OK to leave balls in the pockets?

I have Aramith Premier balls, and was wondering: does it hurt anything to leave them in the pockets, instead of putting them back on a rack after every session? I know you can't leave them on the felt, but how about in the pockets?

Me, I would leave them in there because like the Rubiks cube, I might never see them that way again.

Why can't u leave them on the felt? I didn't know that and now I'm curious why?

I know you can't leave them on the felt,

I know that too!!

Damn near didn't get that fire put out.

( sorry for the extreme sarcasm ) but what the hell is going on with AZB?

FWIW,,they will cluster into pineapple grenades in the pocket...you have been warned

You can leave them in the pockets, ball return or even on the cloth. You can put the balls in your sock drawer or even in a bowl of spaghetti if you want. None of this will hurt the balls but if you put them in a bowl of spaghetti, your wife will wonder...

This sounded like a billiard style Dr. Suess book. Made me laugh, probably only funny to me though.

Carry on.

It depends on the type of pockets that you have. If they're leather, there is less chance of damage to the balls although they will tend to get some dimples where they sit against each other. In plastic pockets, the balls on the bottom will get flat spots. And, you're right, leaving them on the table itself will cause microscopic dimples in the slate...unless you also have a cat. Then, the shed hair from the cat will cause the chalk residue to fall through the cloth and form a dusty residue on the slate itself.

I'm kidding. Seriously.

I always take out my balls when I'm done shooting... (sometimes while I'm shooting too) :)

Jeez.... ask a simple question... ]-:

The popular wisdom is that you shouldn't leave balls on the felt for extended periods because their weight can make little dents in the felt surface. That makes sense; I'm sure that can happen. Plus, in general, you want to take care of your felt, which includes not leaving stuff lying around on it.

My table's pockets are the perforated leather type. I don't see how these top quality hard balls would be hurt by being left in the pockets, unless maybe they're left in there for a long period of time, like several months or something. I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem like they would get flat spots that quickly.

I would say, dont leave the balls on the table for more than 23 years without moving. If you play one every 22 years, you should be good leaving on the cloth.

Personally I don't think it matters either way. I haven't heard of the felt becoming damaged by leaving the balls sitting in one place for extended period of time either but there is a first time for everything. I would say leave them in the pocket and they will be just fine. Phenolic is one of if not the hardest plastic on earth.

"That's-a-one crunchy meat-a-ball!!" :p

None of my balls have a flat spot, but one is definitely smaller than the other.

On a more serious note, I have had my table for about 5 years now (leather drop-pockets), and I always leave the balls in the pockets when I'm done shooting with zero discernible damage thus far.

i personally have never heard of a ball getting damaged from sitting in a pocket too long. but, i do know that leaving them in leather pockets for long periods can stretch the pocket a bit. nothing too serious.

I do know that leaving them in the pockets and not using them will be detrimental to your game!
