PAYPAL.....you really do suck

paypal

My account was suspended because i sent a cue to canada, posted as buyer asked, and then claimed he didn't get his cue. i've sold probably 200 or more on ebay and this was the only one i have ever had a problem with. Paypal sided with the buyer.and said i owed them 320.00 bye.

Paypal has SUCKED since being taken over by E Bay. I had an issue with a seller and they basically did nothing but complicate the process which dragged on for two months. I closed my account and aill NEVER open another with them. Since then I have been using US Postal money orders which BTW have been redesigned making counterfeiting more difficult. I know this may not be an option for Si but it works for me as I will not do business outside of America for my pool supplies.
Good Luck Si hope you can find a viable option!!
Dan

So my account was frozen on the 9th December. I carried out the steps to resolve the issue 2 days after. All the cues and cases I had sold had reached the various destinations around the globe by the 18th December (with online proof of delivery with tracking numbers). Alas.....my account is still frozen as of today the 28th December.

I have just given some poor girl at a paypal call centre a real earful. Whilst I appreciate its not her fault, if I can't talk to the fat cats who are earning interest out of my $20,000 by sitting on it for 3 weeks, then they have to expect a level of expressed discontent. Apparently they will lift the restriction within 24 hours. Watch this space.

Paypal....one step down from the Nazi party.

Hi Dave

I get a mixture of payment methods from around the world. Bank (Swift) Transfer, personal cheque, Western Union, money order and Paypal.

I suppose its all about being flexible for the buyer. When a buyer asks if I take paypal, I always say yes. From now on its going to be yes but I would prefer a different method cause paypal sucks ass.

I shouldn't have to go through this crap every 3-4 months. I have had a paypal account since the dawn of time, 99% of my business with paypal is cue related. Nothing has changed so why don't these jerks leave me alone to pay my exorbitant paypal fees and take the pittance of whats left and buy more cues? Man.......I am feeling it today. I feel sorry for my staff

Si
Being "flexible" for the buyer doesn't always equate to a good business practice (spelled risk).
You might consider eliminating Paypal and offering eCheck and/or Google Checkout (GCO).
We quit taking Paypal in 11/07 and switched over to Google Checkout for several reasons -
one of which is their payment guarantee.

Briefly -
For all eligible transactions, we'll completely reimburse you for any chargebacks resulting from claims
of unauthorized purchases and non-receipt of goods.

There are some simple common sense criteria for their payment guarantee that you can check if you look into GCO.
As an Adwords advertiser we don't pay any GCO fees but I'd guess they are the same or less than Paypal.

Buyer signup for GCO is similar to Paypal but there's no "paypal-type confirmation" process.
The account is setup when the sale is completed. If the sale doesn't qualify for the GCO payment
guarantee you can simply void it and request a different form of payment from the buyer.

Most of our sales are Visa/MC but we offer GCO in addition to personal checks, WU, Wires, etc.
PM me if you have specific questions about GCO.

Bank Check

Hi Simon,
1st. Sorry to hear your trouble.
For that large amount,
could he have gotten a Check from his Bank an
send it Fex Ex or USP overnight?
It would be less than the Paypal charge. would it?
Didn't Paypal make a killing off large that amount?
3% or more on the service charge?
Just wondering..

Most of it was echeck Alton, so no charge other than $5. Pain is you wait 7-10 days for it to clear but still better than 3%. Most of other times I ask buyers to add the 3% if they want to use paypal.

Dartman....I will look into GCO.

Hi Si,

I just got my issue resolved with them recently as well. Once I got proof, I just called them up directly and they were able to clear it over the phone. I email them a PDF of receipts and documents they requested and the support person reviewed them while I was on the phone and clear amount (small compared to your) and account.

Happy New Year,
Duc.

On another note about sending money. I have some very close friends that grew up in Burma now known as Myanmar. They fought for the guerrilla army and sadly lost and are under a death sentence if they return. They still have family in Myanmar and fairly regularly send money home to help their families. There is NO fee for this transaction and I have never been told how it actually works but through the Burmese community the funds are somehow sent into Myanmar and incredibly gets to their families. I have learned just how easy it is to thwart a system when a group works together. This seemingly simple system of theirs has always fascinated me...

