I doubt they want a lot, just some input. No one is looking for free health ins.
SVB said it cost him $3000.00 to come to this weekends tournament.

players are doing them a favor showing up. Is it asking too much to play on a tables that roll straight, or be sure they get paid.
 
Union is a nasty buzzword.

There certainly needs to be some type of unification within the sport for it to grow.

Not an apples to apples comparison for obvious reasons but take something like the UFC. It’s thrived because of the central nature of the competition. Now that wasn’t something the fighters created but the idea of centralizing could be a positive while also benefiting the players as a whole.

Compared to say boxing… which is a shit show right now.

With that said I’m not pro union but this sport needs to come together to show significant growth.

I remember when the pro players banded together and supported Don Mackey and that tour, all of em.

Three grand is not pocket change, that is big buck to gamble in playing well.

Thought SBV had sponsors?
 
While my knee jerk reaction is that forming a union is a really bad idea, it boils down to what the union's mission will be, because it might just be a good idea.

The last union formed, called the ABP, had at its core, in my opinion, the goal of strong-arming event producers into paying more prize money, with a stated minimum for added money, threatening to sit out events that failed to comply. If that's the mission of this union, heaven help us all.

On the other hand, if the union will focus on playing conditions, rules, dress code, code of conduct rules and possibly even setting up a group health care plan, a union may add a lot of value.

I'll reserve judgment here, for I'm not sure what the mission of this union will be.

I worked the IT department of a big company for 35 years, non union, but all the employees in the manufacturing plants were union. When they went on strike the office workers had to cross the picket lines to work in the plants. Not pretty at times!

This current format is not good for the best players. More of a roll of the dice.

Then you still gotta get paid.
