Paypal help needed

Did the guy who said his name was Ray Andrew in this thread ever say why he was doing this? Apparently its not a scam and dude has beef with something you sold for $500. You just better hope it wasnt a bet or something like that. You'll probably win Jay but if not...damnnnn

Mikey.....I know it is early but I think that guy was trying to pull a funny.

He was just screwing around. Funny huh! :(

Well I have no sense of humor. I'm filing a dispute against K-Town Dizzzzzzzzzzle just to be an asshole.

Thank God I save all my records and e-mails. I sold this guy (Ryan Andrew then, Ray Andrew now) an old Volvo for $2,000 on eBay. He sent me a $500 deposit on Paypal, then flew to Los Angeles with his daughter a few days later. I picked him up at the airport and brought him to my house. He paid me the $1,500 balance in cash. I gave him the title and the car and he drove it home to Moab, Utah. He called me then to thank me. He uses the ID "seanandtyler" on eBay.

Good luck trying to talk to someone on Paypal or eBay. Virtually impossible! I did send e-mails to both sites. We'll see what happens.

This guy was a very big man who I didn't know. I guess I'm lucky I wasn't robbed and killed. I let them into my house and I was alone. From now on anyone who enters my home and I don't know, I will have a piece in my back pocket, cocked and loaded! My trust in my fellow man just took a big hit here.

This guy is obviously a scammer, but the fact that Paypal will entertain a fraud like this and withhold the money from my account concerns me. Maybe we have to go back to accepting bank checks or money orders only. And verifying them! Or cash!

You go out of your way to pick him up..... Bring him to your house and this is how he handles things.... You can't do anything nice anymore... It really is sad.....

I hope everything gets straightened out with the dispute! What BS!

Paul

There are a few things in your description that raise a red flag. First, unless you have very few transactions, there is no way to view a transaction that long ago. The limit is 3 months I believe, so something is not right. I had to call and speak with their customer service to go back that far, but I did get it done.

You can't file a dispute after 45 days, period. Log on to your account and pick a transaction after 45 days and try to initiate a dispute, ain't happening.

You should be a Paypal advantage member with so many sales of your book. There is a hot-line set up that takes you straight to an experienced rep from Paypal that will quickly and efficiently handle this debacle. PM me if you need that number.

I held on the phone for eBay for about 30 minutes. Thank God for speakerphone. Finally a real human being answered. His name was Ryan, just like the scammer. That scared me as well! I explained the entire situation to him and he assured me that they would get it resolved within ten days.

I asked him how somebody could pull a stunt like this after 18 months, and was there a statue of limitations on making a claim. He said there was and he wasn't sure why this was being handled this way. He told me they are only the middle men in resolving such disputes and they need to hear from both parties.

I asked him to flag this guy's account, because if he's doing this to me, he's more than likely doing it to others as well. If I didn't have my old records and couldn't find the transaction I might be screwed.

As for Ryan or Ray Andrews or whatever his name is. He lives in Moab, Utah if you're ever out that way. Tell him Jay Helfert sends his regards. He better hope that we don't cross paths again. He won't be so bold if he's looking down the barrel of a .38. I don't much care for thieves. I'm madder than a hornet right now.

I found the transaction thru my old e-mails and via Paypal, not thru eBay. Sorry but this is proof positive that you CAN file a dispute after 45 days. He's done it and the money is currently being withheld from my account. There is no disputing that.

paypal

Not too long ago, I was thinking of making a bet in the Action Room; I had never used Paypal and started a thread asking about it.......Most people expressed positive things about the company, with some helpful suggestions on how to start an account with them...(I haven't yet) ...This story certainly does not help my trust or confidence in Paypal.....I hope it works out soon for you, Jay......keep us posted......

I've been going round and round with eBay and Paypal for nearly an hour and a half. I have a headache and need a couple of aspirin and some breakfast. Thanks to all of you for your insights and assistance!

if you still have the vin # of the car, maybe your local police dept( or the fbi) would get involved, since the transaction occurred there. they may be able to track down the car's ownership following the sale. it's worth a phone call to discuss your options.

In the future don't leave a balance in your PP account.
Hope you get this thing sorted out.

That's exactly what I do. I keep $20 - $30 in a checking account just for Paypal. If I buy something I just transfer the exact amount over and when I sell something, I transfer money out the minute it is in my account.

If I get screwed, it's for $25 at most...........

Thanks Larry. I did submit the required paperwork to the DMV in California that indicated the new owner of the car, including their name and address. It's all on record. No question that this transaction was completed. I'm wondering if he registered the car in Utah after he got it back there. I'm betting he did, otherwise he would have a problem driving it there.

P.S. I'm coming after you Ray Andrew or whatever your name is now! After this Paypal dispute is resolved, next stop Moab, Utah police department. Gonna get you baby. You F'd with the wrong guy!

Sorry Jay, this sucks man....

If it is the guy, economy is tough.....I see too many examples where people are simply justifying stealing to make ends meet.....it's really sad.....and I also was under the impression paypal disputes had to be made in 45 days....

Is it possible that someone somehow stole his transaction history/account info and is simply scamming? Do you still have a contact phone for the guy? Is there any way his cell phone or contact # is in your phone bill history????

Good luck...

Remind me never to air cannon you! Of course, I normally bet $1/game or $5/set, so it might cost you more for the ammo given the current price of brass :)

Get em, Jay.

I despise thieves. Prosecute as much as you can and kick em in the taint. That is the only thing they understand.

Eric >thieves suck

If the money was taken out of your bank account and placed on hold, you can contact your bank and get your money back the same day. That's what I had to do when my Paypal account was hacked. Paypal will jerk you around, the bank doesn't play those games.

Sorry to hear this Jay. This crap always pops up at Christmas. It doesn't matter if there is $ in the PayPal account or not. PayPal will zap the account, run it negative and start collection proceedures. However, I think this will only be an inconvenience for you. The time is way too long for a disputed transaction. PayPal will correct this if history holds true. I've had similar situations in the past and PayPal fixed them. Good Luck, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Pop a top and chill...