My sentiments exactly.
DO NOT give them access to your money & every one remember:
NO PAYPAL !!

For the 3rd time this year, my paypal account has been suspended.

This is all because large amounts of money have just gone in there and the poxy trigger for the investigation is set at $5000. Well, like the other two times....I have sold a few high end cues. Thats what paypal is for.....so people can pay you. Something which I have pointed out to them, time after time but still, my account gets frozen pending an investigation.

I am utterly sick to death of paypal. Its Christmas, I need my account money NOW. Its not unusual activity, thousands of dollars go in and out of my account all the time.

Paypal......shove it up your ass and get a grip on reality. I am not laundering money, I am trying to buy and sell high end cues (as I have explained and demonstrated a million times before) and you are making my life a living hell.

Rant over

Freeze ??

I know that some people open a bank account that is only used to receive funds from Paypal transfers. That way, if/when your account is frozen do to a PP investigation, it doesn't freeze your main checking account. When money is received via PP to your designated bank account, you immediately transfer it out of there and into your main bank account. It's not a scam or anything, it just keeps PP from locking up all of your money while they flip a coin to determine the outcome of their investigation.

PP is definitely not perfect. As a general rule when sending money, always use a credit card through paypal, and file a claim as soon as you think something is wrong with your transaction. I learned the hard way...
Mr H
Paypal cannot freeze your bank account for any reason the only money the have control over is money they hold in a paypal account.
Believe me I have been down a long road with paypal.
Remember: NO PAYPAL !!

Right....just received an email from Nazi Party saying they will not lift the restriction until I provide details of a further NINE earlier transactions. Shipping info including tracking numbers. NINE NEW TRANSACTIONS that they haven't asked information about before. NINE NEW TRANSACTIONS that they didn't request information on when they first suspended the account on the 9th.

I swear to all thats good I will stop collecting cues, sell them all and raise enough cash to bring the NAZI PARTY to their knees.

PAYPAL......please kindly kiss my lightly tanned ass.

....and you must justify any future purchases through their procurement office.

Their starting to sound like a very nosy spouse LOL

Good Luck Si

Right......been on the phone once more to some poor lady. I vented even more (then apologised). To her credit, she agreed with how poorly I had been treated. She also went out of her way to fix the issue and....hey presto....account suspension lifted. Without having to do anymore bullshit verification.

Now, has Simon learned his lesson? We shall see.

Thank you all for reading. I think I have a stomach ulcer.

I agree, Paypal sucks

Why don't we create a commom method of payment for AZers alone? There are a lot of people here that can be trusted and if we all contribute maybe we can get something going that will benefit us all. No more charges, no more stupid exchage rates (for us canadians) and so on. Just my 0.02$

I haven't used them in a long time. What's the max amount these days?
thanks

I've never had a problem using USPS money orders. USPS.com describes the amount limits and requirements as follows:

"Postal Money Orders are a safe, convenient, and economical alternative to sending cash through the mail. They can be purchased from any Post Office locations in the United States as well as from any rural route carrier, available up to $1,000 each. A current government-issued or state-issued picture identification is required for money order purchases of $3,000 or more in a single day. Other features include:

Domestic Money Orders

Purchase with cash, debit card, or traveler's check
Valid for an unlimited period
Can be cashed at any Post Office or can be deposited or negotiated at your financial institution
Replace damaged, lost, or stolen money orders

Fees:

$0.01 to $500.00 .......................$1.05
$500.01 to $1,000.00 ................$1.50
Postal Military Money Orders?..$0.30 (issued by military facilities)"

Glad to hear they finally lifted the suspension. What I thought was strange when they did that to you after our deal, they froze your account, but never checked with me to make sure everything was ok on my end. Froze your stuff for NO reason, but never tried to verify things from the other end. Some really stupid people running things at Paypal. :frown:

If you're going to continue to use Paypal, open another bank account. Use that other account for sending & collecting money. Add or remove money from/to your main account to keep the balance low in the account tied to Paypal. That'll keep them from freezing your main account & holding up all your money.
