Stop being so negative, teach a kid the real rules, be classy. What you put out is what you will receive. I don't care what your politics are or what cue you play with, just teach a kid how to love the game, a bar cue is fine. What is wrong with all you people who just *****, apparently you have to much expendable income or not enuff. If you take offense to this post you are part of the reason pool is not more popular and quite honestly don't contact me, I have no desire to sell you a damn thing. It's not about the money, I love pool and yes I suck at it. Enuff said!!!

This is a shocking post coming out of Wisconsin. Wisconsin is one of the hottest place for pool growth in the country from what I see. So many supportive, great players in the state. Seems you had a bad experience somewhere.

I've become so jaded I honestly don't even know if you are being honest. Let's make a difference, I will or another party should start a paypal accoun. We can donate to to get cues and tables into the hands of kids. Can someone please recommend something. Those of us who have a couple extra bucks will support it I'm sure if the money is actually going to the cause and not cost of doing business (ie Profit).

I think you are right-on.
The pro / retired pro players and the elite players at the local level, didn't do a very
good job of passing the torch to the younger players.
Leagues came into the scene and took over which actually diminished the game and
the future of pool as we knew it.
You can tell from the tone of the older players on this forum how condescending
they feel toward younger players.
Now the leagues are keeping many pool halls in business, but that is just for their
own survival, and has little to do with the advancement of pool.
The APA certainly doesn't promote the advancement of players.

Yes I have posted before shit faced and feel free to judge me on a personnel level if you are a better man than me. My morals and ethics don't change based on my sobriety. I live in Wisconsin, we drink to stay warm, JK, we don't need a reason. Go back to your miserable life *****ing about how pool is dead. It's not you are.
 
Please contact me if you have any desire to start a non profit to promote pool. At minimum 90% of donations will go to actually funding pool. Any help organizing this endeavor is appreciated, but do it out of love. The 10% is ear marked for unavoinqble expense.

While the delivery of your message should be taken as a measure of your passion and conviction, it's hard to get past the bite. That being said, I believe you're right.

I belong to several other online vBulletin communities and it's always the same; newbies get flamed for their ignorance (or having an opinion different from someone else's), leave and rarely return. It's like so many forget they too were newbies once and didn't know squat.

We should embrace the uninitiated and welcome their lack of knowledge or misunderstanding of things. If we do so, and educate them politely & warmly, we add to our power in numbers. Given the amount of "Pool Room Closed" threads I've read little other proof is needed to convince me we need more of us, not less. How we treat newcomers is perhaps the single best opportunity to insure the proliferation of our beloved cue sports.

would you care to explain why you feel the apa does not promote the advancement of players?

the apa does seem to have a reputation of being geared to getting new players involved in the sport and it seems most people believe their efforts stop there. that belief is not true at all.

the apa has the masters division which is geared towards higher level players. they also have the us amateur championship whic is only played on 9 footers.

heck they are even promoting a mini masters geared for s/l 4's and 5's. i think that is the best thing i ever heard of for lower level players interested in improving there game. i have played masters when i was just a s/l 4.

i would join a mini masters in a heart beat. its the closest thing to real pool any league out there has to offer.

race to 9 both 8 and 9 ball
no handicap at all
jump cues and push outs allowed

the apa has a format available for any amateur player at any level where they feel they can be competitive...what other league offers that ?
