One pocket. What’s the play?

I'd hit the right side of the one with medium speed and spread the balls more toward my side.

Did I get it right? ;)
I don't think so.

With the presented start point, you can do damn near anything, because the 11 is the only ball he can really make. Going into the one opens up a few more balls on his side and drastically worsens your subsequent position.

Presuming you open balls on your side and stick your guy in a manner that prevents him from banking a ball to his hole, there are going to be a few balls near the cb and it is likely there will be an easy shot for him to leave you next to your pocket next shot.

After you bunt him back on his side of the table, he probably will send you up table and bank a ball toward his pocket...plus you opened the stack in a favorable manner for him a couple shots ago, you will recall.

Hey I’m in an intense game of one pocket with myself right now. I’m down (-1)-0. Already took the scratch once. So if it was you. You’re shooting to the right side pocket(right side in picture) now. What’s your shot?

KISS! Shoot straight at the ten ball with a stop shot, leaving the cue ball frozen to or stuck behind the one ball. The ten goes to the left and the nine goes toward the other two balls on your side. Sometimes it's best to shoot a totally defensive shot and give your opponent a chance to make a mistake. Execute the simple shot I described above and your opponent will be in a difficult position himself. No need here to be taking swings at flyers. It's not necessary or recommended!

Always the voice of reason. That is a smart play.

I like the 5 ball a little more than the 10, just a little based on this pic. However that’s subject to change over the table.

The take away is-no fliers, play tight and nit sell the farm. There’s lots of time in this rack to pick a better spot to “go” in. Not this inning.

For the record Jay plays 1P better than me, by a couple balls I’d guess.

Best

I’ve honestly been looking at this for the last half an hour. If I hit 5 to the rail I’m kind of screwed in a few shots and everything up top is blocked. I’m perplexed! 😐 🤔 (Trying to keep the cluster). The guy shooting to the left pocket hit a nice f’n open table safe. Too bad he doesn’t usually play so well.
Cut the 5-ball in.....live it up like TRex

Simple and effective. I started winning a lot more games when I stopped trying to win the game on every shot.

Yep, my initial thought was to bank it back towards the 6 so it doesn't block your other up table balls but a soft roll works better.

As far as not winning, my son recently started playing some 1P and I've been trying to instill in him, make the ball, but don't worry about making the ball. Meaning, don't hit is so hard it bounces out and you sell out, even if you don't make it, as long as it's sitting in your pocket it's just as good ;) Use those moments to move other balls, block stuff, etc.

No way I'm shooting the 11! Too many balls to leave open. Picture angle might be off, but I would probably push the 5 to the rail, bump the 13/3 with the cue ball [breaking them out and developing more soldiers] and leave the cue ball froze to the 1 and hopefully the 13.

The second thing I would do is get a new piece of chalk! lol

If not 3 rails I’m going 11 off the top rail and back to the stack hopefully nicking the 6 on way and leaving him right behind the 5.
