Post dated checks for final 8 at Master's

No first year tournament should be a points event. Need to have at least one year to see turnout and if the stated purse was paid out. Johnnyt

Agreed and they are doing it again this year with the event in Dallas.
and BTW-Here are Archer's comments-I dont see them in the thread

ABP issues statement on Masters 10-Ball

On behalf of the ABP, I wish to issue a statement about monies from the Masters Championship in Chesapeake, VA. We have come to an arrangement with Barry Behrman, the promoter, for the players to be paid on the 15th of March.

We have post-dated checks and I have no reason to believe that they will not be good as I have been personally promised this by Mr. Behrman. We commiserate with Mr. Behrman and understand that the lack of general fan support that caused a shortfall in his expected gate for his Master's Championship and understand that this led to the need for the delayed payments.

Johnny Archer
Spokesman, ABP

Here is Johnny semi legitimizing funding payouts from the gate.

PS-Maybe the sponsors Barry is waiting for are counting on some orders coming in before they can pay Barry.

Really? 702-719-765 is your phone number? - I called this number 10 times and for some reason it doesn't seem to work. LMAO

702-719-7665. From a post earlier in the thread.

Yeah, he dropped a digit. Probably means he's got it in for Barry Berhman, right?

The full number worked for me.

Just thought you'd all like to know that I went to the bank today and cashed my check. There were no problems! That is faster than I've been paid for many tournaments I've worked on, much faster! Thanks Barry

I believe MG has the right to participate in any thread he feels like.

So whats the big deal, we criticize everyone and everything on this board. Well, some people do anyway.

Malum, when you have achieved what MG and his group have in the pool world, come back and have an opinion, OK.

Its guys like you that have to fk with everyone on this board and chase them off. Constantly, ya know, its so f/n old.

Then when Mark decides its not worth his while to post here, what do we have, one less valuable poster.

Lamlun, I don't think I've ever read a post from you that has been in a positive note, thats all you know is negative, right?

Thanks for your input.

I couldn't agree with you more. Thank you for speaking the truth.

We should all pray for people who are this unhappy in their personal lives. Healthy people don't hurt people. Hurt people hurt people.

I hope Mark Griffin continues to post and is able to recognize that sometimes unhappy people crave attention in the form of antagonizing, bullying and/or causing anger and hurt. Mark Griffin is one of the good guys, and we need more people just like him on AzBilliards.

The economy blows, and travelling to watch pool when its on a stream dosent help the gate at all-even if the economy is strong, streaming pool appears to be a gate killer-this hasnt been proven yet because its relatively new. If that turns out to be the case, we need to re-think streaming tournaments, or changing something to make a tournament economically viable. The internet has cost us lots of jobs, for all the good its created it appears to come with a price.

Launching a new event in this economy is brutal, it would cost a rail bird a dime just to go watch it, if it was a west coast rail bird. Thats tough to fade, the economy worse than ever in most areas and its gonna be for a very long time. I'm seeing cues for sale that I never thought would be for sale. Guys with big $$ letting go of cues that are next to impossible to replace. Things are bad. Barry took a shot with the event, I hope he can do it again next year.

best
Eric:)

That's a great point - perhaps these promoters can start selling the streaming rights to their event. I know it wouldn't be as big as TV rights, and it would be to a niche audience but it would be a start, and I am sure that some sponsors would like the extra exposure as well.

I would like to thank everyone who posted a comment in the 13 pages of my downfall in the AZBilliards Forum.

I want to personally thank DARDUSM, MIKE M., JCIN, IFIGUEROA, ZBOTIMAN, JUST RACKEN, KAM, CROWN CITY COREY, FATBOY 2, ABP BLESSINGS, JAM, CLEARY, KICKIN CHICKEN, MLALUM, CUESMITH, FALCON EDDIE, SAJMAN, NONSTROKE, and lastly a special thank you to Jay Helfert. I truly appreciate the support through this difficult time.

Again, I assure you that every check is able to be cashed at any Wachovia on the exact date posted for only 6, not 8, players left to be paid.

With sincere appreciation,

Barry Behrman

You have to appreciate the fact that Barry is up front, and not tryin to duck anyone. He is doing right, and making good on the checks.

........not only that, he actually comes on here at AZB and COMMUNICATES!

I like that Barry is reading these threads, and I have absolutely no doubt that he will pay the players

I also really, really hope that he will give the tournament atleast another try. I think he can make it grow into a big tournament.

But as I have said many times on this forum, promoters needs to improve. Not having the money ready at the end of the tournament is NO good.

If for example Barry had stated in the invitations that the top 8 would get paid 25 % in cash, and the other 75 % in post dated checks, that would be fine. No problem, and I'm sure the players would be more than happy with that solution. As long as they know before the event starts.

In fact, I think some players would really appreciate it, cause many don't like walking around with much cash in their pockets.

When Mika won the Norwegian 9-ball Challenge over Ortmann in 2006, I took them to my office to hand over the cash, and had $ 10 000 in cash. Both of them asked me to just go to a bank the week after and transfer the money to their accounts.

What happen to the John Archer group that was going to make sure that the money was there before play starts. This is not the first time that this has happen with Barry. Players should boycot the U.S. Open and make a statement that this will not happen again. Until the player say enough is enough, this will happen again.

I just thought I would bump this thread to the top on July 8, 2011.

I just read a press release from Barry on the homepage here having to give the final 8 players post dated checks. I know Barry has done a lot for pool and I don't like to see anyone that promotes pool lose money, but this is an on going thing. Players and their backers pay for eveything up front. When tournaments are over they should get paid. Johnnyt

From what I understand, Barry does not have all monies from the tournament in hand at the end of the tournament. Sometimes he is paid by check like everybody else.
There are 2 things I don't wish to see,
1) ANYONE losing money on or in a tournament.
2) Ending the best 9 ball tournament in the US after 35 years.

I would like to see this all worked out. The word COMPROMISE comes to mind.
Don

i think the sad truth is, every one of these posts about players not getting paid and TD's not wanting to guarantee money is like a piece of a symbolic puzzle being put together. with each post you can see a bit more of the puzzle. its quite clear the the picture we are dealing with is of a gigantic trash can.

.... The IPT was a debacle but his model was a good one. He just didn't have the cojones to follow through with it. ....

Let's be clear here about Mr. Natural Cures. It had nothing to do with cojones. As soon as he realized that he could not fleece big money from the feeder tour he pulled the plug. He built an elaborate Ponzi scheme with a pool backdrop. Why anyone expected anything less from this guy is naive.
