Did anybody see the 2006 World Pool Championship on Fox Sports today? I turned on TV and heard my voice. It was the Quarter Finals between Ronnie Alcano and Wu, the defending champ.
It was shown "live" in Asia eight months ago and now we get to see the edited version here, only eight months later. Go figure.

I was stoked to watch it as well, but before we go and rush judgement saying that ESPN "blackballed"PUN INTENDED
tonight(MONDAY,Aug. 6th), it could be just a misprint or miscommunication on the part of ESPN. The reason I say that is last night ESPN2 had the 2007 World Series of Poker scheduled for 9 or 10 PM CST and another show(event) was actually on. They probably did kick pool PUN INTENDED to the curb, but mistakes do happen.

On my Direct TV, they list pool right now, but a horse racing movie is on.

It is crazy. They originally had 3 hours of pool scheduled for tonight. They revised the schedule and still didn't follow it.poolhustler said:
I highly recommend that everyone email ESPN and complain. It may not do any good, but it can't hurt. At the very least, you'll show them that some people watch pool on their network.

Why is pool bigger in other parts of the world? I don't know, probably has something to do with the short attention span of Americans. My wife is originally from the Philippines although she has lived here since we got married 33 years ago. She has practically no interest in sports of any kind and yet when I was watching a dvd of Efren Reyes playing Jose Parica she surprised me when she said she knew who Parica was. In the Philippines he was a superstar back then and even though she has no interest in sports she knew who he was.

That's because back then, Parica was THE premier pool player in the Philippines and as such, was an official endorser of San Miguel Beer. He was in most of the SMB TV commercials at the time (together with other local notables). I think he even did a couple of movies as well. (Kinda like Efren....)
