Atleast. With no discretion. B&R 1st rack of the match on me. Im a 6 He is a 4. I almost hurled. I couldn't gain my composure back. And I see now that was the whole point. I know you all hate apa but its all I have in my area. And with a fair(rules wise) team we cant win. So I am OVER the whole thing. I think APA in (this is gonna cause drama) Southern Ohio Should all together be shut down until they can prove they are honest. This is coming from a former sand bagger who didnt realize what was taking place. I dont think any of those guys could play for real. I know this. As angry as I am at these cheaters, I would Give ODDS to all of them. I hope one is on this forum. Play Honest or F%#@ off from pool, you dont deserve to play this great game.

Who agrees?

I can't understand why anyone would ever purposely play worse than they are capable of. It is simply a matter of character.

avoid leagues if it bothers you that much. sandbaggers seem to be in every league i've ever heard about

For many APA is a social league. So on most nights they are just banging balls but on some nights against certain people they play/try their best. People like to call them sandbaggers.
People who play a whole season with 4 or 5 beers in them on league night and in playoffs show up stone cold sober and play a SL or two above their handicap. It is what it is and I'm inclined to think that's not really sandbagging. No one in league should be expected to play every game as if their life depended on it. But that's my opinion, others will have theirs.

IF you don't like the handicap, then play the Master's league, it's the best league APA has.

i know a couple of people that actually do throw matches to get lower handicaps. thats in the usppa, not the apa. i met a couple of people in the bca that i thought were sandbagging but they weren't really throwing matches or anything. they just weren't trying as hard as they could have been

Im having a small debate with the APA League Operator in my area at the moment. Maybe Nationals is to blame since it seems so many individual leagues have issues.

That's very true. I used to play every match with 4 - 5 beers in me and thought I was playing fine. Now I've decided to play without the beers and I'm not only playing better but I'm much more consistent.
I'll be moving up soon for sure.

I think an APA SL4 can break and run every once in a while. If he was doing it multiple times a night than I could see him supposed to being a SL6 or at least an SL5. Break and run on the first rack could have just been a fluke. How did he play the rest of the matches?

I had an SL4 almost break and run on me on the first match of 8-Ball. I was a SL5 at the time. He broke, made a ball, ran out to the 8 and had great position, but somehow dogged the 8. I then ran out the rest of the rack and sank the 8, and from then on he barely could make 2-3 balls in a roll the rest of the night. I've also had a legit SL3 girl run 5 balls including the 8 on me to win a game. Sometimes they just catch a groove and play well.

For the beer thing, that is exactly how my friend is. He says league night is just to have fun and will drink it up. If he plays in the playoffs though he wont drink and take it more serious. Definitely most people play better sober, that is why he makes fun of me since I don't drink at all and I'm mostly playing a bunch of half drunks on league night.

So let me get this straight. A "former" cheater thinks he has been cheated and is unhappy about it. Right?

You idiot.

And exactly what is "... a former sandbagger..." anyway?

Repeating - you're an idiot. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.

So I am OVER the whole thing. I think APA in (this is gonna cause drama) Southern Ohio Should all together be shut down until they can prove they are honest.

... This is coming from a former sand bagger who didnt realize...

what was taking place.

Just to play "devils advocate"....its funny how in one thread we put road hustlers up on a pedestal...we laugh and celebrate how they "robbed" victim after victim by misrepresenting their true abilities.

I've never participated in any of the APA leagues and am not exactly sure how they work. But every time I read how they rate/rank players I just shake my head. I guess if you choose to participate you might as well accept that cheating/misrepresenting ones abilities is always going to exist...its just to easy. Any higher of expectations will only compound your frustrations....

So, you got beat by a 4 and now APA sucks?!? Play better next time.

How can you on one hand say these guys are equal to you and then say you would give them all odds? Doesn't sound like sandbagging to me, sounds like you lost to an inferior player and have a bad case of sour grapes.

Tap, tap, tap.

I am always confused about how we celebrate "hustling" and complain about sandbagging.

6 on 4 is a 5-3 race. You lost the 1st game... 4's run out once in a great while - it happens. Playing a 4 is the match from hell for a 7. You start out in a 5-2 race, but you're still the better player. You have to adjust. If you're gonna try and run out every game, on a bar table especially, then you are going to expose yourself to some extent. Still, fact is, lower SL's will mostly fail to run a table full of balls - even in the open. Some times you have to accept that your goal isn't as much to "beat" a lower SL as to out last them. Game management is important, but not as much as managing yourself.

So let me get this straight.

You are am admitted sandbagger and now that you lost, you can only assume that the other team is sandbagging as well.

Sounds to me like you dumped for so long that when the chips were down, you just couldn't bring your game. I would guess (without knowing the situatuation - it is only a guess) is that the other team just played well and that because they beat you, you must only assume that they were sandbagging as well.

I have this theory - most of the few people who say they sandbag, either really arent ready to move up and therefor say they sandbag or just say they sandbag as an excuse for losing.

Either way, you seem like a pretty poor sport and I am really glad I don't play in your area or agianst someone like you.

^^^^seriously. c'mon people, make up your mind.

and the point of this thread, i play in a state-league (basically apa rules/ratings though) and people dog shots all the time. there are 3's in-session that play like our 7's when it's the championships.

i'm told we have apa here, but that's no better. we don't have bca, otherwise i'd be all up in that mess. heh

I havent read the whole thead.

What you need to do is file a complaint with the LO. If they are really sandbagging then eventually enough complaints will come in and they will move up in rank and need to split the team.

If they are a new team I can see how somebody could be rated a SL4 but play like a SL6. For example, if you have never played you start as a SL4. If you lose the first you usually go down to a SL3. That SL3 could really be a SL6.

When I add a new player to my roster I always try to get them the most difficult matchup to start because if they lose it gives them a huge handicap.
