Playing better while medicated

Do any of you find you play better while medicated? I've seen a lot of players not playing so well make a trip to the bathroom after not playing so well and come out world beaters.

I always drink at tourneys. It makes the win especially nice knowing i was having a blast while others were sober and somber.

I was taking a beta blocker and found I'd get to my A game quicker.

I've met at 4:20 and been skiing many times, but can't recall one time playing pool at the same time. Maybe I just couldn't remember.

That's a tough question, and without any kind of long term study and research you can't make an accurate conclusion on the topic.

Having said that, we have to remember we are not perfect human beings, we also are alive because we are this huge self sufficient chemical laboratory, but since we are not perfect many of us (in reality all of us) have different degrees of chemical imbalances, our bodies also have this huge ability to be very adaptable but also very dependent.

I have actually thought about this for a long time, I do a lot of extreme sport, that means injuries, therefore lots of prescriptions, at first you play terrible on this prescriptions, then your body becomes use to it so now you need to be on them to play good again, same goes with alcohol, everytime I have drank often for a considerable amount of time, then I need to have a drink or two to play good. I have randomly taken pills like tramadol and it worked great right away, but after a while it doesn't work as good anymore, or you need higher dose. I don't smoke, but some people absolutely have to go outside and smoke before a match.

Now I will tell you this, everytime my body has been absolutely healthy, no injuries, no alcohol for a couple of weeks, good sleep, really good food, no worries in life and a good workout regimen, I have played the absolute beat pool in my life, just as I have played great in certain ocations medicated. So if I have to pick, the healthy route is the toughest but in the long run is the most benefitial.

Marinol (pot pill) is a by prescription only, schedule 3 drug.

Clearly, it has a use in oncology when trying to stimulate a patients appetite.

I'm sure Oncologists all over the country are trembling in fear of losing their license because they are simply looking to make a score.

HAHAHAHA!

Since I brought this up I can tell you that I definetly play better after taking a couple of my legally prescribed xanax.

I'm with you on this but...

I'm wondering if ChopDoc is working the technicality route. In my opinion, there is no reason to argue it either way. Once again, another interesting thread that went the shithole way by some odd reason other than straight out flaming.

From the California ruling or whatever (yeah, anyone who wants to argue the semantics, I'm not doing it so there)

"Before passing Proposition 203 in 2010, Arizona voters originally passed a ballot initiative in 1996. However, the initiative stated that doctors would be allowed to write a "prescription" for marijuana. Since marijuana is still a Schedule I substance, federal law prohibits its prescription, making the initiative invalid. Medical marijuana "prescriptions" are more often called "recommendations" or "referrals" because of the federal prescription prohibition."

may have been danny beale's all star billiards on winchester road.

Ah yes, Danny. He would sure bet it up, that's for sure! I missed out on his All Star room, but I was a denizen of his Rack Club before he sold it off of Richmond Road. Good action joint. Saw Bobby Pickle, Eric Durbin, Danny Basovich, Cecil Tugwell and others there. Of course Larry Price played out of there for years and people came to play him frequently (RIP Larry!!!). Good times.

Cheers,

JL

You are right.
He very well might be playing the technicality route on the "prescription" word.

But for him to make broad sweeping statements that physicians who "prescribe" medical marijuana, are all in one category, is just flat out ignorant.

Especially given that he has no idea which doctors send their patients to dispensaries for legitimate medical reasons.

As long as he continues to make statements that are consistent with the physician "god complex", there will be those who challenge the legitimacy of those statements.
For sure, chopdoc is a very educated person, but it wouldn't be the first time he has let his training go to his head and come out with some broad sweeping statement that was totally wrong.

You can blame his ego for any hijack.
Not that of those who correct him on his glaring generalization errors.

As for as I'm concerned, [and Iwork around them all day] come talk to me when you've cured something. What do you call the lowest medical student in his class? ..... a docter. Bunch of pampered, self-absorbed,&^%*&. Oh and don't get me started on dentist's.

I know a few guys that 'think' they play better after that little trip to the bathroom.

I 'think' they just can't tell that they still suck. ;) Or they don't care as much. :)

Vicidin and Redbulls (the drink)....(years ago)

Help? Well, I could play alot longer with no pain.

I am in total agreement with the last paragraph. In addition I have found not smoking to have been a huge help to my game. I was a smoker since my teenage years and quit 2 months ago. I used to be shakey and be a little nervous when playing at times. Now my blood pressure is 115 over 73 and I don't shake at all. My nerves are completely calm now. I thought it could possibly make my nerves worse from quitting cigarettes. Now I am working out so I can not only be calm at the table, but feel mentally and physically stronger. I think the reason all the Europeans caught up to the Americans in pool is because they learned how to play our games well, and they are in incredible physical condition. I think a few of us have caught on to that. I know SVB works out now and Earl Strickland has had a daily workout routine for quite a while, running 5 miles a day etc.. In something like a 10 ahead set or a long tournament, my money is gonna be on the player who is in great physical condition. My feeling is any given drug will only work temporarily at best. In the long run the player treating himself well and in great physical condition is going to be the most consistent.

I don't use cannabis because I get paranoid. However, ever I do take anxiety meds everyday and on game day I take an extra dose. I have been known to go to the bathroom and do a short workout when the bar is freezing and I can't stop shivering. Both help improve my game.

i have too, wont name names. it was long ago. I will never go down that road myself. I know how to play the drug players, but i dont like to, same for drunks-i'll pass.

Awhile back I was super tired and got a money game with a go off, he always lost plenty of money and liked to play for awhile because he was usually all drugged up. I guess he signed himself out of the casinos so he needed to get his fix. I decided to take an adderall to wake up and play, I did not miss a ball and snapped him off the first set brutally playing one pocket. He had got a call and had to go meet someone and we were finished, so now I am wired, the poolroom is empty and my mind is racing so I had to get out of there. I never did it again and its doubtful I ever would. I have heard people say adderall will make you see the ball better then you have, to be honest it was true but I will just stick with playing pool on the natch.

What kind of workout?

It's true, several players take that bathroom break and all of the sudden they are much improved....for awhile. But eventually time and tolerance gets them and they play worse than ever because of it.

It's the fast track to becoming a junkie. The only thing you need to play better is between your ears.
