Philippine Adventure a.k.a Pool Heaven!

First, thank you everyone who is helping me get to Taiwan! When the TV matches from the San Diego Classic air there will be about a three minute segment thanking everyone...and I must say, those were some of the most awesome TV matches ever!! Be sure to tune in.

Second, in addition to the Amway Cup I was also just invited to the Philippine Open and the Womens World 10-ball. If you are interested in helping or have words of advice for traveling to the Philippines I would love to hear from you! I'm really excited for the whole experience! I believe the other player from the US that will be going to the Amway Cup and The Womens 10-ball is Monica Webb.

I will be sure to give updates on the Amway ie. internet and bracket info. Hopefully there will be some live streaming!

Ed showed me around Manila the first time I went there. He is definitely a knowledgable and trustworthy resource for you in the Philippines.

Its good to have a local who can help you.

I'll be there as well Sarah. You don't have anything to worry about. They LOVE pool and pool players in the Philippines. Just keep your head down and keep making balls and you'll be all right! ;)

Well for the worst case senario watch the Nat. Geo. channel this Wed night at 10pm for the excellent series "Locked Up Abroad". This is a new episode titled "Kidnapped in the Philippines". :yikes:

You'll have a great time there. I've heard many great things about playing pool in the Philippines. They are crazy in love with the sport. You'll definitely be welcome there. Playing some of the locals there should also help your game.

I was warned on my first trip to the PI, DO NOT GO TO THE SOUTH! That is the Southernmost island where the rebels are holding out against government forces. Davao is the main city there. It is a long way from Manila and the Northern islands. There are literally hundreds of islands in the Philippine chain. Only in the Southernmost islands is their imminent danger.

Yes, you will see armed guards all over, even in Manila. Security is tighter over there than it is here. Probably a good thing. I do feel safer walking around in Manila than I do walking around in Los Angeles or any USA city. My last poolroom was in Inglewood ("the hood") at Hollywood Park Casino/Racetrack. I was on my guard every day leaving there, walking to my car and driving home. In general people are far friendlier anywhere you go in the PI. And you can communicate in English, a big plus.

It's been said here many many times before that Philippines is a great place to improve your game. And the competition is tough. Play with the local ladies or even the 3rd tier guys for a small amount.
Philippines is the Harvard University of Pool. Pay your dues, learn the game and you will go home a better player.

Stay out of buying "balot" lol...you'll have fun in the Philippines...if you have more time to stay ...don't forget to visit "Cebu and go to Boracay" im sure you will enjoy there....It was nice meeting you at Shooters here in Toronto...goodluck tomorrow at 404 tournament if you are playing ...and goodluck to the Amway cup and the 10 ball championship :)
