have you picked up a lathe yet???
nope im trying to firm up a deal on a porper model b right now but if that doesnt pan out im going to purchase a new mid-size. until then im going to drive past your place to my parents and use his lathe to play around and experiment a little. i hope to have one in the next couple weeks tho. :grin-square: ive been picking up wood here and there and old bar sticks to play around with and i bought all the hightower DVDS and his book.
They're easier made with Sharpee.
Joey uses sharpies for everything. He even uses the colored sharpies to paint figure into his wood. Like was said in another thread, use the tool that gives you the best results
I make all my rings out of phenolic. I find that wood rings move a lot more and you will see it in the finish after a short period of time!

I have heard rumor...now this is unconfirmed at this time
There is a signature line of Sharpee pens, called SharpeeEddieWheat Cue Pens. I believe they will have all the appropriate colors for the veneers/sharpee lines to be directly applied to the cue. You will just need to mask them off so you can make super sharp razor points...Eddie perfected the method of dot to dot sharpee coloring, but most cuebuilders on this forum are not that advanced yet..And, I do believe Eddie has applied for a patent on the use of sharpees on a cue..might have to check with him.
Sorry cue maker guys...I didnt mean to burst your bubbles for you not being as advanced as Eddie.....one of these days...one of these days :grin:

Don't forget when they are out of ink, you can use them as ferrules.

Do's and don'ts , hmmmmm ... Get the arbor and blades from KJ cues ... Make more billet than you think you need because your repeat customer s may want extra shafts or joint protectors ... as far as actual construction you need to observe some being made , so find a maker to show you somehow ...

I agree with Doug about phenolic being very stable under the finish. Also when you install your rings it is very important to put them in compression while the epoxy cures.
When using veneer rings as an accent adjacent to the slotted rings, make sure that you use veneer colors from the same veneer supplier to match your slotted veneers.. I like to store my veneer rings and sheets in boxes from each specific order so that the dye lots are the same. What may look ok during assembly make look unmatched once it is seen under a clear coat.

The only way it would work is if the customer sends me there veneers. To many would say, "that looks great but I wanted just a shade lighter or darker." I think you know what I'm saying. Jim:banghead::smash::bash::help:

Hi Joey I been told by Hightower it will not work, but they do, never splite a ring. Tim , the guy that makes them would have to be careful who he sold them to, other wise someone would have a set, they been working on for yrs, for sale. There is a lot of parts inside these things, but one swing of the rubber hammer and you have a perfect ring . The last set went for $350. and name your size. Tim is out stalking Bambi for a couple more weeks. I use mine a lot on j/ps . Would not know what to do without them. We do lots of rings!! Thanks Jim
