Well, the weekend is here, and I figured everyone is going out to play some before Easter Sunday.
How was play this weekend ? Relaxing? OR Frustrating?

Here is where you can let it out (for good or bad) It is good to share your joy ,as well as your pitfalls. So,............... whether you are in a league, pool-haul, hustling for $$$, having a few at the local bar, or even at home,........ share your weekend triumphs & tragedies !!

That ball did what ?!?
:smile::(:tongue::woot::tongue::scratchhead: :smilewinkgrin::shocked:::banghead: :happydance:

i'm going to play in about an hour and be back later this afternoon. i'll let you know how it went....well, if it goes really bad i could end up in jail, so if i don't get back to you please understand.

Played bar box 8 against some of the locals last nite. About 4 hours worth lost three games, ran 6 racks, probably a total of 18 - 25 games. Wasn't really trying too hard was concentrating on all of us having fun. Pretty typical night when I am in town. Was a pretty laid back nite. Relaxing..... I will probably do the same tonight.

My Weekend line-up.

WARNING! ............. My contribution to this thread will likely seem like a "weekend journal," but I don't really mind,........... for a weekend.

It is sat. afternoon,...... I feel good. Practiced fri. night mostly position and a few drills. Today came more position play and break practice on the home table. Pool is RELAXING, I got speed down just right ! Whitey is onna leash it seems. League play is Sunday night and I am so-so about it. Itsa dbl jeopardy league and I am onna strong team.

I will explain the so-so attitude in later posts. Right now, its soooooo good!
So much so in fact, i'mma gonna go bang a few at one of the local watering holes tonite. More later.............

Relaxing ... always relaxing. If you find it frustrating it's probably because things are not going well which means you need to channel that frustration into working harder on improving the areas of your game that are causing the frustration. To just be frustrated is self defeating as it will cause you to play worse. Kinda like going on tilt in poker.

Saturday Night.

Well, ........... like I said, I went to a local bar where they hold leagues expecting a little competition. No Takers of the very few players at the bar.:frown: I stayed 2 hrs anyway as I had not been to this particular bar in over 3 months.
The owner "John" (not his real name), was there so we chatted it up awhile while I waited for my turn on the table to come up. I noticed something different about the table; It is a completely new one ! WOW, I was floored! I came back to Earth when I noticed the same beat-up poly balls in play. My turn came up, so I asked "john" to play me a set. He says, "sure, I'll play yeaa," and foolishly I ask him his pleasure. He says "8-ball." I get him to agree to alternating 8-ball , 9-ball. {Advantage "John" 8-ball,...... Advantage me 9-ball.} We agree on a 5 game set opening with 8-ball as there are peops waiting. I figure its about even as he cuts really well in 8-ball and has home field advantage. My advantage is I'm the better (slightly) shooter.
John takes game 1 (8-ball) as I am trying to adjust to the new table.:shakehead: Its slowwwwwwww ! I mean slowwww too. Mind you, I just came off of a 9ft w/broken-in 860 cloth. Making an adjustment here was an understatement! I felt like I was putting a golf-ball in the rough after a thunderstorm.
John takes game 2 (9-ball) as I am leaving balls short of the pocket. :confused:There was practically no English in this game, ( I Drew a ball that shudda travelled 1/2 table,..... it went 1 diamond ! That felt had that CB glued to the table like velcro.
Game 3 starts, and I got it figured out as to what to do. I "D'ed" the _ ell out of him figuring that was all I could do for the moment. I was lucky banks were open. The felt would give me 1 rail (long & cross-table), but balls died on their journey to 2nd rail. I win game 3
I break game 4 and drop 1 (6 ball) with the 1 ball open but close to not getting the hit I need. One ball drops, so does the 2,3,4. Long & thin for the 5, So I pull a nice table to table "D" shot. John bumps the 5 close for me, and I'm out. I get game 4.
The whole time we are kidding each other back & forth (he loves to squawk), and we were both talking to our balls. <---- more me than him.
Game 5 comes and I break dry! (how this happens onna 7ft table anyway?). John goes into cutting mode and pots 4 balls, then jams himself. "I didn't put that there,.... you did!" , I said smirking sarcasm. I see the pattern, and I'm out. I sink 4 balls and butch a rail shot that had angle! (Didn't have to worry too much about balls overshooting on this table!) I figure its over when John misses his pot and rattles.:grin-square: We both howled. He left me open and I got out.
Bottom LINE: THAT TABLE WAS SLOW ! I needed to adjust (fast) or I was done! ALL-IN-ALL??? I would say it was a little bit frustrating, but I still enjoyed the set. We don't play for $$ anymore , we buy the winner a few.
Its all good between friends.

Well, I was frustrated that I needed to (and couldn't) adjust my ball speed to turtle. that's all. We hadda blast! When this table wears in; it will loosen up a little and be a lot more fun to play. For now, its straight in and 1 rail shots.

Y'all should feel lucky. I have a touch of pneumonia and haven't been out of the house or picked up a cue since Monday the 18th.

It's killin' me (not the pneumonia, but the NOT feeling up to a game of pool).

Maniac (on antibiotics now so it won't be long....)

