Someone want to handicap the chances of that?
But then they could do a replay....

Someone want to handicap the chances of that?
Someone want to handicap the chances of that?
Shorething Billiards in Myrtle Beach held a 1000$
added handicap tournament this weekend .
They put my 73 year old half blind father in law in the
tournament as a 3. Well he was in the losers bracket after a day and nights play but was still in as of this morning. He shows up and the girl Megan that runs the tournament informs him that she was moving him up to a 5 and he has to replay his last match from last night against the guy she dates Gatlin. Gatlin was OUT of the tournament. Megan told the old man he could replay the match or forfeit. Fugin really? Well the old man lost to no surprise.
He was cheated. Never heard of someone out of a tournament getting put back in like this. How about the other people he played. The old man was already in the losers bracket.
Feel free to post this on Facebook if you choose
Any thoughts on this
What's amazing to me is that it's been stated many times that in THE PLAYERS MEETING a match could be replayed, yet everybody seems to have missed that or they're ignoring it based on THEIR OWN OPIONION it shouldn't happen WTF???
And you're surprised someone didn't pay attention in a players meeting... Was playing at Derby and played a safety on a guy... he starts putting a jump cue together. Told him "Hey, you can't use a jump cue. You have to jump with your player". He basically accused me of sharking and then went and got one of the tournament guys who told him "Didn't you go to the players meeting? Pro Express Rules... NO JUMP CUES." Turned out, this guy didn't even go to the players meeting. He read the rules online somewhere.
I dragged that out a lot, didn't I! Point was, many don't attend the players meetings and a lot of the ones that do, don't listen, they just use it as a place to talk, take naps, whatever...
Shady business in the game of pool? Biased TD's, players hiding their speed? Who would have thunk it. So glad I read this thread, my eyes are now open.
OMG where to start! I can't believe some of your guys comments. Jumping on Peteys side before you hear the truth, lmfao! So you all know, Petey wasn't even there for one night of the tournament, I was. He didn't even come up there to meet a fellow azer Saturday or Sunday, I did. I love how you throw in old man every sentence to keep the piddy party on your side. I'm sorry your father in law(that's right family member) lost his free ride but he was busted. A 3 Petey??? For real Petey??? To give you azer's a idea of this 3, I am a 8 in 9ball APA and a 7 in 8 ball, I'm also a 8 out of 10 in BCA. When I play Goochy(old man) He's a ball below me and still beats me half the times we played. Gooch is a great player and better than a f"ing 3. Megan gave him a chance to be honest and she made him a 3 based on the fact he told her he hasn't played on any leagues but, after he was turned in by 4 players non local, he was on the radar, in fact, Gooch played BCA and was last ranked a 8 out of 10, BUSTED. Petey, can I please state Goochys real name so a neutral party can look up his BCA handicap??? ANOTHER LIE is Megan and Gatlin have absolutely nothing to do with each other and she is in love with a young fellow named Brooks up there. So, we are on 2 lies Petey. 3rd lie, The first match between Goochy (a 3) and Gatlin (a 9) and not dating Megan) went 7-3, for Goochy (not hill-hill as stated by Petey)and he was reported. That's when someone said he was a 7 or 8 in BCA and he was looked up on BCA's site and sho nuff, he was a 8 out of 10 and ranked 7th in the North myrtle beach area. Any neutral party willing to look this up please PM me and I'll submit his name if Petey won't. At the time they looked this up, Goochy had left so in the morning, they gave him the option to replay or forfeit, that's what they did at Grady Mathews Tournaments and that's what Megan thought was fair for the 2 players involved instead of both of them being out. The 2nd match( Replay) was won 7-5 by Gatlin (a9)(And still not sleeping with Megan) against Goochy (a 5 now). Sorry your family member and race horse got busted but you know that man isn't a 3. I would've been a 6 in this tournament and i'd bet the farm he would have beaten me hill-hill. As far as Megans character, she has run plenty of tournaments at Brass taps in Raleigh NC and works very hard to keep pool on the map. She is such an awesome person that I'm going to get suspended on here for saying, GO F yourself for jumping her ass because you believed someone on here that wasn't even f'ing there and posted this false and fake chit! You all owe her an apology because after every player congratulated her on a huge and great tournament, she was soooo proud of herself and then she reads this total POS thread and it destroyed her. Petey you are a POS for starting this thread off of what your buddys told you. 3 players were bumped up this weekend, this was her first tournament at STB with alot of new players (70 total) and all she had to go off of was there word. Some got busted and some fell through the cracks, it happens. The winner of $1250 was ranked a 6 and was 78 years old, the runner up was also a 6 and no one said nothing about there ranking. Shannon and Marge will vouch for Megan's character and how awesome and hard working she is. Petey, your rep on here should be destroyed for posting this crap, sore losers! Keep posting more of this chit because Brent(Owner of STB) isn't taking this lightly. You guys ***** and moan about every little thing we do up there and you still come back??? WTF? You guys can still believe whatever you want to, that's your choice and right but, this is total BS! I'll prove whatever I can too you. Anyone know Shannon, Marge or someone at BCA that wants to privately talk to them about these false accusations, please do so to help out. I honestly believe Goochy is a strong 4 weak 5 in this tournament but, after he was busted, Megan had no choice but to bump him all the way, how was she to know how he really played after the way he shot? Long story short, player got busted, bumped up and did not like it. Goochy, I am in no way am talking bad about you if you read this and I've always liked you and respected your game. Megan and Jamie, Great job this weekend and I'm so sorry you had to read this crap! Petey said everything I say is gonna be a lie? I was there Fri, Sat and Sunday night, Petey wasn't there at all! Period. He's going of of total hearsay. Ron
But this isn't a players meeting
People are reading then commenting - without reading???
