Proof reading is highly overrated

Where is this? I'll check Southwest for some cheap rates! :D
Strange no one has posted. Oklahoma City. Southwest flies there.

I'm pretty sure that room was involved with the $1000 to get in tournament a month ago or so.

The funny thing about many of the higher rated players is that they complain about not being allowed to shoot in capped tournaments yet they often skip the open tournaments. It almost seems they would rather play weaker players.

You do realize I stand no chance to win in an open tournament at a 725, I’m not stupid and not donating cash for nothing. At that rate I’ll play a cash game and stand to make $$

My feelings overscaled a couple magnitudes. Anybody in the 7s would know their remaining climb and the practicality of getting it done. Playing pool for any stakes beyond self improvement would have to be on the order of stealing.

I'm not talking about tournaments where pros are going to show up but local unhandicapped tournaments. Isn't your example kinda the same as you showing up at tournament capped at 575?

I guess my rating should be Killer B. Historically I have been allowed in B tournaments. My best payout was a C tournament in Spokane in 2003(or thereabouts). $890 for a $40 entry with a full field at 64. In the finals I played the gal that had pointed me out to the tournament director, as too good. 🤷‍♂️ I explained my situation and was allowed to continue. Well after a phone call to the Tri Cities tournament director that had given me the steer.
Being an ambassador to the game was key to being allowed in B tournaments.

I don't care for those players either.

I wouldn't mind playing handicapped tournaments. The caps are what irritate me.
Most of the tournaments in our area are either capped or handicapped. I think lower level players like playing in unhandicapped but capped tournaments. I think what people don't like about handicapped tournaments is where the weaker player only has to go to 3 games or even 2. Races cant be too long otherwise tournaments never end and that short race for the weaker player means they can simply win a match by a little luck and some fortunate rolls or unfortunate, depending on which side you are looking from. Like they always say, "anyone can win a single rack". A little more luck and a much weaker player can win a short race match.

Yeah, that makes sense. My area is weird. Some players don't like them capped, some don't like them handicapped, most seem to want capped AND handicapped... I think now that TD is an actual job for some people, they use the recipe that gets them the most green fees, which happens to be capped AND handicapped. Can't blame them, it just sucks for me being in a weird spot.

I believe he is. If not 650, very close.
Well I can understand that you believe that. I ask that you consider that perhaps the way the ratings are arrived at is less than perfect. I don't know of a better system or how to improve this one.
Perhaps the interview with Ronnie could give a clue as to how it is that I do better on the Big Stage(often but not always). I like Ronnie enjoy competition. I do my best to win. Some factors often effect what I am capable of on any occasion. Last night's league event is an example. I play in the Bullhead City league a little over an hour drive once a week. This is a social event that my wife and I enjoy. It doesn't however have me in top form. The drive has me driving looking into the sunset and arriving with time for practice time of 30 minutes for 3 team mates. So with 2 games against each opponent I get a total of 6 games lost the first 3 and won the last 3. For all I know my opponents Fargo rates might show that as about right. 🤷‍♂️ I however wanted a do over on the first 3 games. 😉
This reminds me of a statement Brady Golan made regarding losing to Rafael Martinez after Rafael had all of his matches on the tv table. Brady said, "you give me back to back matches on the same table and we'll see how he likes it." Well Brady did get back to back on the tv table as he rose through the losers bracket and played Rafael who held the point. Brady won. 🤷‍♂️ When I enter a big event I arrive a day early and practice on the equipment at least a few hours not minutes. I see to it that I am well rested and focused. Our weekly league has me in less than optimal shape on arrival. Last night by the time I found my form it was over. For sure an excuse alert would be appropriate somewhere in this post. 😉
I do however take offense at Sandbagger. My first win in a Big Boys tournament was after Lake City Red tried sharking me with the word Cheater. Fired me up and carried me through the lovers bracket and eventually first place.
Our last venture to the BCA Nationals in Las Vegas had me talking with a friend from Tri Cities Dave that was around 650. I told him, "the good news is my Fargo is 575. The bad news is I have earned it." Then we played in a handicap minni, with him needing 5 and me 3. I felt honor bound to beat him 3-2. 🤷‍♂️
So my Fargo is what it is and if you want to see my very best..........What was it Hancock would say?

Okay, first of all, I don't need to "believe" anything. I have known Eric (easy-e) for years, and played him again just before I moved to Germany, and he plays 650 speed, if not a little better.

Second, I have also played in tournaments with Brady Gollan way back in the day in the Northwest (as I used to live there), and before Martinez ended up living in his van and suffering from health problems, he couldn't touch Martinez. Even with the 1 on the spot. The level of play has fallen dramatically in the Northwest since it's most recent heyday of the mid-to-late 90s, and as such, Gollan gets a little bit more traction these days. Back then, Mike Zimmerman would have been a favorite over him, as well as Dan Louie. Hell, looking at some videos of Brady on Youtube, I don't think he even played as well as John Horsfall from Canada. Brady has a good handle on the 1 on the spot 9 ball break, is a good shotmaker, and "decent" position player, but there are dozens of non-elite players at Derby who would shoot him full of holes. His position is way too loose to excel at 9 on the spot break. He's simply one of the best the Northwest has.. "now". After the play in the region has fallen off big time.

If the weaker player wins 50% of those matches, doesn't that mean the handicapping system is working?
