Why can't u leave them on the felt? I didn't know that and now I'm curious why?
I know you can't leave them on the felt,
You can leave them in the pockets, ball return or even on the cloth. You can put the balls in your sock drawer or even in a bowl of spaghetti if you want. None of this will hurt the balls but if you put them in a bowl of spaghetti, your wife will wonder...

This sounded like a billiard style Dr. Suess book. Made me laugh, probably only funny to me though.
Carry on.
Jeez.... ask a simple question... ]-:
The popular wisdom is that you shouldn't leave balls on the felt for extended periods because their weight can make little dents in the felt surface. That makes sense; I'm sure that can happen. Plus, in general, you want to take care of your felt, which includes not leaving stuff lying around on it.
My table's pockets are the perforated leather type. I don't see how these top quality hard balls would be hurt by being left in the pockets, unless maybe they're left in there for a long period of time, like several months or something. I may be wrong, but it doesn't seem like they would get flat spots that quickly.
