One eye player?

Flomaton, AL was home of a guy called, Flomaton Red, and his more famous brother, Raiford "Tangle Eye" Warrick. I'm sure some of you guys remember how potent Tangle Eye's game was.

Danny DiLiberto basically is operating with vision in only one eye. While he doesn't play his former world class speed; he can STILL beat most posters here. He had a very respectable showing in the IPT, scaring a couple of the big guns.

My buddy got a stroke and loose his right eye sight. He is very frustated, since he could not aim properly. Just wondering if anybody knows one eye player? I hope similar story could encourage him to keep playing the game that he realy love.
Thank's

Your buddy shouldn't worry. One of my buddies from back home in Singapore has a glass eye and shoots a lot of pool. My buddy aims fine.

I'm legally blind in one eye - no focus point ever since an accident at 3 years old. You just don't need true depth perception for most things in life. You just learn depth by knowing the size of objects like pool balls. Now, if an alien ship shows up in the sky, I won't be able to tell if it's 3 feet away or 3 miles!

I played most sports fairly well and have never felt that it limited my play in pool at all.

"One Eye" Hank Hurst did not overdose he might have been drugged up but he took his life with a gun to his head in the Nevada desert.
I know this is side-tracking the thread, but I was very skeptical of Grady's insinuation that someone had died from od'ing on LSD. I know back in the day (early '70s) I took way too much (50 hits one time) and never came close to dying. Well, there was that one incident with all the orange ping pong balls raining down on me while trying to stay in my lane on the freeway...
To the OP, tell your friend he can do it!

one eyed henry is legand, in his prime he was one of the best one pocket players anywhere! still plays damn good! patch over one of his eyes but it never stopped him.

I corrected Grady's post earlier in this thread. One Eye Hank died of a self inflicted gunshot to the head.

Tell your buddy that he can certainly learn to play with one eye.
Chances are that he will have to re-learn a lifetime habits.
Did he lose his dominant eye? All obstacles can be overcome with heart and determination. Frustration and self pity are the enemy.

There's a player named "Patcheye" from Philly area who lost his eye in 1958 during a car accident. Read this interview on OnePocket.org about Patcheye: http://www.onepocket.org//PatchEyeInterview.htm

'Bout 25 years ago, Patcheye was in my area in D.C., and he never hesitated to match up. One-pocket was his specialty, but he could play a little of all games.

Patcheye is an American Road Player, one of the last of a dying breed, and though he flew under the radar, as did most road agents, he's definitely an American champion and belongs in the history books. Unfortunately, there ain't much out there in the pool archives about American Road Players, except by way of word of mouth.

JAM, thank you for the link. I know Patch as he used to spend some time at Mothers. That was a great read. He was the one who taught me to give your practice table away if others need it to gamble. He always played with that tired old wore out looking sneaky.:)

Patcheye has been around forever. I remember seeing him play Pete Glenn at Winks in Dayon when I was a teenager.

I never done over six hits at one time, got some windowpane in the early seventys and took the whole thing not knowing that it was six panes(six ways) in a window, drove down Interstate 77 before it was opened and pulled over in my Trans Am cause the pavement was coming in waves like the ocean and I was afraid the tires would burn off. The highway people woke me up the next day and said I made a wrong turn the road opened that afternoon. Just glad to be alive Leonard

I cant be 100% sure but i've been told that Shannon Murphy is blind or mostly blind in one eye and he just took 8th or 9th at this yeard DCC in the 9 ball division. He is a young player and has an amazing stroke. Maybe Jay or one of the other players know for sure whether its true or not.

I don't. Okay, true confessions time.

I was high on acid 30 years ago in L.A. driving down Hollywood Blvd. at night with one of my buddies. I was in my '67 Sting Ray with the 435 HP engine.

It felt like I was about 50 feet above the road looking down on my car and everything else. Then I got pulled over by a cop. He said I was driving very slowly. Wonder why? :)

The amazing thing is that I came right down to talk to him, very normal and all. He let me go! When I drove away, I went right back up to cloud nine. Please don't tell anyone about this. You are all sworn to secrecy.
