I don't bash pro players I disagree with, and I don't jump on ANYONE'S band wagon. If CJ want's to play here, I'm all for it. The problem I have with CJ is that he only ever seems to want to play his game.

CJ seems to only address posts he wants to, fine. He seems to only start a new thread or respond to one when he has something he wants to promote/sell, not fine. (for me, atleast.)

I think higher of CJ than that. He's a professional that actually acts as such. (This is a HUGE rarity for us pool peeps.) Maybe it's wrong that I expect more from the man. I don't know him from Sam, but he is trying to change a sport/game that I love. If I can influence him to post more genuinely by "knocking" him, I'm all for it. I'm not looking for CJ to go away, I'm looking for him to be here MORE! I can honestly say that I would buy more of his products, if his promotion of them wasn't so blatant, and/or in the correct area. If he wants to fill up the For Sale forum with his TOI stuff, or his Earl documentary, etc. I wouldn't have one gripe.

I like the idea of what CJ CAN bring to the table here. Some people will say I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth, but I can honestly say that I want him here more. I want him to be an active member here in more than his current promotional capacity.

Sorry if this seems like a big bash on CJ, but it's been mentioned by SEVERAL posters, and I think most of us feel this way. CJ CAN DO FAR MORE!

The game isn't my teacher, but it is my favorite game. If we ever meet, I will ACTUALLY play you. Maybe SBE next year after you play Lou, you can recoup a little from me. Assuming I make it there.

All the best,

Well it's near 100% that Lou will not play so I am in little danger of losing any money to him. SBE is actually terrible for me to to try to play anyone. I have a very bad record trying to run a booth for 12 hours a day then gamble. People come to see me and we are lucky if we sneak in a couple games before I am bombarded with questions and people who need me.

Next year I will be on the road in the USA for a few months. I haven't done a USA trip since 98. This time around I have all you folks to hit up on my travels and we will make time to play some.

As for CJ, I think he already does plenty. I don't think he needs to do more and more shouldn't be asked of him. In this thread alone he answered every question asked of him, shared several gambling stories, shared his thoughts as to why he thinks 2 foul is bettter than one foul and why he thinks it's harder than one hole. What more can you ask than to have a world class champion conversing with you. Can you get Tiger Woods or Enrie Els to engage with their fans on golf forums at all much to the degree that CJ has here?

Also it's important to remember that CJ didn't start this thread. Someone else did and dragged two professional players into it. The thread title alone was incendiary and if not meant maliciously, which I believe it wasn't, the end result was flames and arguments.

Anyway we can disagree about it and still be cool. Looking forward to finally meeting you someday.

Best,

John

I have no superior knowledge. What I have is being a student of the game of 1pocket for almost 20 years. I've played the game, watched the Accu-Stats tapes, listen to the expert commentary, and traveled to tournaments and gotten to play players like Efren, Scott, Jose, Cliff, Alex, Larry, Chris, Warren, and on and on. I play and I watch and I learn, that's all.

^^^ That's why that line is in two of Lou's cartoons.

If you ever bothered to actually read what is said without your biases, you would know that the only problem I have with him is his totally inaccurate claims. Such as saying that he doesn't defy known physics, it's just that known physics haven't caught up to what he is cable of doing yet. I'm not going to go over what areas I have a problem with here. I've done that very clearly in the past. Take if for what it is. What you need to do is stop thinking that just because someone played great at one time, that everything they say is gospel and is not to be disputed. Any way you look at it, that just boils down to hero worship, and makes anything else you say very biased and makes you sound rather uninformed. You of all people on here should be able to see through his "marketing" for what it is. Not be swallowed up by it.

Sorry I can't deal with replying to points made inside quotes.

We simply disagree and that's that. It's not hero worship. I simply don't see things they way you do and have a biased outlook the way you do. You argued with him from the outset and are carrying that on.

I respect experts in their fields in just about any type of subject I am interested in. I listen to what they have to say and then go about researching it further. I don't put a lot of stock in the ramblings of people who never accomplished anything other than to listen to them and research what they say if they make a compelling case. If all they want to do is knock but themselves have not accomplished anything then I don't give their criticism much if any weight.

That's just how I view the world. I have no problem with people being critical. I have a huge problem when it's done disrespectfully, without civility and in a defamatory manner, such as you insinuating that CJ is a liar. Which you have done twice in this thread so far.

As for running 29 balls in a row in one hole goes or even twice in one day or twice in a year it's still a great feat and something that not a lot of players can do. Yes Gabe ran 60 in FIVE racks which you correctly did the math on is twice as many balls as CJ did in the TWO racks he showed us. If he had done five consecutive racks what do you think the score might have been?

I think it's impressive. You can denigrate it all you want to but my advice would be to show us that you can do it to before making it seem like it's no big deal.

I like the idea of 2 shot push rules. I welcome most changes to pool that will make it a bit more strategic. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Over the last 40 years almost all the changes made to pool has been in the direction of dumbing it down and making it a pure shotmaking competition. People have actually been debating making straightpool a one foul ball in hand game!

That being said: 2 shot push nineball more strategic than one pocket!? Give me a freakin' break! I don't think anyone can actually believe that, and I think CJ is just creating a bit of publicity here, with great success I might add.

Cool that really adds to the conversation. Keep keeping track because my stats are going to go up. +1 for this response to your post.

Really, John? What you just stated is that outside of making cases, we should not give any credence to whatever you have to say. Think about that for a minute or two.;)

Well, as to the difficulty, that all depends on if you are on the stall, or actually running out like you are capable of doing.

