Phrases and Saying That Only People in Pool Understand

To knock someone's action is to tell prospective opponents about the player's level of skill before he or she has a chance to demonstrate it, thereby in many cases, preventing a match from taking place.

As in: LockNload is a AA player and will clean your clock.
Someone else can define clean your clock.

Hey JoeyA,
Why did they say that about me, at Buffalo's Billiards the worlds pool hall? I did not know about that until they told me I did not play well enough to play in the monthly tournament. Did I say that right?
Many Regards,
Lock n Load.

LOL. Never saw Marcus hit a ball.

Soooo. Your definition of knocking is when you give an accurate report on how someone plays and save someone from getting robbed by a hustler?

I think you know what it means to queer a game. "Making someone not feel right about playing".

Ray

It is not MY definition of knocking Ray. It is the world's defintion of knocking. I learned a long time ago that giving someone an accurate report on how someone plays and saving someone from getting robbed by a hustler only helps them out in the short run. It is FAR better for a person to take their lumps by testing the unchartered waters. It heightens the senses of survival and will benefit them far more in the long run than someone protecting them from every roadie that comes through.

If I am asked about a person's speed I will tell the truth and I don't think that is knocking someone's action. It becomes knocking someone's action when a person volunteers that information without being asked, but that is just my opinion.

Don't worry, you can ask me anytime. :D

have been Elephants (Trunk) to pay all those Nelson (Eddys) for it

For the people (even some pool people) who don't understand all of these phrases, definitions can be found here:

Dave

You have a terrific resource there, Dr. Dave.

Two you may consider adding are:

It's George = The coast is clear - No Trouble - A Good Game - We Have A Green Light

Rainbow Crush - in gambling this would represent *all* of the balls plus the breaks (if you get this spot, you can't lose). Could either be self depricating - 'I need the rainbow crush' or an insult - 'you needs the rainbow crush'.

best,
brian kc

This might not technically count, but pool talk with get you some weird looks if other people are around........

"I went over Bill's house last night. He really needs to clean his equipment. I hate playing with dirty balls."

Good idea. I've added "rainbow crush" and will consider "it's George."

I cut the nine down the rail for the rent.

Couldn't make a ball if the rails were pockets and the pockets were rails.

Wouldn't bet fat meets greasy.

He's a member ( when your opponent is about to scratch).

This shot is fraught with peril. Grady

Can't win from the stool.

His stroke looks like an octopus falling out of a tree.

He cut the paint off that ball.

Once when I lost the money by playing worse than usual, jersey Red said,"you couldn't find the hole with an indian guide"

I believe he had used the terminology before, but never at a more opportune time.

Be sure and include the context. :shocked2:
