I thought of that before I posted. But I feel Philippine president is a lot more Waco. Johnnyt
It's becoming a bad situation for the over 200,000 Americans living in the Philippines and the four million plus Filipinos living here. They are all uncomfortable with their new President's stance on the USA. Even frequent visitors like me are thinking twice about going there.
The good news is that the Philippine people for the most part remain very friendly to America and it's people. We have long had a very good relationship. They are beginning to be disenchanted with their new leader. Whether he will be successfully ousted remains to be seen. I only see problems ahead for the Philippines. He could set them back about twenty years, just when economic progress had begun to happen there. Foreign entities (not just the USA) are thinking twice about investing over there.

This gets into politics and I try to avoid discussing politics as much as possible but...
My wife is Filipina and her family tells her Dutarte has a lot of support because he is cracking down on drug dealers who have been a big problem. Before the crackdown her family told her there were Muslims in their neighborhood and they were drug dealers which surprised my wife because the neighborhood used to be 100% Catholic. For many years the Philippine military has been fighting Muslim insurgents in the Southern islands.
The split with the USA is due in large part to Obama trying to lecture Dutarte. Perhaps in January when Obama leaves office the political winds will shift and the relationship will thaw. It would be a shame to see the US lose the PI as an ally. We send my wife's family money, clothes and kid's toys sometimes and I hate to see this happening.
He has no nukes. Putin does.
Shouldn't be a problem - President Duterte gets his instructions directly from God, and USA is God's own country.
Looks like a match made in heaven
If they do a treaty with Russia or China, those are just a boat or plane trip away. Cuba part two.
I was thinking, USA always says that they are friends with the Philippines and they have a long history of friendship and foreign policy was or is identical, but why is America rich and Philippines is poor? Why are all USA businesses and manufacturing contracts go to China instead of the Philippines? I think Duterte is right.
