No more than now-I believe they have to start real early to get a Visa as the PI has a Muslim Jihad situation in the southern part of the country.

Shouldn't be a problem - President Duterte gets his instructions directly from God, and USA is God's own country.

Looks like a match made in heaven

It's becoming a bad situation for the over 200,000 Americans living in the Philippines and the four million plus Filipinos living here. They are all uncomfortable with their new President's stance on the USA. Even frequent visitors like me are thinking twice about going there.

The good news is that the Philippine people for the most part remain very friendly to America and it's people. We have long had a very good relationship. They are beginning to be disenchanted with their new leader. Whether he will be successfully ousted remains to be seen. I only see problems ahead for the Philippines. He could set them back about twenty years, just when economic progress had begun to happen there. Foreign entities (not just the USA) are thinking twice about investing over there.

This gets into politics and I try to avoid discussing politics as much as possible but...

My wife is Filipina and her family tells her Dutarte has a lot of support because he is cracking down on drug dealers who have been a big problem. Before the crackdown her family told her there were Muslims in their neighborhood and they were drug dealers which surprised my wife because the neighborhood used to be 100% Catholic. For many years the Philippine military has been fighting Muslim insurgents in the Southern islands.

The split with the USA is due in large part to Obama trying to lecture Dutarte. Perhaps in January when Obama leaves office the political winds will shift and the relationship will thaw. It would be a shame to see the US lose the PI as an ally. We send my wife's family money, clothes and kid's toys sometimes and I hate to see this happening.

The 20,000+ Americans there are no in danger of anything.
The EU is not abandoning the Phil.

Duterte is not going to get ousted like Marcos.
He has over 80% approval rate.
Probably they highest rating of any head of state.

I was thinking, USA always says that they are friends with the Philippines and they have a long history of friendship and foreign policy was or is identical, but why is America rich and Philippines is poor? Why are all USA businesses and manufacturing contracts go to China instead of the Philippines? I think Duterte is right.

I had a conversation with a Philipno family last week about this, they also told me about the drug dealers, but from their story what they heard from family back home, they are going after people that are either not drug dealers or those that operated with the full knowledge of the government. Sounds like the old witch hunts, does not matter if you are a witch, as long as someone said you were or you were part of a group that seems a bit odd, like those Muslims they likely wanted out of the area.

what is the ratio of users to dealers in the p.i., and, if it's true that the dealers are all being executed, what happens to the addicts... Phase 2?

sounds like a good old fashioned purge/purification.

maybe the players will defect and build a vibrant pool community here or somewhere else.

If they do a treaty with Russia or China, those are just a boat or plane trip away. Cuba part two.

He's not stocking nukes. And he sure can't afford him.
And the country will be up in arms if he starts stocking nukes.
He has already said he does not want war.
He does not like what is happening with India and Pakistan.
And what is going in in the middle east .
He is not signing a treaty

He just came back from Japan. And Japan has not denounce him or his dealing with China or Russia.

Why the Philippines is not rich is because of their politicians. They have been stealing money from the people in every way possible for decades. Money that was supposed to be earmarked for better transportation and ports, for better infrastructure and schools. It all ends up in their pockets. The last administration went after the corrupt politicians (pork barrel scam) and a few are residing in jail now. Most continue in positions of power with delay after delay in their trials.
