Ok, has anyone ever played if you make a ball on the break, you must re-rack and break again.

Someone told me this after I made a ball on break ?? Not a gambling match, but I kept the ball anyways and kept going.. But he's convinced this is a rule that many play with now ??? I told him I never heard or saw such a thing in my life, ever.


Anyone seen or heard of this ??

Yes I've seen this rule - but it isn't always a rule, well, in pool this has always been the case, there should be agreement about some stuff prior to playing a match, but if its a friendly match then who cares, you guys should agreed upon something and go along with it.

But to answer your question yes, some people play it so that if you pocket a ball to your pocket on the break you re-rack, but if you pocket a ball but also scratched with the cueball, then he has a foul and no one should re-rack.

As a matter of fact, just now the accu-stats "make it happen" was using this exact rule, and it happened I think once or twice where in one of the games JJ made a ball while breaking to his pocket, and the referee re-racked it for them.

An occasional tournament rule.

Good luck telling a gambling match opponent the ball he just made on the break dan't count.

Alex beat Jose Parica once 4-0 at one-hole....Jose got two shots.
Alex won the lag, made a ball on the break...ran eight...
Jose broke, Alex ran eight...
Alex broke, made a ball on the break, ran eight..
Jose broke, Alex ran eight.

Well, Jose got to chalk his cue twice
 
I've heard of it, but we don't do it.
As a matter-of-fact if one of us makes a ball on the break we party until the cow comes home.
That's what one of the guys calls his wife. She comes home from work, phones the pool hall, I beg your pardon, sports bar and grill, and he has to go home. :smile:
 
That's typically a rule when playing Rack your own. It's also goes both ways though. If you make a ball in your opponents pocket on the break its a rerack
 
Most one pocket tournaments now use the rerack rule if a ball is made on the break. This has also become very common in gambling too, but you should ask before the first game, haha.

A better way to play that I guess I must have invented because I haven't seen anyone else do it, is to make it count but you don't keep shooting.

Another way to play is to place the ball back in the jaws. This just seems WAY too powerful to me, almost as much as making it count.
 
I have also seen a recent match that was played that way.

Its a good rule when your playing rack your own, but I think if your opponent racks it should count.

Any pro tourney's using this rule ?? I've watched a lot of 1P matches, never seen it, but then again, don't see lot's of balls dropping on the break either ??

They used this rule at last weekend's Buffalo Billiards (pro) 1 Pocket Tournament. It will likely be used at the 1 pocket tourney at Big Dog's later this month, too.

Yes, the Make it Happen tournament, as I type. SVB vs. Efren playing with this rule.
 
The SBE was re-rack this year. One player made a ball and scratched and it was a re-rack with no point owed -- the ball on the break made the break null and void.

OK, was this the first year at SBE to use this rule, and we can assume this rule is a newer rule in the last few years ??

And why not just spot the ball up, why re-break ?

I'd let the breaker make the call, if the break is not great but you made a ball, your option to re-break, or to leave as is and spot the ball ? thoughts ??
 
I believe there is a more aggressive/dangerous break that bby hitting the second ball you can make a ball more often. However, you can sell out more frequently.

This is a rule that should be discussed before any money match. I actually like the rule.
 
i am a traditionalist and think you should keep the ball and keep shooting
that being said
i also think if you will not reward the breaker for making a ball
why penalize him for scratching
you should also re rack if he scratches on the break
also i really dont understand why you would rerack if you make a ball for your opponent
