Pool Action in LA Sucks, here is one day last week...

It doesnt surprise me that most of the people who have the means to bet anything serious in pool don't. It's simply not worth the hassle when you can cross the street to any casino, be treated well and guaranteed a fair game. At least in a casino you know exactly where you stand.

In pool you have spend a week talking about the game, call each other names for two days, make 100 changes to the rules and equipment and then if if you lose one set you may not get the same bet again. Who doesnt want to deal with those wonderful conditions?

There are a very few people in this country who do it right IMO. They make a game, set the rules, show up and do their thing. Pay when they lose and shake the guys hand. Its called being a professional and those people are the only reason I am still somewhat sane. They are a very small minority though.

I dont see why anyone would waste the time of trying to make serious games with strangers anymore. Its not worth the time, hassle or stress.

i'm not talking about big action like $10,000 sets. But its impossible to find $200-$1000 action. The economy was in the shitter in the 70's and there was action. People just go no balls anymore, that is what it boils down to. Look at the guys jumping up to play me-even when i got no prayer and wont flip a coin for $100. they are just looking for easy $$$, they arnt gamblers they are vulchers waiting for someone to get get out of line.

what ever who cares-honestly its a condition of our society that is bigger than me.

Fatboy - you were suppose to call me. I had a friend in the room that I steered into getting some side action on your man. That's what I find the oddest about the LA pool scene. Seems that there is more action on the side than is on the table.

p.s. Don't squeal the tires on the Phantom.

Sold a Phantom Last week, I grabbed a DropHead last January. Jus a lil $500,000 car to push around bev hills-thts one is for the miserable arm wrestler who has the balls to be nice to me when he wanted a favor but is a dick the rest of the time. OOPS I wasnt nice, Sorry, but its true. I got the proof of that.

sorry I didnt call you, I been busy moving. After that joke of a game, pool makes me sick now. Why even bother playing? If its worth doing, its worth doing for $$$. Since there is no $$$, I'm cold on pool now, I have better things to do. oh I turned down a $400 bet on the first set and then opened the window later-no takers, then when the 2nd set was 2-0 them a guy with lots of gamble wanted to bet $100(were down 2 going to 11 and their breaking) We were down a set and 2 games and the break when he ask's me to bet, NOW THERE IS A BIG GAMBLER!!!! How dumb do I look? Sure I'll give up 2 games and a break being a set down and bet more. Lots of heart he had.

honetly im done with the whole show. and all the troubled soles in pool...

I dont mean this in a bad way but maybe you need to relocate

Or else rethink why you are doing all this.... for enjoyment or to make a profit.
Because it doesnt sound like you are doing either right now

Hey, didn't you guy's know "fatboy " has been around pool for 25 yrs,. you should give him his due.

I aint got nothing "Due" or comming. I'm only as good as my last shot, when ever that was.

Why TF would I have anything "Due" to me., I got what I have becasue i made it how ever I could. Nobody gave me anything but good advice in spots, i been double steered, robbed, stuck up, but never arrested or had my assets froze. never any trouble like that. Life is what you make it, when your parents are bust outs and you dont like it. They were great people that taught me what not to do, and I made it. I made it real good-and ever since then all I deal with is people trying to get a piece of me from every angle and I still got my brains and that right there will always keep in the chips.

I dont want nothing for free, there aint nothing I want from pool. Its a waste of time. and until I find a store that sells time, I'm not wasting my time with pool the way it is nowdays. Simple as that. I got better things to do.

I don't start shit.

Since you opened the gate... You come on one day talking about how broke you are how you can't take it, you have no income anymore, the next day you talk about how you're playing 1k a game 8 ball and it's not enough of a bet for you. Then back to the I'm broke talk. Straight Bi-polar type stuff.

You talk about gambling at 100 a flip coins, but for someone with as much money as you say you have that's not gambling.

Talking about there is no action, well if you aren't staking anyone and just talking about the lack of action, then it seems that you're contributing to the problem. You'd rather talk about making a stock market bet on whether it goes up or down, than fuel a game between 2 players or than to put up a player in a game.

People give you a wide berth because you seem to have some money and they like that, just like with Dippy, you will have people who will ride the Fatboy train to the end, maybe they get something out of it.

I did the one thing I could do since I don't have your perceived money, I set up a few games for decent money between some top players, that was what I could do for pool. All parties were happy and seemed to enjoy the conversation.

I get along fine with most people on here, I don't call everyone my friend like you do, but I do enjoy the conversations I've had with people.

We have 2 totally different set of rules for life.

nah, its not about me, its about the sad state of pool. thats what sucks.

why do you constantly start shit? are you that mad at the world?

You know man, Hollywood Hills mansion just screams porn girls.

Porn girls will get you through times of no pool action way better than pool action will get you through times of no porn girls.

Ok, well take care, sorry that pool is a waste of your time. This is a pool forum, most everyone on it loves pool. Some give up their free time to provide pool to others in all parts of the country, some just love to play.

