Playing with a hat on, does it help?

I have seen several people wear hats when they play. Last night I saw one fellow wearing one and thought maybe it helps see only the light coming from the balls and the shot your looking at. Think about when you are outside and it is very sunny out, you put your hand across your eyebrow to block the sun so you can see better; sorta the same thing.

The more I think about the more I think it has merit. With a diamond light I dont think you have to worry to much about this, but with the standard 3 light bulbs over most tables I can see the hat being helpful.

What do all of you think?
 
I have no idea,,I have never played without a hat. In 30 years I don't think I have ever hit one ball without a hat.

I can tell you,,,on a few shots. It gets in the way. It may be more often then that . As far as being in the sight of a shot. But I think from wearing it so much ,,one gets used to it.

If a guy that never wears a hat tried it,,,,Im betting it is in the way to the point he can't shoot.

It's hard to say if it helps with lighting.
 
it merely keeps my hair from falling in my face! thought a bandana would be a little too much even though that's what i wore when i played throughout the islands several years back.....of course nickname was "bandana man"........i have to be careful now. i don't want to have a nickname of "hat man".......at least i know how to wear a hat and know the difference when it is straight or off to the side.....
 
I tried one a few year ago. Some people said it helps with glare from the lights. I found the brim was blocking my view of the shot. I took it off after a few minutes, it was just too uncomfortable for me. Note, I'm not a hat wearer in general.
 
Does a hat help your pool game? So many thoughts:

1. Uh... YEAH! And not just cuz of the aforementioned reduction in glare, but also cuz it keeps your head warm, which helps the blood flow more easily to your brain, which makes you smarter, which makes you play better.

2. Uh... YEAH! Cuz as Billy Crystal said "To look good is to feel good." And if you feel good, you play better.

3. Uh... YEAH! Cuz hats make you look cool, and if you look cool, your opponent will feel intimidated and not play well.

Then again... NO! How many pros wear hats while they're playing? If hats gave any advantage to all, don't you think they'd wear them?

What's next? Short sleeve shirts are better cuz they reduce the restriction in your stroke? Shaving your arm hair to make your stroke smoother?

You wanna know what improves your pool game? Practice.

I don't understand players that wear the hat backwards.
I love a hat or a visor, especially for those round light shades with
incandescent bulbs.:angry:

I'm a bit light sensitive, so Diamond is one of the few lights I can play
under with no hat.
 
Don't wear one when I play and if I have one on when I come in I take it off. A baseball cap interferes with my vision and focus and I can't pull off the beret look.
 
I wear mine sideways, with a Mr T. starter set of fake gold chains, make the metal symbol and at random yell either, "I'm jus' sayin'" or "fo weelz dawg!"
 
Hats and sunglasses are such an advantage that they should be banned. :confused:

I wear a hat pretty much constantly. If I walk out of my house, I have a hat on. That being said, I never play pool with a hat on. It bugs me.
 
I play with a hat all the time. My game still sucks. The reason I wear a hat I'm just too lazy to comb my hair.
 
I take my hat off for 3 things
1. the National Anthem
2. dinner at my mothers house
3. sex, if it isn't in the car
