That's doesn't sound like something a instructor can help you with it sounds like an equipment problem

i got the impression he was talking about the ball hitting the back/bottom of the pocket and bouncing back on the table.
sounds like you're just missing the shot. you can hit it as hard as you want. as long as you split the pocket
The back of a pocket has a angle to it so a ball will deflect into the pocket instead of straight back. If the rear of the pocket is deformed the ball will rebound back out if hit too hard.
The other is balls that are not hit into the center of the pocket when hit hard have a tendency to "jar" or "rattle" the opening and then bounce out.
Just try using a smoother softer stroke when trying to break out balls. You will be surprised that not much force is required.

If I'm shooting directly into the center of the pocket, it is not a problem. I will set up some shots which are not directly into the pocket along with some clusters & experiment with various speeds.

So your saying the ball is hitting the back of the center of the pocket and popping back onto the table? If thats your problem then I would definately agree with an improper set up pocket.
The Olhausen's here at the Fast Eddies...there is definitely something wrong with their set up.
If a pocket is tough you can throw just a tad of INSIDE on it as long as you dont kill the ball. The obj. ball will drop, the slight spin takes it in...
Those Olhausen's tho they just rattle like I've never seen.
I've played much on Diamonds with tight pockets and you know you missed it on the Diamond...the Olhausen, its like its got a mind of its own at times.

Jeez I'm telling you...my good friend was with me the other day and I had just broke an ran 3 racks on the nine foot. I break the 4th rack and shoot the one and BANG she crapped out on me...he says yea thats CRAZY EDDIES for ya....tables will make you shoot yourself, LOL.
Seriously tho I would really like to know what the inherent problem with those tables are....because imop they are about as good as a crooked cue...nothing but a problem. Does anyone have an explanation to this? Is it the pocket cut? The height of the rails? Or does the company just have a voodoo hex on them, this would make sense to me...I'd swear those pockets got the devil in them.

Olhausens used to be the tops. What happend to them to cause their slide in the market?
They have Olhausens where I regularly play. I despise them, they are all less than a year old. I've never seen so many balls go in pockets and come out. I've seen the cue ball go all the way down out of sight on a break just to reappear rolling back down the table.
The pocket angle tends to throw the ball into the opposite facing.
The extra shelf depth doesn't help. It gives the ball more room to rattle.
The poket facing down angle lends itself to rattles.
There is multiple threads on this subject with some very useful info from well respected people in them. I do own a Olhausen and the pockets are tough.
