Pool's Patron
Many fields have patrons, people who donate because they love the cause. City Symphonies, art galleries, food pantries, etc. have patrons who financially support their causes.
Eric has supported pool because he loves the game, and the game needs people like that.
It will take a true patron to elevate the game to where it should be.

Eric dropped off the pool map for a good fifteen years and when he resurfaced he had become quite wealthy. He showed up at a tournament in Los Angeles and immediately demonstrated that he was free spender, buying cues and other billiard materials. Since then he has managed to almost single handedly prop up the rare cue market buying literally hundreds of thousand of dollars in high end cues.
He has also helped out many well known players who had a case of the shorts, if you know what I mean. And I'm talking serious money here, like 10K a pop. And more in some cases, with only a handshake as a bond. In addition when many pro players come to events in Vegas, they have a free place to stay (at his version of Motel 6) and even a car to drive. This helps them defray their expenses greatly. He was also generous in hosting dinners with many pool players. I never saw him fail to pick up the check.
Eric has also staked several prominent players in tournaments and action games. In other words he is a full fledged dues paying member of the pro pool fraternity. At least IMO he is. And we do know he added $4,000 to the first Fatboy Challenge last month, and promised to double it next year.
It is true that he has not yet done many of the things he would like to do in the pool world. I think the declining economy has affected Eric just like it has most everyone else. I do believe his heart is in the right place and he wants to do more for the sport, and he probably will when he can turn things around on a personal level. As far as his past businesses, I just don't think that discussion is relevant or belongs on here. How many of us would like to see our past dredged up for review?
Eric has been troubled with various pain medications that he needed to control his SEVERE back pain. He seems to have turned a corner here as well. Yes, he has a temper. Don't we all? No one likes to be accused of things and belittled for their efforts. I know I have been pretty ticked off on here a few times myself.
That's about all I have to say on this subject. Personally, I think the pool world is better off by having Eric Petersen be part of it. As far as I'm concerned he can stay as long as he likes and leave whenever he wants. Unlike some others who have made big promises to pool players, Eric makes good on his bills, and when he says he will pay he does. My experience has been if he says the money is good, then it is! And that's good enough for me.
