Saturday Night.
Well, ........... like I said, I went to a local bar where they hold leagues expecting a little competition. No Takers of the very few players at the bar.:frown: I stayed 2 hrs anyway as I had not been to this particular bar in over 3 months.
The owner "John" (not his real name), was there so we chatted it up awhile while I waited for my turn on the table to come up. I noticed something different about the table; It is a completely new one !

WOW, I was floored! I came back to Earth when I noticed the same beat-up poly balls in play.

My turn came up, so I asked "john" to play me a set. He says, "sure, I'll play yeaa," and foolishly I ask him his pleasure. He says "8-ball." I get him to agree to alternating 8-ball , 9-ball. {Advantage "John" 8-ball,...... Advantage me 9-ball.} We agree on a 5 game set opening with 8-ball as there are peops waiting. I figure its about even as he cuts really well in 8-ball and has home field advantage. My advantage is I'm the better (slightly) shooter.
John takes game 1 (8-ball) as I am trying to adjust to the new table.:shakehead: Its slowwwwwwww ! I mean slowwww too. Mind you, I just came off of a 9ft w/broken-in 860 cloth. Making an adjustment here was an understatement! I felt like I was putting a golf-ball in the rough after a thunderstorm.
John takes game 2 (9-ball) as I am leaving balls short of the pocket.

There was practically no English in this game, ( I Drew a ball that shudda travelled 1/2 table,..... it went 1 diamond !

That felt had that CB glued to the table like velcro.
Game 3 starts, and I got it figured out as to what to do. I "D'ed" the _ ell out of him figuring that was all I could do for the moment. I was lucky banks were open. The felt would give me 1 rail (long & cross-table), but balls died on their journey to 2nd rail. I win game 3
I break game 4 and drop 1 (6 ball) with the 1 ball open but close to not getting the hit I need. One ball drops, so does the 2,3,4. Long & thin for the 5, So I pull a nice table to table "D" shot. John bumps the 5 close for me, and I'm out. I get game 4.
The whole time we are kidding each other back & forth (he loves to squawk), and we were both talking to our balls. <---- more me than him.
Game 5 comes and I break dry! (how this happens onna 7ft table anyway?). John goes into cutting mode and pots 4 balls, then jams himself. "I didn't put that there,.... you did!" , I said smirking sarcasm. I see the pattern, and I'm out. I sink 4 balls and butch a rail shot that had angle! (Didn't have to worry too much about balls overshooting on this table!) I figure its over when John misses his pot and rattles.:grin-square: We both howled. He left me open and I got out.
Bottom LINE: THAT TABLE WAS SLOW ! I needed to adjust (fast) or I was done! ALL-IN-ALL??? I would say it was a little bit
frustrating, but I still enjoyed the set. We don't play for $$ anymore , we buy the winner a few.
Its all good between friends.
