Here's a thought, as it might be a bad thought it is a thought. Below is an email for Obama. Let's ask him to put a pool table in the White House! This would benefit all of us. We saw him banging them around and maybe he has a passion like us. Again, just a thought. I'm going there right now and at least ask the question.

I just sent this:

I would love to see Obama put a pool table in the White House again! This would help an industry that has been on the downturn. The last help we got was Paul Newman's The Color of Money, it would be a great photo op whenever needed.

It's worth a shot, when is the last time the White house had a pool table in it? I f he is very lucky we might be able to get Glen to set it up.

I actually did some research on the subject recently, and it seems that the White House has had a pool table in it ever since John Quincy Adams was president! Lincoln himself confessed to being a "pool addict", and nearly every president since has made use of the table (which I believe is a Brunswick) in the game room. If Obama truly is an enthusiast of the sport, and it seems safe to assume he is, then it would be nice if a photo or video of him enjoying the sport would occasionally be released to the public.

I personally don't see any difference between that and a president allowing reporters to hound him during a round of golf, which most of them have allowed at times. There's no advertising to it, it's just publicly showing ones enthusiasm for enjoying a game of pool in their free time, and it may be enough to spark a resurgence of interest in the sport. It certainly couldn't hurt anything.

Here's a page showing pictures of the White House game room, and giving a bit of history on it.

Good rolls,

I'll build him a cue as a gift for winning the election. Maybe he'll give a tax exeption :) I won't tell him I voted for the other guy.

I heard he was playing straight pool with a republican once and the republican ran 2 racks on him, but he took half the points to make it all even.

Not sure it will make much difference in the pool world but there will probably be a pool table in the white house. I have to humbly say I sort of know Obama and mentioned it to him about six months ago. He said it sounded cool. I saw him just two weeks ago and said "Don't forget about that pool table, I'm Buying". I got what seemed like a positive reaction. I have been working with his campaign almost a year and since Tuesday don't know what to do now. I am going through withdrawal. No matter who you personally voted for, on Tuesday our country has finally become what it has always pretended to be.

I hope you are right. Time will tell. Tension is high enough fopr something to snap. I sure hope he can walk a tightrope.

Tell that to a WWII veteran.... You might get shot. !!!!
Let us pray Obama does not have to deal with a 9/11 soon after taking office like Bush did. He may make a few bad decisions too.

Please let's not have this thread sink into Dem-GOP free-for-all! Here's hoping he'll be seen on the, well, should be Tour BLUE cloth now and then. Couldn't hurt the game any.

Just saying, you go back to the Declaration of Independence and its "all men created equal" and now, here we are, some proof of that, that's all. Other 43 guys looked a lot like me, only most of em were taller.

There are even pictures of Mark Twain playing on it, and according to the biography written by his minion, the President was kept waiting while Mark tried to figure out a shot. For over four hours. He was apparently beyond a die hard player, and would spend days at his table trying to master certain shots, and challenged everyone he encountered near a table. It doesn't seem like was that good according to the book, but he had passion for the game and a sever temper when he messed up a shot.
I have the original book somewhere, that made him my official favorite old timey author, and early pool player!

Very interesting! Must have been quite a shot. I have read before that Twain was quite the billiard enthusiast. If I'm not mistaken, it was he who said that he thought Billiards was a tremendous form of exercise that worked nearly all of the muscles and involved a good deal of walking.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I must confess that I have been an utter failure when it comes to convincing my wife that, even though I return from the pool hall smelling like a brewery/smokeshop, the time I spent there was actually in pursuit of better health. :D

Good rolls,

You are absolutely correct! There is no worry about the thread sinking to a Dem-GOP free for all.

Sadly its more likely to sink to an American - Anti-American free for all.

All men are definitely created equal. From there, let em go work for their pool playing money. (keepin it related) :)

Dick I don't think macguy had any ill intent with that post and merely meant that American finally proved that all men are created and treated equally in this country. Those Veterans, including myself, fought so people have the right to speak their minds without fear of being shot by the way.

Macguy cheers to you for mentioning it to President-Elect Obama and being a long time supporter of a great cause.

Man, if I knew a free Sugartree cue was part of the deal I would have gone in to politics!!

Does the offer still stand if I get elected dog catcher or something? lol

Please! I realize this is not the forum for such discussions, but bailing out Wall Street, and now having the Big 3 auto makers requesting help after years of greed and lack of vision - now that is socialism!!!

I agree, it shouldn't become a political thread. He is our new president no matter what anybody says. Hopefully he proves himself worthy. He sure has my prayers. It doesn't matter who got office, we can't change it now. His job is the same no matter his party. He'll only be as good or as bad as congress & senate will allow, anyhow. He just got elected as the number one sh!t & blame catcher in the world.

I'll offer a cue to the pres, but a dog catcher may be stretching it :) If the dog catcher had some qualities worth bribing, I might take interest.

I can remember.

If I remember correctly this thread was a call to email Obama about promoting our passion, billiards. Has anybody but me done this. I hope so. Even though there is a pool table already in the WH, maybe a note telling him he looks good on the pool table and a little bit of stroking his ego will help our sport. JMO Sometimes things just get off topic. :(

You deleted your post long after it had already been quoted and then want to infer that anyone that doesn't agree with your choice of candidate are bigots? I participate in several different forums and this one happens to have the most tolerant base in regards to accepting others views and opinions. I don't ever recall anyone on AZ ever making bigotted remarks, ever. You're the only one that brought bigotry into the conversation... Why would you want to write a derogatory blank check on other posters here who may have an opposing but tolerant view of the President-Elect?
