Pool, Poker & Pain

I'm really pulling for these guys, but I'm starting to wonder about this project. I mean, how can they be making all these promises without even having so much as a pilot? By the looks if it, they also don't have the necessary backing to pull off a $250k minimum production. I've searched the show's website and there is absolutely no information about any dates, or any....well....anything period. Just hype.

Can someone fill us in on whether or not they have funding, film dates, network access, etc? I think people would show much greater support towards the project if they knew it stood a good chance of being realized.

Thanks

It has been the same thing for the last three years. Every few months a press release and then nothing. Who knows ?

I have serious doubts on the format and idea in general. I would prefer pool not be relegated to a sideshow. I know Blair and know that is not his intent with this but I see it as the inevitable conclusion for this type of show. I truly believe he desires to do something great for pool.

My biggest problem with the concept is that most really good pool players cant fight or play poker very well. If they could they would be fighting or playing poker. I dont like watching people do things on an amateur level on TV. I like watching people who are really good at what they do. Its why I dont watch Pro's vs Joes or any of those cheese ball shows.

All that said if he can get the show shot and by some miracle get it aired then he will have done an amazing thing.

I fully agree. The basic concept doesn't interest me either....however I'm still pulling for these guys. I like to see anyone do well in our industry, as it's incredibly difficult these days.

Thanks for the info.

I've been waiting on somethig besides press releases from these guys for a long time too.

Why would any good pool player do this and take a chance at getting hurt and ruining their chances at making any more money. It makes no sense what so ever.

So are you saying you dont watch Shaq Vs. It was kinda funny seeing him getting his glasses knocked off when going up against Misty May and Kerri Walsh.

What will anyone be playing for. Is it like an all around where you play for maybe $5000 per round. I think this Blair is an ok pool player and is betting on maybe winning the pool portion and possibly the poker and having more so of a lock on the fighting aspect. There is no way that any top player would ever do this. Is there weight classes or would Alex Pagulayan be fighting Dennis Hatch for instance. On a brighter note, I would like to see Earl square off against Ralf Souquet. This could be a good start to a new thread, viewers choice match ups. I can see it now, Parica out there dancing around like a monkey just like the guy from Bloodsport. :woot:

When this airs, I for one will be watching for sure.

Me too. I think it's a great idea, one which has been in the making for several years.

Bravo to Blair Thein for making his dream become a reality.

Rodney Morris is the pool coach. They have not assigned a poker and MMA coach yet.

Dennis Hatch and Tony Crosby are the only pool players' names I recognize on the Contestants page. Here's the link: Contestants Page

From everything I have heard through the grapevine, this is going to be a first-class affair. I can't wait! :p

I spoke with Blair recently in fact. He was here in town and actually took down some scores. He filled me in on how things were going. Sounds like he's moving in the right direction. I think it will be fun. Getting back in the gym to make sure I don't get crushed.

i think this may be the dumbest thing i've seen in a while. if the fighters are truly professional quality, hell even decent ametuers, who will be able to keep up with them. unless there are serious handicaping measures involved somone is going to get hurt. and honestly who would be able to hang with the pros of any of the disciplines? each pro should win his event against the others, ie. the pool player beats the poker player and fighter at pool, the poker player beats the other two at poker and so on.

I think it will be fun. Everyone I've told about it wants to watch just to see wtf happens. lol

It's hard to take this too seriously, but I think it could be very entertaining IF the matchups are chosen wisely.

I'll make sure to watch if this goes off.

GL Blair (and if you match me up with Yu Ram I'll enter)

Im not sure if things have changed but when it was just pool (correction) and pain, professional fighters or really tough amateurs were not allowed unless they were pool players. Blair said he never said he was the toughest guy alive just the toughest good pool player. How you regulate it i have no idea.

Don't want to be the cold water in anyone's face. I hope this new concept is a hit and they get filthy rich.

Honestly I can't imagine myself watching it. I watched poker for two years and then got completely burned out on it. I only play poker with friends or 3 - 6 in a casino and Beef Eater must be involved or no game.

I really don't like human cock fighting. Watching dudes beat each others brains out doesn't appeal to me. I respect the sport, it is the purest fighting sport out there, I just don't prefer not to watch it.

Pool looks like an afterthought here, a sideshow, something that can't stand on its on. I know they don't intend for that to be, I am not slamming these guys. I just wish an interesting format could be found for pool without a gimmick.

I have ideas about how to enhance the t.v. game. PM me if you would like to hear my ramblings on the matter.
