Player Selection for First IPT Tournament

Personally, I am pleased that the 10 Hall of Famers are being "invited." :)

In these times, the veteran and seasoned pros who are Hall of Famers do not reap very much benefit in the way of monies (IMO). I like seeing the legends like Buddy Hall being afforded this golden opportunity, and one thing for sure, Buddy Hall's stroke will definitely be strong on that slower cloth.

At this stage, I do not understand the format clearly. I was told by Kevin Trudeau's secretary that every single person who has been accepted into the IPT will be welcome to attend the Orlando event and see firsthand how it will unfold as there will be a players meeting at that time for EVERY member.

So the IPT members who did not get "invited" to the FIRST invitational event are urged to come to Orlando and hear it from the promoters what this tour is truly all about.

I'm still in a wait-and-see stance and hoping that the IPT will be a change agent for the game/sport.

Im hoping the players can make a decent buck with it but as Colin pointed out, to do that-It probably will need to take an approach that will not appeal to the current fan base or to pool purists.

It for sure is not appealing to me from what i see.

People have been saying 8 ball is so much simpler.

I disagree- Let's say Mike Sigel breaks, makes the 8 ball and two solids. They spot the 8 and then Mike starts running out Stripes. What is the average Bar Banger going to think? There is more confusion over 8 Ball than any other game by far.

9 Ball is simple-not 8 Ball. From my experience watching tons of 9 Ball tournaments, the only thing that confuses the first timer is the push out.

Round Robin??= Confusing, Boring, Anti Climactic. Give me a break!!

Now throw in 'no shot clock' - WTF??

Slow Nap cloth, No Jump Sticks?

It sure seems like a recipe for boredom.

Maybe the players will be encouraged to wear wrestling type outfits and scream at each other and the fans as they play? I just dont see it working without something more

BTW-September is more than half over-What are the dates for the TV airing of the first IPT event that drew so many celebrities? Anyone?

Agreed. Like to see some of these guys show the young guys some "Old School". The slow cloth (obviously designed as a Sigel equalizer) should definately even the playing field with the Young Guns who are used to the fresh Simonis. Also, It gives them chance at some tournament money that wasn't there back in the day.

Without doing a search for the HOFers I'm trying to think of the ten. I have Sigel, Varner, Mizerack, Buddy Hall & I believe Ray Martin. Is Efren or Earl in there yet. Who am I missing? Maybe Ronnie Allen?

I would say that Mike Sigel, Earl Strickland and Nick Varner are in. All that is left is to wonder who Kevin Trudeau likes enough to fill the other 40 slots.

Follow the Money.

Since it is Trudeau's money, he sets the rules.

A round robin where everyone plays every other player and the one with the most wins at the end winning it all would be nice. At least that way you would crown a true champion.

Oh well, only 70 some days left to find out.

Pretty sure you can add Massey, Martin and Rempe to that list also.

From all i see and hear- It's Sigel making the rules even though Kevin's got the cash. He is obviously listening to Mike.

Kevin may be a good talker but Mike is far from a slouch. Mike has been giving him lessons for years (FRWIH) and just who is the student and who is the teacher has been long established.

I mean Cmon-playing LJJ for the 'World Championship' ?-Who do you think came up with that idea?

The format of the Skins was confusing to me last year, but I did enjoy watching it, me being a pool enthusiast. :p

I agree with you, though, on the round robin, but for a different reason.

I watched a round robin-formatted charity tournament earlier in the year. To me, it wasn't so much that the BEST player won. It was a crapshoot, and luck definitely entered into the picture. It was a 9-ball round robin, not 8 ball.

I kind of like that myself, but for personal reasons. :D

I think I remember reading about it being aired on Fox Sports? Not sure of the dates.

How many texas hold'em fans were there before the new production method made the game take off.

I knew only a little about the game, but I loved watching the game the way it was produced.

8-ball is more complex than 9-ball in strategy, but a huge percentage of people understand the basic concept. They just need it to be delivered in an interesting way.

That does not mean sexy girls walking around shown frame # cards. That is soooo stupid. Such a desperate d grade marketng effort.

Get good commentary, good visual effects, maybe a new game format. Get rid of players who draw yawns from the audience. The old pros who had to fill seats for a living knew they had to be as good at entertaining as at playing. Most the modern day pros look like pimply nerds crossed with rabbits staring into the headlights.

I think that the rules are great, but this "winner gets to play Sigel" stinks. It will be absolutely ridiculous. Let's hope not.

How many Hall of Famers are there? Efren Reyes is a Hall of Famer whose won a few 8-ball titles in recent times. ;)

Jean Balukas, LJJ, and Robin are HOF-ers, too!

JAM [Going to BCA website to see how many HOF players are around.] :p

Well, the more places we can stick sexy girls in bikinis the better :D

But seriously, no harm having them in the background, but anyone who thinks they're gonna get good ratings from a few girls walking around is a goon marketer.

It just ain't the brand, even though it may be complimentary to it. You can't compete agianst porn or hawaii swimsuit specials.

KT knows marketing, he may still have a bit to learn about entertaining production. We'll see what he turns out soon enough...hopefully!

How rediculous! Maybe that's the way the rest of the tournaments will go. Mike is permanently in the hot seat. Everyone should have to beat him 2 sets by the way. Make it a real championship.

I heard from a former US Open Champion that in the first event, they will play down to one player and then that player will play Mike Sigel for the Championship!! Believe it or Not!

Just a rumor right now, and when I heard that, I thought what a joke that would suck! But after reading Collin's post about a new game format, I thought you know what, it may be something to look into.

And I just thought of something, The name of the first tournament is KING OF THE HILL, sound's like Sigel is default King of the hill and someone needs to beat him in this tournament to become the new King of the Hill?

All the other tournaments sound like a PGA format with a yearly leader board, so maybe it's just this one tournament. Sure it would still piss some off, but all the better, we need some pissed off players fighting for the championship.:D

Just think someone upsets Sigel in the first tournament and now they become the King of the Hill, and the next tournament they get to play the runner up by default and someone needs to beat them to take away the title. Everyone always fighting to get at the champ.

So if it is just this one tournament stop, Big deal we sure do need to make changes to draw some excitement. Second place money will be huge, most likely 75,000 heck 10th place will be around 25,000 so people wouldn't be too mad.

I beg your pardon

After the first two or three tournaments, you might have a pretty long wait!