We all know you are better than we are, enjoy your time.

i dont understand why you are ******n about a match you agreed to.

there is an easy way to remedy coming out even. just play for the same amount you staked but play 3 sets. that way some one is going to walk out the winner.if its a pretty even matchup chances are you will be even in a race to 2. race to 3 and the problem is solved.

btw you did a big no no ! you dont ever jump up in the middle of a match and try to change the game. maybe that is why you have a hard time getting people to gamble with you if you have a habit of doing that.

if you ever did that to me it would be the last time you got a game with me. that is bs what you did.

Its not a no no at all..If u bet on pool its pretty standard that when races get tied up close to the hill or go hill to hill..U ask to bet more or adjust the race..I like to call it options mode..Anytime I am staking or in halfs and the score gets tied up I suggest this..Its the best way to gamble..I never have ppl get upset over this..If they are low on funds they can say no..If they have no gamble they can say no..But no harm in asking..

I was in LA in the mid 70s.
Went to all the pool rooms within 60 miles of it, it was the same or worse as you are describing it is now. And back then if you bet on the rail, most of the time it was a dump.
The bottom line is that most people don't have any money Eric.
Pool is an economy that feeds off itself.
If you are in a town with a big fish or 2 in it, all the players will get a little and pass it among themselves and try games they would normally not be willing to take.
Once the fish are gone and it's just piranhas, it's over. Most are just waiting for a big fish to swim into the pond again.

I didn't want to say anything man, but you opened the door which I figured you wouldn't open as you offered help and didn't provide it.

You once again misspoke. You've constantly played the, "if there is anything I can do for you card" to most everyone on the forum. Then you sent me some private messages commenting on how we had back pain which was similiar and "really man if I can ever help you call me" So I take you up on that, you don't answer. I send you an email which you promptly reply to and I asked you to go a few miles (literally) from your house to see if you could tell if a house is being lived in by driving by. That's all I asked. You blew me off, I emailed again, oh you're in LA but you'll be home tomorrow and you'll get to it, I waited a week, nothing. Emailed one last time to see if you were back in Las Vegas, you were, but you just hadn't had time to get around to driving a few miles from your house and turning your head from one side to the other. I ended up hiring someone to do it. Point is you tell a lot of people If I can ever help you let me know.

What you want to help is Eric. If anyone can ever help Eric is what you mean.

Ya sure you've let people stay in your mansion, and drive your expensive cars. I've let people stay in my small house and drive my low end car.

I got one thing going for me though. If I say I am going to help someone, I don't crawfish on it.

You're not genuine in my book, I sent you an apology email a long time ago saying I think I had you wrong, but in hindsight, I had things pretty clear and just wanted to believe you were misunderstood.

Another sad story. Fatboy can't get any action. The country isn't dry, read the posts. Come to Conyers and get played, they're gambling in Houston, FL has spots. The problem is you can't get played and don't want to invest the effort into letting people figure out how you play so that a fair game can be matched up.

Or you pull your I was playing some 1k a game 8 ball and I was bored. That's a ridiculous statement, especially for this economy. I can't think of another human besides you and Dippy who would say that 1k a game 8 ball would be boring, or be made because you can't bet more.

You got jaded the way you made your money, and now a normal or above normal amount is not interesting to you.

I worked for 3 days to get a friend of mine in action here in LA, one guy called me at 11:30 and said he saw him play on Youtube and he pulled up on a game we had made to be played the next day. He was cool enough to call me at 11:30 to break off the game we had made for the next day. That was cool, he is a cool guy. I wish he would have played, it would have been a good session. It was a even game; no way were we stealing.

The next day(Sunday) I did finally get a game made(thanks to another friend we got a good steer-he made the game 100%) for Monday at 330pm. two long days in the pool room to finally get a game for the 3rd day. considering the time it took to make the game it was like minimum wage if we win. There is just no action here anymore, it never was great like the South, but it really sucks now.

Here is how it went down:

It went like this we post 2 sets old school 9ball 2 races to 11 for $1000/race. one race on one table we liked and one race on a table the other player liked. I didnt stake him, I dont stake ppl, we both bet our $$$. I know both players and I knew it was gonna be close-real close. I have lots of respect for who we played-I'm not naming names. He is a old school player who I have always respected and still do.

First set were behind the whole set by 1-3 games, we dont have home court advantage, speed control was off and he was on the wrong side of the ball way too often. Missed a easy 9, jitters is what that was. He finally got it tied at 8-8.

Right then my fat ass springs up like a kangaroo out of the rail, I jump in between both players and suggest we play a longer set to 17 or 21 for the $4,000 in the middle. (the $4,000 is the stake for both sets $2,000 a side-in case ya dont know how this works). I wanted to win or lose $$$, I didnt want to break even. I wanted something definitive to happen, period.