Hi, My name is Megan Royal, and I am the tournament director for the tournament that is being talked about in this post at Shore Thing Billiards.
I think that this is the prime example of typical pool player crying, and it is unfortunate that people that read this start off thinking it is truth as if it is coming from the horse's mouth and 100% honest.
The 73 year old man in question?!? He and his son-in-law represented his ability as total novice, during one of my weekly 9 ball tournaments. The exact date was February 1st, 2013. (I keep excellent records of when all players start playing in my tournaments, and why I ranked them the skill level they are) The man and his son-in-law told me that he didn't really play competitively at all, and didn't give me any league handicap for him. Ask any new player that enters Shore Thing Billiards for my tournaments and they will tell you that the first question I ask is "do you play any leagues?"
So, accepting the word of a player that had played in several events that I have played in, and respect (GSBT) I handicapped this unassuming older gentleman at a 3. He didn't advance to the paid out spots of the weekly tournament he participated in, so when he and his son-in-law showed up for my added $1,000 tournament, I entered him as a skill level 3. He lost his first match-up to a player that was a skill level 11 (this format hosted skill levels 1 thru 12).
He lost his first match in this tourney and played in a previous weekly tourney and didn't cash, okay I'm with you so far
His second match was against another skill level 3. This opponent played in the mini-tournament the night before, and was a player that I knew their ACCURATE handicap from another in-house tournament format that I was familiar with and could equate to mine. He won this match, and it was not a close one.
So it wasn't close, two 3's can play a lopsided match right? Nothing out of the ordinary here.
His next round match-up forfeited. So after advancing, (not my boyfriend) Gatlin loses to him. Racing to 7 with 3 games on the wire and the 7 & 8 called, the player in question wins by a big margin (7-3 not 7-5 as reported above).
Okay, he won a total of 2 matches? This is the point of handicaps is it not? Any player properly handicapped should be able win a match right? The old man won and you feel he shouldn't have??? Why? It is handicapped which by definition means the lower handicapped player should have a chance to win. You can't make arbitrary judgements like that, you are setting a bad precedent by showing that you think players shouldn't be able to win at their current handicap and if they do they will get treated like this? Why should any low handicapped players want to play in your events if they have to be afraid to win??????
My first reaction was shock. I play in my format as a level 4, and I do not think I could beat Gatlin with that game,
If you honestly feel that way then one of you may be improperly handicapped, the whole point of handicaps is to give every player a chance to win.
so I questioned the skill level of the older gentleman. The owner of STB is a BCA league operator and knew that the man played BCA. After pulling up the last sessions stats, I found out that his BCA handicap out of 10 was an 8. He was ranked in the top 10 of his league.
The old mans 2nd match was agaisnt another player that was moved up do to her ability of play campared to her starting handicap and the old man beat her straight up 7-4. I'm not saying that the replay rule was right , I'm just posting the correct info on the scores and why he was moved.
However, the tournament directors' policies are what governs every tournament and mine include replaying matches at a different skill level when I believe the current one is unfair.
'nough saidAfter reading pages of this thread and skimming through the rest I am going to comment ONLY on the things that I know to be true.
Shannon & I run a GSBT $1,000 Added Guaranteed Amateur 9-ball tournament at Shore Thing Billiards in Myrtle Beach, SC every month and have for over a year now. Our tournament is not based on the same format as the one that was played this past weekend and does not have the same rules. With that being said, I don't even know what the rules were. What I do know is that running a handicapped event is very tough. You will never please everyone and no matter how hard you try you still can't. I do not know Gooch but everyone else mentioned in the thread has played in our events and I know very well.
What I didn't like that was said (and I am not sure who posted it) was that the pool room / owner was shady. I do have a problem with someone stating that because Brent Hudgins has done alot for pool. Not just for the GSBT, but for players - sending them to tournaments, supporting the sport by hosting tournaments, and offering a very nice establishment for everyone including road players to come get action. His staff (Ron, Megan, James, Mike, & Charmaine) are always very hospitable and have always shown us nothing but kindness. It is definitely the premier pool room in Myrtle Beach!!
Again, I wasn't there this past weekend and refuse to take sides in this.
I think Megan did a great job preparing for this tournament to pull 70 players for the event. You go girl!!
I also know that Petey, Mike, Mickey, and Guy all support our events at STB and have since we started and we are thankful for them.
In my opinion, I think that this senseless thread could have been avoided and makes room owners not want to deal with tournaments. I think it could have been handled in a different way but sometimes folks feel the need to come to the pool forum. To each their own.
There is a happy median somewhere and if you agree to disagree in this situation so be it. It's over and lets move on. Nothing can be changed now, so shake hands and hopefully we can all hug and have a shot the next time we are all at STB!!!
As the saying goes, we will all have a good time at STB - it's a SHORE thing!
See you all soon!!
Best Regards,
Marge
