Possibly the best 9 ball ever played on video

I know many have seen the Hong Kong challenge between Reyes and Stickland, but I came across this on google video and have never seen this video. It is kind of a summary of the mach and of all the great shots and outs from the entire race to 120 put together with some nice music. I believe it is the best 9 ball set ever played. Enjoy!!

Edit: the video is in the top right and says 1996 color of money in the "related videos" section. Sorry for not having a direct link.

If you ever get a chance to see the final match of last year's World Ten Ball Championship, take the time to watch it. Darren Appleton and young Mr. Wu played one superb match, and Darren pulls it out when it looked like Wu would come back and beat him. He showed a lot of heart and character to win this match. He had a great player breathing down his neck and getting out from everywhere. Yet Darren found a way to win. I knew then this guy was a special player too. A lesser player would have folded.

Thanks - I really like the music

And after three days, 237 games, and over 2,000 balls pocketed, with one incredible run out after another, the difference between the two players came down to the mental game.

Thanks for ruining it Jay. Now I have no reason to watch it.

Camel Pro Tour

Back in the late 90's when the Camel Pro Tour was on ESPN every Wednesday night at 8:00 P:M for several weeks, I saw Kim Davenport run 9 racks on Jim Rempe after being down 10-2 to win! 11-10

I thought that was the most impressive pool I've ever seen on TV! :)

Watching Reed Pearce win the US Open on TV was right up there too!

thanks for the link.

By the way

That black & while shot of Earl and Efren at the beginning of the video was taken at the 1986 Clyde Childress Memorial Pool Tournament in Richmond, KY. It's my favoprite shot of the two of them.

Now that's a great picture. A race to 120 in 9-ball between these 2 every 3 years or so from when this picture was taken, would have been the nuts. I don't think you could have ever found 2 other players that would have played close to what kind of matches these 2 would. I'm not saying they could never be beaten, just that this would have been a top rated matchup, of the best 9-ball you could hope for, at any time over the last 20 years.

I think the difference came down to the rolls, but their mental games definitely were a factor.

Strickland really didn't play bad towards the end, he just got a few bad rolls, and missed two or three makeable shots.

It's hard to have the match in the bag, with a 17 game lead, and watch Efren claw back to even on the last day. The pressure in that situation would cause most to have a heart attack....

Earl who I feel is probably the greatest 9 ball player to ever be born...and Efren who imo is the greatest poolplayer to ever live...that being said I saw this video and it was the greatest matchup I have ever seen personally and well worth the time to watch it all.

I think Earl put a 9 pack on efren at one point.

Hong Kong Challenge

You can watch the whole match on Google videos. It is in five or six parts. Search: 'Hong Kong Challenge Reyes" I have watched it many times. Still don't know how Efren won!

I always loved watching that match too, the atmosphere is fantastic. It must have been so cool to be there live. I agree the mental game got earl, but who knows.. it's a streaky game and people seem to feel that the break is 'broken' so to speak. Maybe if they'd played 100 more games earl would have been ahead. At that level it's hard to say who's better. I wonder how 10-ball would have gone, and who'd win a race to 120 in, say, 8-ball.

edit: as a fun personal challenge I tried to figure out the music strictly with online resources and bad french googling.
So far I've come up with:

1. Tatu - 30 minutes
2. Alizée - J'Ai Pas Vingt Ans
3. Alizée - Toc De Mac
4. Nakashima Mika - Fed Up
