Politics in a billiards forum?

Should this forum allow political discussions?

This is not a thread to discuss politics , but rather a thread to get people's opinion whether it should be allowed in a Billiards forum. Politics seems to infiltrate everything nowadays, should it be allowed in the AZ Billiards forums? Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

NO....POLITICS SHOULD NOT BE IN THE POOL FORUM
but there is a NON POOL RELATED (NPR) forum where politics is readily "discussed"
 
This was not meant to be a political discussion at all, but more of a Billiards flavored thread . For pool enthusiasts like me and many others, should there even be a NPR section inside AZ Billiards. To me, it seems a bit counterintuitive that there would even be such a section under the forum title of "AZ Billiards". To me, it compromises the Integrity of the game of Billiards by including the pollution politics provides.
 
I'm ok with it as long as it's in NPR. Pool players talk politics sometimes at the pool room. I close my ears and keep making 9's when they do. ha ha.

One thing specifically I don't like on AZB, is when you hit the "new posts" button, it shows all the political garbage threads. I had to stop using that button about 2 years ago and only press the main forum button now, for that reason. I used to like that button a lot because it would show new stuff in the cuemaker section, the action room section, etc. Those other sections interest me occasionally, but never the political threads. Now I rarely go into those sections and probably miss a lot of pool related content.
 
I don’t mind politics being discussed in NPR, I almost never look at any of that type of content. I really despise the same few idiots that try to slip that stupid shit into almost every post they make. In the main forum, funny pic gif thread, etc. It’s usually the same few people, over and over, posting the same dumb crap.

When AZB was started 20 years ago, there was no Facebook or other social media type sites. There were only forums. I think most people probably only joined one or two forums, so a lot of them had a "non forum related" section for their members. Today, maybe it is not needed, as there are probably a bunch of FB groups specifically for politics one can join and argue to their heart's content.

One thing with "groups" on FB, is there are thousands of them, and they each have a specific topic. Not a single one I'm in allows any political discussion. But with FB, you have access to any topic you want by joining a group on that topic. With the old forum style like AZB, it wasn't like that.

Yeah facebook will block and ban anything from one perspective and nothing from another.


While I rarely go there anymore, most recently notwithstanding, the NPR section serves a purpose and is just fine IMO. You don't want to go there, then don't.

I think the OP was referring to the whole forum, regardless as to where.

with most forums they make more money from click throughs so the more forums and the more looking in the more money they make.

so those side forums help pay the bills and keep the main forum active. it isnt cheap to run a forum.
 
Agree with most everyone else. Don’t want to see it here or in other pool related areas, but have no problem with it being discussed in the NPR area. I don’t go there for that reason but glad there is a place for those discussions to happen for the people that want them.

I belong to numerous forums for my various interests, most have a general chat forum like NPR and I think that’s good. You can talk about things outside the main focus of the forum with the people you know and like from that forum. I don’t tend to participate in them, but I think they serve a good purpose. And it’s a place to push threads to that start to move in a political direction. Which is better than just nuking them I think.
 
There is a chance for progress in pool politics. The ACBS has to drop its pursuit of banning players competing outside WPA sanctioning.

How likely is the ACBS going to change their politics? Can the ACBS even change their politics?
The reporting on the ACBS and its board members is limited and not as clear as the players being persecuted.

What if an ACBS member is caught taking a bribe?

What intentions would ACBS members have that are different than EPBF members?

Is the governance structure of the ACBS significantly different then the EPBF in terms of its ability to allow players to compete outside of sanctioned events?

Where are the reporters on the ground for these issues?

I do not support politics that is not pool related.
