For Sure. Jose Parica was leader of the Filipino Invasion, long before Efren came to our shores. In Filipino circles, he is treated as the legend that he is, but for some reason, our BCA's voting process for their Hall of Fame has changed at least three times in that last 10 years that I can ascertain, so I'm not sure how he gets skipped over each and every time, except recently I was told that since he is over a certain age, he will now only be considered every few years -- because of his age -- by a BCA veterans committee. I don't get it.

I personally believe the BCA's motives were political in nature to put Bustie in before Jose, and I like Francsico. Make no mistake about it, he is probably my favorite Filipino player and is deserving, but to put him in before Jose is almost like putting Shane in before Danny DiLiberto, IMO.

Jose Parica is the only pool player I have allowed to stay at my home. He's easy-going, has no bad habits, and I am comfortable around him. His aura is good.

I will never forget the first time I met Jose. It was actually the first time I met Keith. They drove to Maryland together from the Derby City Classic in Louisville to attend the Capital City Classic that was hosted by the Wilson family.

I was standing outside of the hotel smoking a cigarette, and out walked Keith. I had never met him, but I knew who he was. My old friend Geese and Keith traveled together in California. I made small talk with Keith, letting him know about Geese moving to Florida, his father dying, et cetera.

Up walked Keith's road partner, and Keith introduces me to him. I had been out of the pool scene for a long while, working full-time in my career, so I was a little green as to who's who. I shook hands with the little man and said, "I'm glad to meet you. Do you play pool, too?" Jose snickered, nodded his head yes, and walked into the hotel. In fact, he proceeded to win the Capital City Classic one-pocket tournament the next day.

Jam thanks for the story. Not blowing smoke but a picture is worth a 1000 words. What a bond they must have for each other. To me this is the best picture ever been posted here. As you can tell they are two of my favorite players. And stories like this is what I think help make this form what it is. Again thank you for your precious time for posting this. Skip

The one thing for sure, if he is not whipping someones ass at pool he is sleeping...This guy can put down some hours sleeping...I have seen him wake up out of sleep go to a table and not miss for what seemed like hours..then go back to sleep. One of my favorite people to run into when playing pool for sure...

Gotta love Jose Parica

I saw him go for a rediculously difficult runout at a tournament, I believe in NYC, because it would have been such a great work of art he just seemed to not be able to pass up the chance to make the thing work. He had to make several difficult shots in a row and made all but the last, and the last one was close. He looked disappointed when he missed, but not upset or angry. He did a little subtle body movement as if to say "darn!" - not because the miss would keep him from winning but because the creative runout didn't happen. I really loved watching it Jose Parica, wherever you are. Thanks for the show.
A guy named George who plays at the Side Pocket, a Filipino who says he grew up playing with some of the best of them including Efren Reyes, says that it is more in their culture to smile if they get out of position instead of getting mad. I could see that little hint of a smile even in Jose's frown when he got out of line. I think maybe the smile part was visualizing what could have turned out so great.

Everybody speaks of Jose's extra-ordinary offensive powers, but he has something else too. Not sure what it is, but I was playing him once and came to the table for the first time and he made me shoot the 1 like this (still not sure how he did that, he wouldn't say):embarrassed2::

CueTable Help

And, to top it off, my buddy told me, "he does that to a lotta people".:bow-down::thud::shrug:...so he does it a lot.

You forgot to add that Parica is a giant, he looks about 3 feet taller than Keith!

Is that a trick photograph? haha.

Great picture, two of the greatest pool players ever,of all time!

Keith looks HEALTHY in that pic and I am glad for that. I saw him quite a few years ago and he didn't look near that good.

He is one of my favorite characters:)

If I start talking about the best pool players I've ever seen, Jose is near the top of the list. Orcullo is like a clone of Jose, with similar skills and similar ball control. And they're both money playing giants! Jose ruled the America's for two decades, taking on all comers and never being beaten. Try that on for size.

Ask him what happened on his first trip to America, pre Efren days. It was at the U.S. Open Straight Pool in New York and Mizerak ruled. After the tourney he offered Jose 50 going to 150. Didn't work out too well for the mighty Miz!

I met Jose a couple years ago at Hollywood Billiards here in Los Angeles.

He was one of the nicest guys I have met in a pool hall.

When I mentioned that I was heading to PI soon, he gave me his cell told me to make sure I call him and he would hook me up.

Great guy and one of the greatest players of all time.
