Pool Halls in Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge

Bayou Billiards was the main poolroom last time I was around the area. You're also in the middle of New Olreans and Lafayette.
More "real pool" probably happens in New Orleans, especially at Buffalo Billiards. (Not sure about the Sports Palace now.)
AZ's own JoeyA hangs at Buff's, so you've got "extended family" there.
Lafayette's got several pool rooms, and there's actually a big 9-ball barbox tournament within the next couple of weeks at White Diamond Billiards. (Depending on how soon you move.) The turnout and payout there is always good.

Pool's probably bigger in Orlando, but I'm sure you'll survive in Baton Rouge!

Best,

action but thin

Used to be lots of action there. Don't know any more though?

The report on Baton Rouge is that action is to be had but it is thin, not many action guys. Plenty of places to practice, not much action in the halls. Was excellent small action in the bars years ago but it has been a few decades since I drank so my information is very dated. Within about an hours ride a person can go to New Orleans, Lafayette or Houma. Houma is a comparatively small place but a pool hotbed. Slidell is only a little further and straight down the sled. Last I knew you could get hooked up for about any pool action you wanted at Two Sisters there.

A person could make a swing though South Louisiana and have a heck of a time for a week or three and should come out the other side quite a bit fatter if they are a solid shortstop. Playing less speed than that there are more than a few "unknowns" that might be the ones to finish with the cheese so play will have to be very careful. One thing for sure, anybody making a trip through south Louisiana will "pass a good time!"

Hu,
Thanks for the reply. I know that you and I have had our differences in the past when I stuck my neck out for for someone who I thought was worth it but I after learning what this particular individual was all about I went back and deleted all of my posts regarding that thread and would like to express my apologies to you Sir if I offended you.
Louisiana and particularly New Orleans is a great place to live, and look forward to getting back there. I spent 10 yrs of my life in that wonderful State and I'm actually looking forward to getting back there.
The Saints, Mardi Gras, Cajun cuisine, Jazz festival and most of all family :) Doesn't get any better than that :)
Hope to meet you in person too Sir.

can't remember

Tony,

I really don't remember the problem so I don't remember if I was angry with you at the time. It is definitely possible! :grin-square:  :grin-square: As I get older I hold few grudges though. I'm not sure if it is because I am getting wiser or my memory is getting worse. Regardless, I too have supported people I wished I hadn't after more facts came out. No big deal.

I'll be more than happy to meet you when you get back down in this neck of the woods. I am about fifty miles out of Baton Rouge and that was my home stomping grounds for years. We can get together there or we can hook up down New Orleans way. A serious shortage of anywhere with a decent table in my town.

By the way, my daddy's name was Sir but I'm not named after him. Hu is fine. :)

Right on Sir :) I'll let you know when I get down to "your neck of the woods" Lol. I lived in New Orleans, Laplace and ultimately Metarie and Remember a place right off of Hwy 55 (between Laplace and the north shore) where they served frog legs, shimp and crawfish ettouffe and some other cajun delicassy (that I cannot think of right now) :)
But bottom line is Louisiana here I come :)

Tony,

Sounds like you are thinking about Middendorf's, right on the edge of the north pass. They were closed for awhile after the storms but are back up and going strong. Of course there is no shortage of other good seafood restaurants down here too as you know. Bozo's is still open in Metairie and is my first choice.

the welcome mat is always out for you!

This thread is making me hungry. I love cajun food.

The welcome mat is always out for you and we'll get some real cajun food. Some of that stuff the chefs in New Orleans are calling cajun doesn't even come close.

Just in case you think you are hungry now, many years ago my best friend, a cajun from Saint Martinville, and I went in the swamp and caught a couple hundred pounds of crawfish. When we got back to his house there were a half-dozen of his aunts there and his grandmother to boot. It quickly became a cooking contest with each lady cooking their favorite crawfish dish. I have never eaten crawfish so many different ways before or since and all of the dishes were great!

I wonder

Does anyone from that area besides Joey A remember
Willie aka Lock n Load ?He is here in Atlanta now and tells
alot of stories about all the guys back home

I don't but that doesn't mean anything

I don't remember him but that doesn't mean anything. New Orleans was never my home base and I never hung with the gambling crowd in pool halls anyway. I decided very early that flying under the radar was the best way to make money and that meant not being part of the Greenway gang in Baton Rouge although I lived in and around Baton Rouge most of the time. The couple times I gambled in Greenway I heard about it for weeks so I took the hint and only went there with casual pool playing friends for many years building a rep as a banger there.

If you play one pocket, then you can normally get action at Bayou Billiards. They do have some nine ball gamblers too but I find there is more gambling around here with one pocket. There are lots of little weekly tourneys that bring in around $200 for first place. There is also leagues on M,W,TH,and F that I know of. PM me when you get down here and we can maybe go hit some balls.

Thanks for the input. I'm not much of a gambler just like to play the game.
Will definately pm you when I get down there :)
