Pool Reality TV show or TV Show

So I've been seeing endless threads on here during my short time about the way pool is presented on Television or why it isn't popular etc etc. What I think would be good for pool would maybe be a reality based tv show. Maybe a guy and his backer on the Road and following them everywhere and showing the gambling and the match up for the big $$$ in all the real locations. Now obviously they can't show the entire match say if they are playing one pocket but they can show they could work it out. I think it would make for pretty entertaining television and would be watched by pool players and maybe even attract new people to the game.

or

Pool needs a good seedy show like on HBO, Showtime maybe centered on one player and his life. As we all know watch the Hustler or TCOM this could make for some interesting viewing

These are two things that could help pool. I think it's a mistake not to display the great characters and the gambling.

Just my 2 cents.

Exactly what I was thinking!

I like idea 2 though. If it were a series, ala Weeds or Entourage (or that one about the family that owns the Funeral home- name escapes me), I wouldn't expect to see much pool...I don't care though. I would like to see a season or 4 of The Road Show.

Crap- Yo usee pool all over TV in ads and in the show scenes. Bring it up front a bit more, Hollywood!

I agree that it would be fun to watch. However, it would have to be fake. Would you play anybody that came in the room with a T.V. crew following them? And, how stupid would the player have to be to allow that to happen? If he was good, his action would be dead forever. If he wasn't good, he would be broke real quick.

Well obviously this wouldn't be the "jack cooney show" where its a big secret or anything. it would most likely be a pro level player traveling playing other pro level players for the cheese guys that are already a face. Besides if some guy wins bing money nowadays it's not exactly a secret. If you win 10,000 or more word spreads like wildfire. They could always shoot it where it didn't reveal the other player's face if they didn't want to be seen. Then again some people might go off on the ego thing and love to be on tv. Like i said it was just a thought...sure as hell beat watching speed pool on espn2

I've heard rumor about a new pool based reality show. Actually, it's not a rumor, seeing as I heard about it first hand (I even know which network is producing it).

I'm not sure what the status is on the show though, as it was still in the brainstorming stages at the time. This was about 3 months ago.

Sounds like it is lees far along than the Kid D. movie...

A reality show with pool league as a backdrop could well make it on TV. Follow a league team through a whole season. If its APA or BCA, it could culminate with a shot at the finals in Las Vegas.

Amsterdam leagues draw many top amateurs and pros from all over the city and tri-state area. The highly competitive 9-ball leagues comes to mind.

Not trying to stir up any bad feelings the competitive talk cited in this thread about Team 9-ball is tailor made for TV sound bites and staged drama.

Or it could take a 'Dancing with the Stars' theme, pair upcoming amateurs being coach by professional teammates like Tony Robles or Mika.

Two ex pro players, now private detectives and poolroom owners, one male, one female with their office in the back room. Opening scene (5-10 minutes) each week of one of them matching up for high stakes until they get a phone call for an emergency job. They postpone the game until the job is complete, then the last 5 or 10 min of the show they continue the game. Johnnyt

Reality TV qualifer match

We could have the show based on getting someone into the US Open.

Why not have 16 amateur qualifiers all around the country. Each of which would be recorded and the highlights shown in 16 one hour slots. The winner of the winners side and the winner of the losers side would both go on to a 32 player elimination match at the end of the qualifiers. The finals could take place over a 3 or 4 hour period so people could root for their local heroes. 1st place would get an all expenses paid entry into the US Open with 2nd place getting the entry fee only being paid.
I thing that people all across the country would tune in and root for their favorite local hero. They would then want to watch the finals to see how the 2 people from their local area did in the final event. By the end of the finals they would have 2 new heroes to watch. They would then want to watch another 3 or 4 hours to follow them through the US Open and see how they do. The producers could then finish this with another 3 or 4 hours on the finals of the US Open.

Just an idea, if someone who knows how picks this up and runs with it, then good for you. If you want to throw me a stipend for the original idea that would be nice too.

i agree 100%...enough of the tournaments with the horrible commentators and pro's with there nerdy looking sponsor shirts. lets get to the heart of the game, what an average joe can go experience at almost every major city in the nation, action and everything else that goes along with this subculture!

I like it! Call the networks! Get an agent!:thumbup2:

I still say 1 RV and 3 good players

Take 1 RV 3 good players go on the road. Every few shows have a old schooler (Grady, Danny, Jack Madden, ect.) on with all their stories and insite. The players and the rooms would provide the drama. Stop in on the Expo, DCC, and the Open, maybe even the league nationals.