Itzda Cheeeeeeeze !! (Ma-aaaaaan)

Sunday night:

Well, Sunday means league nite, I am still so-so about tonight for some reason. I just can't seem to get excited about too much of anything. All week long my focus has been on position practice and 8-ball break. I actually got here a little bit early, about 20 minutes. There is no "strategy session" with my green captain concerning 8-ball side tonight. not unusual.:( So, I start to warm-up and took this pic. Nice to be on smooth, fast cloth after whatever that was last night. Whitey can dance again! A recent addition to one of the teams asks to warm-up w/me. No problem, She's the GF of one of the guys that work there, and she's also a total sweetheart ! She impresses me by how serious she takes her game now, I'll have to remember that later If I ever wind-up playing her. She left me with a lot of really challenging safeties to kick out of!
I get the call from cap't for 9-ball, and i'm facing a guy I beat last session. He looks at me and says "I haven't practiced all week!" TOTAL B/S when they say this. He wins lag with a lag that couldn't fit a credit-card between the ball and the rail. Mine stops a balls width. Hmmmm, interesting ! He breaks like Johnny Archer and I know he has been honing his break. Wondering if it was in prep for me?!? :scratchhead: He gets a good jump on me, i'm down 12. Now I just want at the table.
Here's the dig : When I get to the table, I start playing like I am on that 7 ft last night. My speed is heavy I need to adjust. My opp is a pocket machine, aim is perfect, his speed is on ,and he's hitting the banks as well. I gotta play "Catch-up" like last night. So I start laying down the "D" pretty heavy in hopes of waiting for that opportunity to punch out on offense. Trouble was my speed was still justa bit off. I was around 2 inches long or short on almost every "D" shot. He's punching them in,... I'm down 16. Finally, he makes an error and leaves me with a combo 3-9 ball for the out , OR,..................OR to run the table as it is spread nice. I miss again on a speed issue, and he's off & running again. Crucial MISS-take !!! The rest was history,........
I complimented him on how much he had improved. He seemed to appreciate my comment. This left me MAD,So I went looking for games between matches. My 8- ball match never came as my cap't was holding me out assa strategy move. I wasn't so sure about that, but I'm only co-cap't,........ who am I to question??

That match motivated me!! I practiced alone for a solid 45 min, and it got real cheeeeezy from there on. (Got me into the triples)

I do not want this thread to be just about my weekend. I would really like to see others contribute to the thread. Tell us how your weekend went....

well i will contribute to this thread some.

fri night double jeapordy . won both my games. dont remember much about how it went, sometimes i cant remember what i ate yesterday. oh by the way i am a 5 and played 2 5's.

tonight i played double jeapordy again, i will write it down now while its still fresh in my mind lol.

9 ball i played another 5 who i have faced several times over the last 2 years. dont know for sure but i think we are about even in matches won. it was one of those nights where i just could not get going. after the 2nd rack i was down 18-2. finaly got it going in the 3rd rack after he missed the 5 and i ran out. next rack i ran 5 and played safe, he missed and i ran out. went back and forth for a few racks with me getting most of the points. last rack i had a break and run with me winning 38-37. talk about coming from behind, wow i barely pulled it out.

8 ball i faced a strong 6. matter of fact i think he oughta be a 7 and he says i oughta be a 6 lol. since i finaly got in stroke after my 9 ball game i jump out ahead 3-1. he start missing nothing, running out from everywhere, i made a couple of what i thought were lock down safes and he comes up with some efren like shots and we are both on the hill. he breaks and runs 7 balls, misses the 8. i run 7 balls and miss the 8. he pockets it winning 5-3. i played about the best i have in a long while and still lost. cant win them all. :) 8 racks went only 12 innings with me playing 3 safes.

if this thread is still going next weekend i will also have my napa league to include, we play every other saturday.

Yeah, I know ya can't win 'em all but damn! This kid came gunnin' 4 me. Make it worse was my 'tude & inability to lay them safes down right !

Thanks For sharing !

i know what you mean about guys gunnin for you.

there is this one guy who is a 5 like me that plays in 2 divisions with me. every time our teams face each other he say i want you! i want you tonight !

we are about even in shotmaking or cue ball position ability. but where he gets me is all the damn slop he resorts to. it always got me frustrated and outa my game when he slopped one in and got perfect on his next ball.

he has won about 60 or 70 percent of our matches, mainly because i got frustrated . well last tue night i hear i want you !

i told my captain put me up, she said you sure ? she knows how he gets to me. i said yea. i told her the only way he going to beat me is nothing but slop shots cause i aint leaving him shit . when i won the lag i told my self he cant beat me if he dont get to the table or i dont leave him nothing but kick shots.

i won 4-1. cant wait til the next time i hear that i want you shit again.

Pool is both relaxing and frustrating for me. When I hit the record button, it seems like it really improves my practice sessions.

One thing is, I don't put limitations on my game anymore. There are things on the pool table that I once thought I would never be able to do.

Here's one of those things:
http://youtu.be/drbbyFtAa3Q

And then just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I did again 30 minutes later:
http://youtu.be/b_UtqjFUtjA

That was pretty relaxing. Of course that was two weekends ago. This past weekend, I couldn't make a ball! That was pretty frustrating.

