Do I think the BCAPL is hurting for the cost of cue balls? NO!!!

Do I think they are banning phenolic tips becouse of the damage they do to cue balls and the cost THEY ar encurring? NO!!!

Do I think they are making this rule for an exact reason. YES!!!

Lets ask what exactly the BCAPL is doing with there used tables.

Then lets talk about sponsorship, Diamond tables, Aramith balls, and you think thier paying retail? These companys that are mainstays in the industry are who they are through a good product and a great buisness sense,They normally supply tabels and balls for nationals which later get sold over cost and under retail.

An aramith cue ball at retail is 41.95 at msrp. Lets call it 40 for simplicity. Then thats through distribution so the whole sale is around 20. That means that manufacturing costs are probably around 10 dollars a ball. This is a very rough understanding and to be honest is a little one sided in favor of the manufacturer.

Also didnt the BCAPL raise their fees this year?

I think that the BCAPL is given equipment and then the equipment is then resold above cost and even if they have to throw antoher cue ball in at 10 dollars whats the big deal when your already spending 4,000 dollars for a used table that cost 2500 to produce?

This information is to the best of my ability and as far as I can tell holds an honest buisness standard. I hope to be proven wrong. BCAPL I jsut want to undersand...

I don't believe it is about replacement cost

Did you ever think that the BCAPL might be more concerned about the quality of the equipment the players have?
It has always been the rule that the cue should not damage the equipment. It has oviously been determined that damage is occuring.

If someone has to rely on a certain material as phenolic to jump or perform a good break I would suggest going back to the drawing board and become more skilled rather then depend on gimicks. I use phenolic as well currently but I certainly do not depend on it. The break & jump is suppose to be skilled shots... not shots any joe blow can become better at then higher level players because of a certain material.

I thought I read once that leather tips were frowned upon during their introduction. Something about the "crazy spin" and the "devil". Anyway, jumping/breaking with a phenolic tip does kinda feel like cheating to me. I'm sure that 300 (? give or take) years ago leather tips would have felt like cheating as well.

***Disclaimer: I do not like phenolic tips, but I am not opposed to them

i had to laugh when i saw that

i'm not buying these conspiracy theories...i agree with rackem

I think it is a conspiracy that the Free Masons and the Illuminati are behind. Mingaud didn't really invent the leather pool tip while in prison, "they" were behind it using him as a cover and have been using the income from leather pool tips to finance their quest for world domination ever since. "They" are afraid of losing market share to the phenolics and other synthetic materials and arranged this ban behind the scenes. The BCA board is dominated by Free Masons.
I expect a show on the History Channel about it anytime now.

Simple Solution

A simple solution is to make the balls out of the G-10 material. This would eliminate the chip in the balls we have now just from regular abuse.

Sorry Papa,

I was :rotflmao1:. I sure hope you were joking. Replace all cue balls so a few players with phenolic tips can continue to use them. That's putting the cart before the horse!

Which association was Edwin Reyes associated with?

JAM, I think you are confusing acronyms.
The death of Edwin Reyes has nothing to do with this thread.
Edwin was associated with the BMPAP, the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines.
The BCAPL is the Billiards Congress of America Pool League in this country.

I heard that the Chic-Fil-A cows are joining forces with pigs and buffalo to protest the use of leather tips!:grin:

Thanks, Rich. I was unsure about the acronyms. I knew a couple of the Filipino pool organizations begin with a "B," and they were similar.

Thanks for answering my question! :)

Folks,

Again I suggest if you don't like the rules, find another place to play! As far as I know, ACS, Valley and APA have not banned phenolic tips.

I prefer to play on the best available tables with the best available pool balls. If I have to give up a particular tip on one of my shafts, so be it. I can still break the balls every bit as well with more control. Get over it!!!!!

I was was just suggesting look into new materials with the technology we have now, not just the cue ball. We have changed from ivory to the material we use today. I'm not for or against phenolic or G-10 tips. But as we all know the nail and screws in the pockets chip the balls and the abuse from bangers that have no concept of the game. I don't care if they they use a Louisville Slugger to break with if it doesn't damage the equipment.

To have your phenolic tip replaced is NOT a big deal. You just need to find the right tip. With enough practise you should be able to play any shot.

At least they are NOT banning the actual jump shot.

Tap, tap, tap!!

no reason for phenolic tips

Phenolic tips are like every other equipment race, it only matters until everybody has one. Then phenolic won't be an edge anymore and everybody will be after my laser cut diamond polished titanium tips.

(taking pre-orders on the tips now, be the first!)
