One Pocket Challenge at DCC

I'm going to try and print an announcement about the DCC One Pocket Challenge.

Jay check your Paypal account. I just sent you a $100 for the challenge. Since I won $3.89 last night on Poker Stars it doesnt hurt too bad. LOL!!!!!!

Cliff had a 23 to open the day and Jack Macpherson than did a 28. Late last night John Schmidt put a 15 and out on me for a $100 Bonus and layed down a 45! He backed up his big talk with a great run John can definitely play the ghost. Other big guns to play today.

I'll do my best to keep you posted. I'm working on a borrowed computer now.

P.S. Didn't do much in the Banks, got to the fourth round. Ran a couple of threes and one four. Not good enough in this company. A few hours of practice is not quite the preparation one needs to play in the Derby City Banks. I know better, but am inherently lazy. I'm not in the One Pocket, just too busy with other things here.

Just like the Dodgers always say, "Wait until next year."

A special belated thanks to "jwpretd" who threw in $50 to the added money. We are over a $1,000 dollars in added money without azbilliards throwing in anything yet from the AZ room.

Thanks all for your support of this brand new event at DCC. The fans seem to really be enjoying it.
 
Wow ran 15!!!! Total 45!!! Thats incredible. Try it sometimes folks. Schmidt is incredible.

Jay, I've done this before but just stroke play, use all the pockets. Break 5 full racks and just run the balls, each stroke counts one, so if you broke a full rack of balls, made one and ran out clean you would make a 15, if tho while at the table you pocketed a ball and made others during the shot.. you could possibly have a 11 or 12 stroke count for one rack, add up the total of your five games, that is your total count, lowest count total wins the pot. It goes pretty fast on 7' and so do the quarters, entrants can try it as many times as you like, and the guy keeping the score should get paid for his services. Or you could also pay top two scores. Its allot of fun, and if you know your score is too high, you can pull up at any time and repay/re enter.
 
Hey Jay is pots and pans there this year, if so I bet he misses Strycnine. Thats what he calls Earl. Good shooting John--Leonard

The Challenge is catching on! Cliff and Gabe hung out and played all day. They wanted to beat John's 45.

The best score yesterday was Alex with a 40. He's in second with Hopkins third with a 38. Cliff has a 35 for fourth.

I still like John's 45 to win. Today is the final day.
 
Hey Jay...Is the guy with the really long stringy beard there with Bunny? Last year he brought Bunny to the OP Hall of Fame dinner (late), and then had to take him out when Rogoff tried to hog the mike! LOL He spent a lot of time in the AzB room, and claimed Bunny was his uncle...:rolleyes: :D

Jay - great challenge & nice success on your event at the DCC. Sorry I didn't introduce myself over the weekend but you seemed preoccupied whenever I spied you.

Anyways, Louie would do this same challenge & the over/under was 35. 45 is a heck of a score.

Another one pocket challenge that I learned is to rack the balls in the pocket, with the head ball right in the jaws. Start shooting at the rack & everytime you shoot and don't pocket a ball, one comes out and goes on the spot. See how few amount of shots it takes before you make all 15 balls in the corner pocket. Harder than it sounds.
 
IT'S OVER! Gabe put up a simply amazing 60 on the final night. He broke perfect five times and made five excellent runs. He just put it all together one time. I watched the whole thing and he played great. Of course Gabe played the Challenge several times, putting about $200 into the kitty.

Mika was second with a 47, Alex got a 46 and Alex and John shared fourth with 45's. There were eight scores in the 40's and many in the 30's. I got a healthy respect for the skill of these present day players, watching them all play the Challenge for three days. It really caught on the final day with a whole slew of champions lining up, trying to beat John's 45 and they did. But barely, until Gabe just lit it up.

At one time, we had Cliff, Mika, Alex, Corey, Gabe, Allen Hopkins and Parica all lined up waiting for a turn. They were all ribbing each other and having a great time. It was a blast and the onlookers really enjoyed the whole show. Greg Sullivan sat in with us for a couple of hours and he was having fun too. He beat me out of 100, when I told him that I thought John's 45 would stand up. Greg has my number.

No question, the One Pocket Challenge will be back next year. A big thank you to Steve Lomako who helped me run it. Steve, you're great! And thanks to all those who supported us the first year.

1. Gabe Owen $1,000 plus $500 Bonus for running over 50 (Greg Sullivan award).
2. Mika Immonen 750
3. Alex P. 500
4. Tie between Alex and John Schmidt $125 each.

Thanks Jay for doing this. We owe you a lot for all the work you did. It was highly entertaining. My $100 donation to the prize was highly worth it. Watching these champions just blew my mind as to the possibilities they can do on the table. I never thought 60 would be possible.
