OB Classic pro shaft vs Tiger X pro

Hey guys, I need some feedback on how the Tiger X pro shaft stacks up against the OB classic pro shaft.

You won't get many replies since the Tiger X pro is brand new and in some way, still in development. I've tried them both. They are both good shafts and both feel great and in my opinion are better feeling shafts than the shaft they were designed to compete against - the Predator Z2.

The Tiger X Pro is a livelier shaft then the OB Pro Classic but still plenty stiff. The appearance on the Tiger is better - it's white wood like a conventional shaft, where on the OB you can see the laminations.

These are, of course, just one player's opinion.

I like them both, but I'm partial to the Tiger X in this 11.75 mm arena. I don't play with an 11.75mm Euro taper shaft - so I don't use either one, but I will say the X Pro is one of the best hitting and playing shafts I've ever encountered. It also has an Onyx tip which is perfectly suited to this shaft. It will hold up to all extremes of english and is consistent from shot to shot.

The OB Pro Classic is also a terrific playing shaft (I use the OB Classic 12.75 mm) and both of these are better in my opinion than a Predator Z. It is a little firmer shaft with a little less "feedback". I don't think anybody would be disappointed with either shaft.

They are both similar in that they have a Euro style taper, they are solid core inside, and they both have short ferrules. The feel on both shafts is similar to conventional shafts and they are both very low squirt.

I plan on having a "test/loaner" program for AZ Billiards members next month - we'll see how that deveolps.

Thank you

Thank Tate, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Im very interested in both shafts, but I would I like to test them out before I actually spend 200 dollars on one of them. I dont know anyone or any dealers in my area( southern illinois/ St.louis) that has Ob classic pro shafts. I know there aren't many Tiger X pro shaft out there yet. So if you do get the test/loaner deal started I would like to be considered for one.

Thank again Tate,
Jeff

OK Jeff, I'm pretty sure it's going to happen shortly. What kind of joint does your cue have? I know I'll be getting a radial to test and a 5/16 X 14 for sure.

Chris

Nice idea Chris. I'm kind of wishing I had a more common joint ... The Viking quick release isn't exactly found in a lot of places other than Vikings.

Do you have any other cues just to test it on?

This is giving me an idea to just get a sneaky with a 3/8 X 10 we can send out too - I have a bunch of old Dufferin house cues we could use.

tate, what do you mean when you say the tiger shafts are still in development? what exactly is being developed?

The X-Pro is pretty much done. There may be small tweaks to get weight and balance consistency from shaft to shaft.

They are still tweaking the Ultra LD to make it a bit more LD and a slightly better feel. They are doing this by experimenting with the ferrule/tip combination. The last test shafts I tried were great.

This information is now about a month old and they may have it all settled by now.

I have a couple cues with a 3/8 X 10

I've tried all of the new shafts with the 11.75 diameter because my preference has alway been for the smaller shafts. The Z shaft being one of the first. And it was ok but I wanted to experience the others so that I could have a good reference between all of them.

I had one of the older Tiger shafts and turned it down in size. I thought it played ok but I had trouble with it on extreme shots, probably because It wasn't meant to be sized down. In turning that shaft down the walls of the shaft were weakened and it lost some of it's playability.

I then played with the Ob2 and it was a fine shaft but I found the hit to be a bit soft and not to my liking. Next came the Ob Classic, this is a very good shaft and after playing with it for a few weeks I though I found what I had been expecting from a shaft. Now, when Tiger introduced the X-pro shaft I had to get one to compare. I have now been playing with it for a month and can say that my personal preference is the X-pro. In comparing it with the OB classic it is a little lighter up front and gives me more feel to my hand and arm. It is not quite as stiff as the Classic. The hit and feel of the X-pro is somewhat like a conventional shaft but gives me all that an ld shaft has to offer. I like that the wood on the shaft is lighter and not so dark as the OB Classic. This shaft with the Onyx tip is a good combination.

I just got back from playing in the three man Masters tournament in Vegas, where we came in third, and I played quite well with the X-pro and with only about three weeks of playing with it. I'm looking forward to see what more this new shaft can do for an old man's game like myself.
So in conclusion I can say that my personal preference is for the x-pro but realize that we all have different things that we look for in our equipment.

The trials that Tate has proposed here sounds like an excellent idea for those that want to try before investing. I'm curious to see what others think about this new line of shafts from Tiger, especially opinions of the larger shafts from Tiger. I have only tried the X-pro, which is the thinner one.

Chris,
Please add my name to the tester/loaner list.
I use a Bender cue. I guess I will have to look up which thread that is.
Thanks,
Joey

i haven't hit w/ the Tiger, but what I can tell you is that the OB Classic Pro is what I play with and it is BY FAR (I can't stress this enough...) BY FAR the best shaft that I've ever played with including a predator z2 and an OB-2.

what would you say is the biggest difference??

I'm glad you like your OB Classic Pro. I play with an OB Classic (12.75 mm) and received one of the early shafts in Febuary and reviewed it here. I also think it's the best shaft I've ever used and wouldn't trade it in.

Any plans for Tiger to offer a 12.75mm onyx on one of their shafts? I need a 3/8x10.

Yes. The new Ultra LD has been modified to have a short ferrule and Onyx can be ordered with it. The new batch will be done in about 2 weeks - wait for it, the shafts have been modified and it's the best one yet. Tiger really listened to player feedback on this one and I think they got it right.

I just switched over to the Onyx from Everest on my OB Classic and so far, so good.

I'm going to have a loaner/tester program shortly for AZ Members - I'm announcing it on Thursday.

the X-pro hits great, I really loved it so much - if it wasn't so thin I would buy it for my cue, currently I use Universal smart shaft, yesterday I was hitting with x-pro and I couldn't stop myself from playing, its that good.
