I know it's free and I DO appreciate it.... but this feed is really giving me lots of trouble. Anyone else? It keeps freezing and doesn't refresh properly. My connection and computer are good and I don't have any trouble with any other streaming stuff. Maybe they should talk to TAR!!!!!
 
Right click the vid, click options, set the buffer to 15 seconds. It still doesn't work like it should but it helps.
 
This is weird... It just switched to a frozen image of a carom match... and then back to the ninball match for a second... then John Schmidt was sitting there again... but his match is over. I think I'm hallucinating!
 
it does work for a few minutes if I hit back and then forward again on my browser... but "refresh" won't bring it back
 
It is funny because for me it seems to start choking always on the break! :O
I have also experienced the hallucinating effect too, like if it was recorded and someone had suddenly fastforwarded a few minutes. ??

My internet connection is not very good (3G broadband) so I thought that was the cause, but I guess the feed in itself has problems too.

I hope it gets better ;) maybe just a better connection on their part needed? or even uploading them to you tube after the match has finished... that would be great :)
 
Sometimes the venue site does not have enough power to host broadcast folks. This causes problems for well-meaning entities who want to show you what's happening via the Internet.

I have seen this happen at DCC and U.S. Open, too. It doesn't matter how many hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment you have on site either. If the venue cannot handle it, then you're stuck. And it is what it is.

It is a shame that these things cannot be ironed out ahead of time, but in that industry, it's always a hectic environment, doing things on the fly, troubleshooting, et cetera.

My point is it's not the people who are doing the broadcasting. Rather, it's the venue site and its amentities that are not conducive to this type of technology quite yet.

This seems to be a bandwidth related issue.

They are currently broadcasting at 300Kbs per viewer. This means the host location would need an Internet connection capable of 30Mbs "upstream" (around 20 T-1 lines) to support 100 simultaneous connections.

Since the bandwidth does not appear to be available at the Riviera Hotel, they could a.) lower the broadcast encoding quality or b.) Stream a single feed to a secondary host with oodles of bandwidth like USTREAM.TV or JUSTIN.TV.

I am with you, I think it is basically a bandwidth problem and that better solutions exist. The more people watching it, the worse it is going to be. In any case I am thankful they are doing this FREE live broadcast and hope it can get better somehow. ;)
 
This is their first time doing this, and I am sure they will learn some tricks and tips moving forward.

Next time, they may be able to address some of the problems they have encountered.

Are there different camera angles now? Last time I read about the broadcast, you could only see the top of the players' heads, like a bird's eye view of the table.

There's a good marketing opportunity there for logos. :D

Just like pimpin', streaming ain't easy. There's only a small handful of companies who know how to do it REALLY well, but the prob is: $$$$

Rule#1: Never use the hotel internet - always pay an outside co (Verizon) to install a short-term dedicated T so you're not competing with hotel room internet porn and youtube

Rule#2: Always use a tier-1 hosting provider. Ya know, that's been my steadfast rule forever, but after seeing how the president of UStream personally called the TAR guys in Louisville to ensure everything was OK with them, I was really impressed.

Rule#3: Have the right equipment

It all comes down to $$ and even then, you're praying something doesn't go wrong with your internet connection (which is out of your control - even when it's dedicated). The bottom line, unless there's a big time backer, these pool events will never be streamed 100% of their capability.

All I know is the Dragon site looks really nice. They just lack knowledge.
My heart is always with TAR - anything i can do for them, they got it.
 
a little hint to try

i was getting a frozen picture when i opened the page. nothing was happening.i have a mac and cant right click. i clicked on the video screen and the feed started. Try it. maybe this is where alot of us arent getting the video. Hope it works. Alot of great pool to be watched if we can get it running.
 
They need to fix that site. And I wish they would make it so they remember you so you don't have to sign in EACH time you check back. It's a nice site, too bad it has problems. Johnnyt

Thanks, I'm going to try that. I watched Hofstetter beat Crosby earlier today and it worked fine for the whole match but now it is acting up again.

you're doin' better than me, I signed up, gave my email and chose a password, now it won't let me sign in. I used the "mail me my password" thing and they did, so I know they have my email correct and I put in the password same as the email and nada....oh well...TAR still loves me....:)
