even on these boards, are they really that rare or what?

Hopefully I haven't rambled too much in my first post. But after reading the forums for a few hours, these are the questions I didn't seem to find a lot of answers for. Thank you all.

Also if anyone is in Hawaii and knows any cues for sale, feel free to send me a PM. Thanks.

Never heard of jazz cues myself. If google can't find your answers it may be tough sledding....but if anybody is gonna know about em, it will be somebody here.

As far as cues for sale we got that handled like nobody's business. Scroll on over the wanted/for sale forum. Tons of nice cues changing hands there...second most popular forum here I believe.

And welcome to the boards and back to the game! You have found the right place on the interwebs to discuss all things pool related.

Jaz or jazz? i know a guy here in phoenix that goes by JAZ that made cues for awhile that played pretty good. he has a pro shop at metro sportz bar and only does repairs now.

Spyral7...I think Huebler cues play really well (I've owned several of them). You may know this or not. There are no new Huebler cues, as Paul Huebler passed away last year.

Scott, I was not aware that Paul Huebler passed last year. As I said, I have been very out of the game fo about the last 4-5 years, and was in Iraq for 15 months as well, so not a lot of pool playing going on there.

Jason - I bet it was a JAZ, because the owner of the pool hall was from AZ, and said he had the cue custom made there in Phoenix before moving to Missouri where he opened his pool hall. Thanks for the info.

Not quite sure what I am going to end up with as a player. Still going over budget and the likes. There is a Schon LTD f/s locally that I'm kind of interested in. Not sure if the price is right for what he has. http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/spo/1722896651.html

If anyone has a chance to take a look at that link, it's the cue that I was thinking about.

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the help.

Spyral,

First off, thanks you for your service!! And welcome to the forums. Unless you are in a hurry, hang out for a little while, check out the for sale forum and do some searches on different brands. Match those findings against your budget and you should find a cue that's right for you.

Dogs, thanks for the info. I've been perusing the For sale forum. A buddy of mine back when I was playing often payed the money for nice Schon, I hit it a few times and was VERY impressed, and have heard that Schon's base cues play very nice.

If anyone would have a chance to take at the Schon I was thinking about here locally I would greatly appreciate it. I have searched a bit and the $550 he's asking seems like a decent price, just not 100% on it.

Also, I would be very interested in knowing if any of the JAZ cues were available locally in Pheonix area Jason. I appreciate the info on the JAZ name and whatnot, and would much enjoy owning one as the one that I played a few times was amazing to play.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your military service. As for the cue you're looking at, my personal experience is that every Schon i've played with hits differently. I've just never held them in the same high regard many do. But thats just my opinion and everyones got one. Good luck in finding a cue and enjoy the forum.

FYI, you can buy this cue (STL03) new with one shaft for 500$ shipped. 120$ more for an extra shaft. Look at HERE

Will have to hit some balls with it. I contacted the seller and he hasn't played the cue in months, hoping he will meet me at a pool hall and let me hit a few shots with it and see how it plays.

There are so few cues around here for sale, but really wanting to hit before I purchase, otherwise there are 2 or 3 cues in the F/S section that I would be quite interested in picking up. Once I'm playing regularly again I'm sure I will be picking up another player or 2, and most likely through the forums.

The only nicer cues I have found around here are 3 Richard Black's that are sitting in the display case at the ONLY local pool hall anywhere near me on this island, and I haven't really looked at those because the asking price is WELL out of my current budget, especially since I'm JUST starting to get back into it.

Thank you all again for the help and input. I'm glad I found these forums.

BillB - Thanks for the link. I might have to do that. I think the cue I'm looking at locally is actually that EXACT cue. If I can get it for 500 or 550 with both shafts I will probably go that route since I will be able to hit it before I buy it.