You are a smart guy...let's see if you can figure out the hidden innuendo I threw in my post without even posting your name to which you seem to be making it about you...t-minus 10 paragraph rant reply in 3, 2, 1...

Yeah pretty much.

I know a lot about case making and a lot about jump cues and jumping and not much else. I have experience in business but am not an expert. I have some experience in marketing but am not an expert. For these things I defer to experts.

I think people should read my opinions about everything else and give whatever weight they want to them.

I owned a little ten table pool room in Germany once. CJ owned several successful pool room/nightclubs. Kind of ludicrous for me to debate him on the nuts and bolts of running that type of business since I was an amateur at it compared to him. I can however relate my experiences for what they are worth which may or may not be helpful to someone who could benefit from it.

You're already wrong. I am not a smart guy. I just find it ironic that someone who contributed nothing at all to any of the conversations in the thread is complaining about the thread stats.

This was my exact quote....

Please tell me how this is complaining? I find this thread very entertaining...I am not complaining in the slightest. There are a lot of topics being covered in this thread that sort of caused it to spiral off a bit... I do believe the title was a jab though, so I do agree with you at least on that part.

Can anyone else here post a video of themselves running 29 balls into one pocket of any size like this?

I could post a video running 2.9 :-)

There's something about that video I just don't like.

Just kidding,I love edited video's... does he have anymore???

Are you suggesting this thread has Attention Deficit Disorder? ;)

This thread's pretty entertaining. Some thoughts:

Helfert vs. Wiley Debate Bet

• Easy to set this up:

1. Helfert and Wiley each write their "essay" on why they think their game is more strategic. email it to AZB staff.
2. A mod or whoever posts a poll, and the very first post in the poll contains BOTH player's prepared essay.
3. The poll is simple: which game is more strategic, 1p or 2-shot rollout. Pick one.
4. A mod blocks or deletes any comments EXCEPT those made by CJ or Jay. Those 2 can go back'n'forth.
5. They get 2 days to make their case and then the poll closes.

Readers can vote any time after the poll opens, but the very first words in the poll's post
encourage readers to A: stay out of it and B: withhold judgment until the final day.
Whoever gets more votes is the winner.

• SJD = 'San Jose Dick' McMorra if anyone missed AtLarge's broad hint. Sounds like someone who can play a lil!

• I think someone in this thread asked "so I can screw up shape and get hooked late in my run,
then just push out to get out of trouble? That's lame"... I haven't played much but think about this one and you'll see it's not really a "get out of jail free" card. You screw up, roll out so it's not hooked.
If I can see the ball then I can play a legit safety on you. You then must make a good hit or it's BIH.

Speaking of Golf, I finished Hank Haney's book 'THE BIG MISS' over the weekend. It's one of the best books on Pocket Billiards I've ever read and gives the facts about why Tiger is one of the best of all time (at golf, not pool). All you have to do is replace the word "golf" with "pool" in the book and there you go.....the best pool book ever written.

Oh, yeah, if I said he passed on one of my pool philosophies to Tiger Woods would you believe it? Well then, you'll have to read the book to see if it's true or not. :groucho:

I will do a 15 minute video presentation on why 'Two Shot Shoot Out' is more challenging that One Pocket and break it down into "themes and variations" like a musical score.

Also, I posted this earlier to show an example:

{ALL RATINGS ARE DONE ON A "1" to "10" SCALE}

ONE POCKET VS TWO SHOT SHOOT OUT 9 BALL

1) Difficulty of Shot Making - ONE POCKET "4" - SHOOT OUT "6"

2) Difficulty of Cue Ball Position (by length and precision) - ONE POCKET "5" SHOOT OUT "6"

3) Percentage of difficult shots to routine shots (routine pertains to speed, spin and angle) - ONE POCKET "5" SHOOT OUT "6"

4) Required level of stroking power and precision - ONE POCKET "4" SHOOT OUT "5"

5) Average difficulty level for shots pocketed - ONE POCKET "3" SHOOT OUT "5"

6) Average difficulty level for safeties executed - ONE POCKET "5" SHOOT OUT "6"

7) Average difficulty level for Bank Shots - ONE POCKET "5" SHOOT OUT "5"

8) Average speed of shots required - ONE POCKET "3" SHOOT OUT "5"

9) Average level of English required on all shots - ONE POCKET "5" SHOOT OUT "3"

10) Average distance of follow and draw shots required - ONE P. "3" SHOOT O. "5"

11) Average shot length - ONE POCKET "3" SHOOT OUT "5"

12) Average length of draw and follow shots required - ONE POCKET "4" SHOOT O. "4"

TWO SHOT SHOOT OUT WINS BY +12

I will do a 15 minute video presentation to prove these numbers with anyone in the world that wants to represent One Pocket.....with a fair panel of judges I'm willing to bet that TWO SHOT SHOOT OUT will prevail in a fair contest to establish difficulty levels.

I am willing to put my money up to prove this point against anyone that wants to do a video presentation of One Pocket....the time limit is 15 minutes to make your case on the table demonstrating and explaining in any way you choose to make your points.

Anyone that thinks One Pocket will clearly win is living in a fantasy land......I actually don't think it will be that close, as represented by the test above I believe I can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that 'Two Shot Shoot Out' is the most difficult game.

May the BEST GAME WIN.....'The Game is the Teacher'

DId he not break and run two racks? The title of the video is 29 balls in one pocket and that's what it shows.

He says he did it consecutively, not that he didn't take a break between racks. So what's the problem?