I think its dumb to play a race to 3 for $1000(because it was 8-8 therefore its a race to 3). I said "Great you guys win the race to 3, and we'll win the race to 11-so were playing for hours for nothing" I said "Lets put $5,000 in the middle and got to 17". Nope they wouldnt. They wanted to play a race to 3 for $1000-Brilliant. And this guy has $$$ and been in big action, this aint big for him and his corporation.

We lost the race to 3, 3-1 so we lost the set 11-9. It was a close match as I expected. We dont have home court, the pockets at this room are cut different than the player is used to. So we were giving up a lot right there.

We switch tables(that was the deal made one set on our table and one on his table) he already has home court so at least we should get to pick the box. they wouldnt go for that so we agreed to play one set on each box.

We go to their box tee off second set-BAM!!! its 5-0 them, then 6-1 them. Sure now they are all fired up. For these guys historically this is not big action, this is put your toe in the water and see. I felt the same way, I told the rail its a coin toss when we tee'ed off. I could have bet a bit more on the rail but I didnt-it wasnt much anyways.

So at 6-1 I lean over to a guy I know for 20 years and havent talked to in probably 17 years, he said you got to win now or its over. we said that at the same time, it was kinda funny. Then I just walked away for 15-20-30 minutes and I come back and its something like 8-6 them leading.

I saw he got a handle on the speed a little better. Still we are not stealing under any circumstances. On a diamond table in a neutral spot they we got the best of it by a hair. But in this room, on that equipment-its a gamble last week or next week if they play.

So we win the so 11-9. Now the game is even we played 40 racks and the score is 20-20. Just like I told them, "you win the race to 3, we win the 2nd set and all this for nothing". And thats exactly how it went down. Aint my first rodeo. I was so pissed off I didnt come here for this past week, I didnt even play pool-why bother to be instroke when there is no action?? I didnt want to look at a cue. Play hard for what $40/gm one hole getting the worst of it? thats about whats here in LA.

So I got to thinking about it, the rail told me the action has been real dry, worst its ever been. LA was good action long before I was around in the 60's-70's I heard it was ok. Back to my point, I got to thinking about what the rail said-there is zero action. Now I remember the days when I knew if I lost, I could get into another game the same day and win my $$ back, or I remember days when I beat 4 people, or got beat 2 or 3 times.

My point is this. Action feeds on itself, and because there has been so little $1000 action here in LA these guys are scared to lose because they dont know when they are going to have a shot at winning it back somewhere else. Thats why the $20-$40 one hole is alive and well-its always there. But long gone are the days of action big enough to mean anything. I see these guys playing so seriously for $20/rack its a joke, then they drive home in a $40,000 car.

no disresprct to who we played, thanks for the action amigo. I just wish we would have played one long set for more. They pulled up on us when it was even, I asked to play another set for $1000 up to every penny in my pocket, my nose was open abd we didnt have to win if they played they had a good shot to win it was 20-20 and they pulled up, it was not a long session 9 ball goes fast. I didnt know it was that bad here in LA, the only thing I can figure is if he llost sho could he win it back from? and thats why he didnt play. He has tons of heart-I was shocked when they pulled up.

Thats how it went down on Monday. I'm not naming names. the internet has done enough damage(destroy) to action. I'm not playing guessing games with names, pool room etc. So pls dont ask me. Its not important, what is important is how it went, and why it died.

Pool leagues, $20 one hole, drunks in bars might all be fine but action is history like 8 track tapes, it was cool when it lasted.

To me, the strange part about this post is you seem to be acting surprised. You think this was bad? You should try winning in there, that can really be a pain in the ass.

I don't flip coins for action. I'd rather plant my money somewhere that could help pool rather than complaining about the lack of action. Real action died in the '80s. It's useless to try to revive it. It's a dead fish in the water today. If there is any "real" action, everybody sneaks around behind closed doors like rats trying to hoard their cheese. Gone are the days when action men perform on a field of green before the masses. Everything today is hush-hush. Sadly, in some cases, there's a reason for this.

If you want to flip a coin for action, put your money where it might help pool, like the Billiards Education Fund. This is the future of American pool.

Click here and look at the DONATE button on the left-hand side: Billiards Education Fund.

If you care about the longevity of pool in the United States, then this is one way to help. Anybody can flip a coin for a C-note. That doesn't show a man has gamble. Not everybody is willing to put their money in a place that will help American pool. This is one gamble that I wish more people would think about, which IMO is more worthy of respect.

So since pool doesn't mean anything to "fatboy" does that mean his "i saw action but i can't tell you anything bulls&%^(, will stop?" I don't think so because like i said and he don't get, he's been around the game for 25 yr's. I got under wear older than that[i don't still wear them].

Always have to wear clean undies in case you get into an accident.
Didn't Mom tell you that?

I have an custom cue case with a third zippered pocket just for a clean pair.

I rarely need them but feel much better knowing they are there.:p
