The pool world is going to be in for a VERY PLEASANT surprise.

I'm reading the book POOL WARS , a non-fiction creation by Jay Helfert right now and it is far more than I hoped for. Each and every story rings of the truth and it is as if you were there with him on each accounting. Jay has done a superb job of writing what I think is one of the best, if not the best pool book I have ever read. Right now, I am only half way through with lots more to go and time will tell if I think it is the best pool book written, ever. It will only be my opinion but all I can say for the moment, is I'm impressed, sincerely.

From the moment I started reading the book, I was mesmerized. I read half the book in one VERY LONG sitting.

Jay's book captivated me and it will captivate pool aficionados everywhere.

It will likely create some wannabee pool players for sure.

I've been around pool for quite a while now and I know a good and TRUE pool story when I hear one. Jay tells it like it was as he brings you from one fascinating story to the next.

I'm going to stop now because I have to save some of my thoughts for something else I am working on for Jay.

ALL OF YOU ARE IN FOR A REAL TREAT, and that I can promise you.

I dont think it can be a true story and a novel. One or the other.

Lots of stories are novels based on true events.

And I know that if anyone knows, it's Ron Hudson.
JoeyA (not so bad)

In for 1. Jay just needs to give us details on when its for sale.

I sent a rough draft (95% complete) to Joey for him to review. To date, he is the only person who has read this. I still have work to do to get it done, and then I have to find a printer/publisher to put it in book form. Freddie is helping me with this.

My goal once again is to have copies ready by DCC. I don't know how realistic that is, but that's my estimated ETA. By the way, thanks Joey for the nice review. I'm glad you like it. I feel the second half of the book is stronger than the first. Better stories!

What is the 411 Jay ??? When , where , how much ?? I'm in for autographed copy . Thanx, Howard

I'm not sure how many you plan to have printed in your first run... but please reserve at least 10 for us folks at Hard Times in Sacramento.

We also have quite a few players here that are AZ forum members so they will be considered first in line.

I know I will want to get one to add to my collection.

Now, if Keith and Jam will get it into gear, maybe two great books will be out in 2009.....

getting a book published...

Hi Jay....

Glad to see the book is nearly finished......I am one who also wants to read it....This business of getting a book published brings up a question I've had in my mind for some time now.......I'm hoping somebody here at AZB can shed some light on this.....

In this age of Internet commerce, haven't books been simply uploaded to the Net and sold in that way, effectively bypassing a publisher? I'm not sure about this, but it seems like an option that would eliminate a "middleman", so to speak......Does this process already exist? I know, lots of people would rather purchase a hard cover or paperback book; but I just thought it might be an option..............?

I would say that downloading a book even at a price is a non starter. The reason I say this is that if I order the book online I can then send that book out to 500 people in a second. With hard copy yes we could lend it to a friend but only one at a time. Just my 2cents. I can't wait to read this book.

Excellent point Bfdlad. I would imagine every pool buff in the world will want a copy of the book. Foreign language printings are a must do.
Jay, have you made a line yet on the book being out by DCC ? Over/under ?
There could be a lot of cash wagering, or pools here on AZB. as to completion date. Of course you, JoeyA, Freddy, and all your family and friends, would be exempt from any competition. (except for Vcash)

Dick <----wants to be sole Arizona distributor.

I see. I was just wondering if this type of thing already exists.

Here is a little bit about Jay:

Back in the 80's in N. Ca Sacramento, Reno etc. I kinda knew Jay we spoke just a few times but I knew who is was. Back in those days I didnt have any $$ and was shy, and a C player. I was very interested in the "Pool Culture" the players, gamblers, all the charcters. I watched for years as games were made, who beat who, who was playing good/bad etc. I have a very good memory(lst few years it isnt what it was) but my long term memory is good.

Moving foward 20 years I get re aquinted with Jay and we become the best of friends, and me still interested in pool players, past and present I ask Jay lots of questions some of which I knew the answeres to from the scene back in Sacramento/Reno/Hardtimes La(to a lesser extent), but I did know Sacramento. EVERYTHING Jay has ever told me has been 100% accurate, no BS. he dosent say it was $20,000 when it was $2,000-he says $2,000. I have never caught jay revising history, he dosent color it brighter than it was, and I like that fiction is fun but in pool it pisses me off, what happened was great enough that it dosent have to be revised to sell and Jay is 100% honest.

On a couple very rare times I knew something a bit better than Jay like what happened in Modesto or Stockton and when I tell Jay he listens to me and I have heard him repete what I have told him-EXACLTY as I told him.

my long story comes to a short point. When Jay Helfert dsays something its exactly how it was, no fluff. And I like that, no I love that. I dont like war stories that didnt happen.

Thanks Jay for being a friend, and JoeyA. I'm also glad to see both of you getting along-you both are too good to argue.