Friday: good long 2+ hour lesson with a teammate... later we played scotch doubles with some buddies and won pretty solidly. Relaxing.

Saturday: Was gonna take a day off and got 'called into work' by one of the doubles opponents I'd played earlier. A little annoyed he was late and decided he wanted to shoot at like 10 pm, long after I'm settled into other plans. Think I let it get to my game.
We played straight pool, I started shooting like a dog, and I kind of blew up.
So... stressful.

Sunday: Playing another teammate, he's a few speeds below and I pretty much BBQ'd him
doing 9 and 10 ball. So... relaxing.

It seems that when I'm winning, playing weaker opponents, or on big pockets, I'm relaxed... the instant I lose more than 2 in a row, or play tough opponents, or play on diamonds, I get stressed out. And these days straight pool always stresses me out.

Finished just out of the money in a strong tournament...played well but somebody has got to lose and this time it was me. Ill get'm next time :) I'm never to upset if I feel I stayed relaxed. Hit them smooth and made good decisions.
Sunday Apa 9 ball I played a 2 (I'm a 9). I was cruising until she had a nice little 5 point run which is a killer when they only need 18 lol so I had to bare down and pull it out. I always find it stressful playing low numbers like that. They all want to beat you for the notch on there belt.

At the end of the day it's ALWAYS better then work lol

Hmmm weekend rant where to begin.... Played in the Md barbox tournament with a few fellow AZers. Got off to a great start by winning 4 games in a row to hold my opponent on the hill. Played a couple more solid matches before losing 7 4 to a top player. Get in a tough match losers side and CANNOT MAKE A BALL ON THE BREAK TO SAVE MY LIFE!!!!!! Magic rack on a bar table cannot make a ball, of course my opponent rains in 3 at a time and runs out no problem. I broke great all tournament untill this match where I never made a ball alternate breaks 9 ball I was out of my misery pretty fast. Other than that frustration what a great event and I got to see my buddies so that was awesome.

Knowledge is power

Well, I found out a lil something today. My sunday night 9-ball opp was "coached" rather well by a solid S/L 7 I beat-up pretty bad . Last time I played him was just before Christmas and it wasn't pretty(for him). He took the loss cordially , and with a good attitude. He was a team-mate on another team from 2 years ago. We know each other pretty well. So my friend is a team-mate on my opps team now.
His way of getting a little "spirited pay-back" lol. (Can you say "Bush-whacked by proxy?" :lmao: )
Its all good !! This is just what I needed :grin-square::grin-devilish:

Turns out they had a "Plan" We are the stronger team, (on paper). the other teams' captain took advantage of my own capt's inexperience, and a few facts. (our heavy was at a tournament out of state this weekend), I surmise opps cap't knew this prior to this weeks team match. SHREWD !

And here I am like a dummy so-overconfident and anxious that I go seek some fun on a BB the night before.

Enuff of my match:

I can relate to all who posted. I'll try to answer all in this post.

Yeah, competing in a tourney with a strong field does get the blood pumping. I personally don't care where I place; I just try my best!

I love the get 'em next time attitude. I'm the same way. High, (and low for that matter), emotions such as glory, (and grief) are fleeting; they don't last forever!

Pool is pretty much a roller-coaster ride. Ups and downs,..... perspective,....... hindsight. Its all good. We all just love to play, and that is what keeps us coming back for more.

Sharing thoughts and experiences is what I think forums are all about. It is how we collectively grow/excel.

AS FOR ME; I beat myself up for everything I do wrong, its just how I deal with things.

Thank you for all who have posted and read this thread!
AND BEST TO ALL

a story of both

The scene was set, a sparsely populated pool hall where a friend and I decided to rock up all set for a battle for the ages.

2 warriors strode through the darkness to the beacon of hope for so many, carrying a cue and a pocket full of dreams, this was to be a battle to end them all and we both knew we would have to pull something huge out the bag. Our loins were girded and the look in our eyes was of a steely determination which suggested we would defend any advantage gained like Cerberus guards the gates of hell, the lag came and went with the closest of margins, and the race was on, as I strode to the table for my first visit I inhaled deeply and pictured in my mind scenarios to garner strength for the battle that lay ahead....

Unfortunately what follows was literally the very worst session of 9 ball I have ever played, I missed shots that there is no reasonable justification for missing from mere cm, I couldn't cue right, every shot felt awkward and nothing at all was going how I planned, every time I switched to defence I may as well have given him BIH the distance I was missing them by, I tried not to let it get on top of me, but I have some difficulties staying out of my head and it proceeded to carry on like this for 2 (not so) long races to 20, it was one of those days that make you honestly think whether someone has deleted everything you have learned and that cause introspection about whether one might be better finding another way of unwinding... but even at my worst, at my most laughably poor one thought remained as we left the arena and ventured home so I could lick my wounds..

I do love this game, plus getting to spend time with a friend is always relaxing... eventually. I wouldn't have it any other way.

So long story short,

Relaxation (after wading through the misery filled pool of Frustration)
