Original Willie Hoppe Cue For Sale

Original, reworked, Willie Hoppe cue for sale.
Cue was originally made between 1941 & 1945.
Cue was completely refinished recently by Proficient Billiards.
Unfortunately, the signature on the forearm was lost during the
refinish due to some knicks in the forearm.
The wrap is original and in excellent condition, IMO.
The bumper was already added as well.
Cue plays very well and has a nice solid hit.
The original sticker on the butt is in good condition.
The points and inlays are in great condition and
are very bright and vivid.
I am not sure if the shaft is original.
This is the shaft that came with the cue.
The shaft,as well, has been completely refinished with a new tip.
Everything is straight together and apart.
Balance point is 19 1/2 inches from the end of the butt.
Cue is 57 1/2 inches long and weighs 18.5 ozs.
I am asking $500.00 + shipping OBO.
Trades are welcome, but cash is preferred.
Paypal is preferred and I will split the fee, so add 2%.

Good looking reworked Hoppe.

A few questions:

Did the butt have the pin replaced when yoiu got it?

Did you add the bumper

How did you conclude the date was 41 - 45?
My understanding was that all pre 53 Hoppes had the ivory ring.

Good luck with the sale

BTW - the shaft isn't original<new style the insert> -
but virtually none are anymore.

I am sure that Mr.Hoppe on here can verify the the time of the cue was made. I have one in the works right now.

Dale, I think the cue has also been reworked a great deal. The lable on the cue says it is from the time period or the 1940's. However, the bottom of the cue, the bumper and butt cap are certainly replacements. I also agree that the cues pin and shaft are also all wrong for an Early Hoppe. The is still nice, but it certainly a hybred and is not really collectable.

the black handle wrap looks like it was cut from a cheap home shopping club leather jacket :)

Doc, these comments are not appropriate in a person's For Sale thread. While the others above are trying to assess the originality of the item being offered, you are expressing your personal opinion and are adding no value to the discussion.

Exactly, I don't know why he would feel the need to come on this thread and try to knock Ken's sale. Smooth black leather on a Hoppe is a classic look that will never die

BTW - What about the Ivory rings? Did ALL the early Hoppes have them?
I have a copy of a '53 Bruns catalog - the Hoppe pic def shows an ivory ring

The OP is right on with the date. The font on the label, esp the fancy capital B and Ws, indicate '41-'45. I don't recall ever seeing one from this period without an ivory ring above the black butt plate, and none of my 20 or so examples are without it either. I checked my '41 and '46 catalogs, and both have the Hoppe Pro pictured with the ivory ring. (Catalog prices were $9.85 and $10.75 in those years respectively, 2-3 times the price of a Titlist!)

It's possible that the ring was dropped (possibly due to multiple cracks) when the cue was refreshed and the bumper was added. The cue is probably 1.3" - 1.4" at that point, and a piece of ivory that diameter costs some coin to replace. A picture of the butt plate with and without bumper would help. If the black butt plate was replaced, then that becomes the most probable reason that it's missing, but even if the butt plate is original that's still my best guess.

Thanks for the insight on my cue.
This is how I received the cue, other that having it refinished.
As far as I can tell the wrap is original, or at least
it appears to be IMO.
I know little about the full history of the Hoppe cues and was unaware of the ivory ring being missing. I did do the research as to the date and was surprised to find the cue to be from that era. So, at least I knew I was correct when it came to the original date. I have since reworked the description of the cue to be more accurate.

Mr. Hoppe, also take a look at the Shaft Pilot, it certainly is also not from a Hoppe cue it's totally Modern.

I can only remember the old old days, I think I might have one of those ladies, sh*t can't remember though for sure ???? ( From that other guy ) at least he's got good taste :thumbup:

But I do remember the Hoppe's, they were great !!!

Ken, you have a great looking cue for a player, If I didn't have almost the exact same thing coming from Jerry-R, I'd jump on this.

Someone is going to get a really neat old cue.
