Picture Sharing/posting

i think it depends on many circumstances....as for using a picture in your avatar, well that's been done by most everyone on here (not me :) ) whether it be cues, girls, animated gif's, etc......that don't bother me.....for post's it's nice to have permission but then again if the owner doesn't want the pics on the net he shouldn't have put them where they can be taken and used in the first place........as long as they're not being used to deceive or gain benefit from then i don't care. on the other hand if they were pics sent to you privately via email or something then permission is definitely required imo....

I Have A Few Questions That I Think Should Be Discussed, And This Is The Best Palce To Go Over Them.......

If You Copy/save Someone Else's Pics From The Internet, Should You Be Able To Post Them Freely, Wherever/whenever You Want?

Question 2....

If You Have Never Owned The Cue, Should You Be Able To Use It In Your Avatar?

I Was Talking To Joe And These Questions Came Up, So I Figured We Should Get More Input Here.

Question 1: No, if you didn't take the picture, it's not yours to use w/o permission.

Question 2: I would say yes, IF you are the one that actually took the picture. Otherwise, I would say no.

Good questions.

Marcus.....Just my laid back ole country opinion. If I put a picture on the internet in any way, I feel it is available to anybody to use anyway they want. If I dont want it used or copied or whatever, I shouldnt put it out there...

Precisely my stance on the subject...unless it is a scammer using one of my pics fraudulently on Ebay etc.

Steve,

I share your opinion 100%. I don't know how people can post avatars of women, etc. that are clearly copyrighted photos and then grouse about posting a cue photo. Many of the avatars are photos that were taken "for hire" and might be considered more "sacred" but I, like you, figure anything posted on the net might as well be plastered all over the world and if it's interesting, probably WILL be.

I have posted pictures of my Gina in detail here because I like to share it's beauty with others that might appreciate it and as such anyone may freely distribute it, if I expected otherwise I would have protected it accordingly.

To tell you the truth, the more my cue pics were used, the more flattered I would be.

Me too, but on that same note...I have spent a lot of time in Ernie's shop lately and have taken a lot of photos while there, but in the case of having captured someone ELSE'S cue in MY photos, THOSE I won't post because I respect their right to share or not, their cues. But if THEY post them, all bets are off......:)

Just my $.02 and overpriced at that.

Joe

You are exactly right on. If its of someone elses, you have no ethical right to reuse them, without permission. If you own it, do what you want. Theres another $.01 worth

We have been very lax on photo's, I could right click protect but I don't. But I have never been inclined to be a jerk in that manner.

Even if you did, the photos can still be obtained, just takes an extra step.

I personally feel that if someone is using the photos on ebay and they do not actually own the cue, then its wrong. Fraud is always wrong! It is always polite to ask nicely if you want pics. If there is no malcontent then I would let it slide.

IMO it's generally in poor taste to use someone else's pictures without asking; this is especially true if you are in turn trying to sell the item in question. If the post references the source, that's ok....giving credit always is a nice gesture. I don't see any problem with copying them for the individual's personal reference. After all, the web is free.

Dovetailing off the first part, if you've never owned the cue and didn't take the picture, then how would you have the image to use? Again, it would be in good taste to have asked to use it. :)

Just out of curiosity. Who is in you avatar. Do you own the rights to her likeness? Did you take the pic? If you do fine, use it. If you don't I can't see how you can complain about people using a pic in there avatar of a cue you own or owned. JMO

WHO SAID I WAS COMPLAINING????

I ASKED A QUESTION TO GET SOME INPUT AND DISCUSSION GOING.

personally I wouldnt post without permission.
However you loose all rights to private info if you post it in a public forum. I too save pics for ideas and to show customers.

I guess it would be nice for someone to ask out of respect for the other person but it is just a picture.

I mean... i really know the backround about this and i know why it`s Mr. Fast_N_Loose started this thread.

1. Of course legaly there is absolutely NO problem with this!

2. I would NOT post pics WITHOUT the comment that the cue doesn`t belong to me.

3. Neither would i post such picts without any comment.

4. I would not start a new thread to post pics of a cue that i don`t own.

!!!!!!!!!!
5. If someone has already shared pictures of his cue he seems to be ok with sharing the pictures. At least you COULD think he is ok with it. So its NOT completely absurd to think like this!
!!!!!!!

So if someone posts pics of a nice cue in the "show searing cues bla" thread and adds the comment that it doesnt belong to him it MIGHT be ok. (oh wow... why the hell am i taking this example??? ) Finally it was shared before! If it should have kept like a secred it would NOT have been shared before!

But finaly i totally agree that this is a borderline question!

Btw: I`m waiting for a PN of someone who might have started this thread... i mean i think i`m right that most people here are adults and keep behaving like adults DON`T THEY?

Best regards,

Nossi

Well here is my input...

My aviatar is from Troy. When I bought the cue I stole the picture. I didnt ask and frankly didnt even think about asking.

So I guess I should ask.

Love the cue, Troy was awesome to deal with, I have even bought more cues since I stole the pic....

Interesting topic.

YOU DON'T KNOW WHY I STARTED THE THREAD, YOU WEREN'T INVOLVED IN MY CONVERSATION.

THIS HAD BEEN A RUNNING TOPIC OF DISCUSSION BETWEEN JOE AND I FOR A LONG TIME.

DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY, IT REALLY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SEARING PICTURES. MY BIGGEST QUESTION WAS ABOUT THE AVATARS BEING USED IF THE PERSON DOESN'T/NEVER DID OWN THE CUE.

IF YOUR BTW AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR POST IS DIRECTED AT ME, DON'T WORRY, I WON'T PM YOU, I'LL MAKE ALL MY POSTS PUBLIC. YOU HAD PM'D ME, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

Contrary to popular belief there is a world outside your computer screen and some of us still call and talk to each other outside of pm's, e-mails, and VBB boards.

I talk to about a dozen people every other day and we converse about a multitude of issues. This just happens to be one of them.

Also just because a person puts a photo on the internet, it doesn't make that photo fair game. I know the internet makes it seem that way, but I am sure there are legalities that would arise if someone really wanted to push the issue. Not that I care personally, but would understand if someone was offended.
