Prulhiere Cues...buyer beware

I ordered a custom cue from Brian in Sept. 2012. I was told at the time it would take about 90 days. Here it is Aug. 13th. 2013 and still no cue.
Per emails back in May, the cue shipped, but I never received it. Guess what, he didn't bother to insure. He did offer to send me a couple of cues that were ready to go, that I could sell for around $350.00 ea. (according to him), but I said no thanks. I want my money refunded. I was told on May 4 th. to give him a little time.

Fast forward to today. Still no money or cue. I was told today that since I didn't want the cue,
it was put on the back burner.

I have got several excuses, (daughter got sick, shop flooded, lost in mail, debilitating disease) but only after I inquired about the status. I'm sorry, but if you’re doing something or making something for someone and a problem arises, you should let them know about the delay then, not 2 or 3 months later.

Brian may well be a standup guy, but my dealing with him leads me to highly question his business ethics or lack of.

In closing, after posting the computer pictures of the cue I order, several members sent me PM’s to inform me of the problems they had with their deals with Brian and the serious lack of quality of his cues. These comments should be made public so everyone can make an informed decision before spending hard earned money.

If anyone would like to verify the email conversations, PM me and I will be more than happy to forward the emails to you.

Some of the things you have said are true. Some are not. I will not justify this with a response other than this. AZ has become a place to attack people and that is a shame. No one ever comments on or posts on a positive or good review usually other than the OP. When you get a bad one they line up to tell you what a piece of crap you are. I do have a few people waiting right now longer than expected. The health issues are something I can't do anything about and I am very disappointed in the OP for making that public. I understand people want the item they ordered, but I am doing my best and that is the best I can do. I have 200+ positive feedbacks on ebay with a score of 100% and my I-trader is perfect. Everyone has a bad review from time to time, but I will take my 99% good reviews. A lot of you know that I take the attacks well and there have been a few. Once again, I will not let this get me fired up into saying things that can't be taken back. Now lets see how long it takes for this to load up with messages about how I am the worst maker out there.

Brian may be the most honest and best cue maker out there. I don’t know. I never received my cue and it’s not looking good on my money.
I did not intend to attack his daughter in any way, so if it came across that way I whole heartily apologize to Brian, his daughter, and anyone else that took my comment as an attack.
All I can report is how MY deal has gone down.

Pretty close to the same experience I had with Brian Prulhiere. I would not recommend his cues to anyone. I should have requested my money back instead of opting for a replacement pos cue.

I normally don't do this but I am on here and on Ebay everyday I see everything that sells. My question is Prulhiere sells 2 or 3 cues a week on Ebay why can't he get your cue done? This is a fair question not an attempt to bash anyone.

Very good question, but at this point I just want my money and be done with him.

He goes by cheap quantity instead of good quality. Check out my review for updated pictures of the actual cue I received.

you didn't rebut anything he said.

Give the man his money back, otherwise you're a thief, plain and simple.

I am not going to "rebut" anything he said on here. This is a public forum and this was a private matter. The most ridiculous part is you only know the facts from one side because I have decided not to fall into the trap of this forum, yet you give your opinion like you were part of the deal.

So do you commonly use thin wood veneers wrapped around a core as a construction technique?

That is what the pictures show. Do you advise your customers that this is the way you construct cues?

I would not have a problem with it if I was told of this up front before purchase.

Sorry, when you start screwing people out of hard earned money, people have the right to know.

At no time did Prulhiere mention using veneer wraps to build his cues. It wasn't until after I ordered my cue, that another forum member informed me about this. Dumb ass me should have canceled the order and ask for a refund then (like it would have done any good).

I kind of thought that but wanted to be sure.

His Ebay listings and website don't mention it either.

What it does say is: "I make them the old way, using forgotten styles, materials, and techniques."

I guess that statement covers using sheet veneers to wrap around a core.

Selling them on ebay was probably a very safe method, I suspect 99.9 percent of the buyers at his price point would not know what to look for, and if they saw a seam they might think that is normal construction. After all this has been done in woodworking for ages.

People are going to know the facts from TWO sides now and I hope more people chime in with their experience with you.

Any comments on my thread?

This is the computer rendition of the cue he was supposed to build for me.
You would think if this cue had actually been built, there would be some pictures of it!

I'll put some pics on here of it in a bit. Just to satisfy that there is a cue. I was holding off on this, but I am being put in a corner. I didn't want to air this out on here. You ordered a cue, a high end detailed cue. Something happened on your end and your exact words were "I don't want or need the cue" I told you I was a very cash strapped individual, and if you were cancelling, it would take some time to get the cash. You were ok with it til this other idiot started throwing a fit in the reviews and you joined in. I am not a piece of $hit like you guys are trying to make me look. You had an injury and can't play anymore, I understand. That doesn't make it easier for me to figure out what to do. Right or wrong doesn't matter at this point as far as "should I have the cash on hand" I don't make my public life common knowledge, but since he already made a note to this, every penny I have is going towards trying to save my own life (sorry if that isn't important to you all) So large amounts of cash on hand are hard when you didn't see it coming. Veneer cues? I have made some. Most of my cues are not, only a small fraction are, and I will start specifying every last detail of every cue I sell. The word veneer doesn't mean cheap by any means. It is actually just as hard to build. They have a maple core so they play great. It is not a scam, or any attempt to cheat. I didn't see a reason to share my building techniques because they were mine. When you core a cue then sand it down you are left with a small amount of wood around the maple core. Veneer is not fake wood, it is as real as the solid block. I guess that was a mistake. I DO NOT make crap cues. If someone doesn't like them, I am sorry. I will not, any longer, set back while these idiots who were picked on in high school, set back everyday waiting for a chance to jump on the band wagon and get involved into things they no nothing about. The OP has every right to post, but some of the other comments are just people who have no life. There are certain people on here that can't wait to run someone down. I have had people watch my posts, and turn me in for bumping a cue at 47 hours instead of the rules posted 48, and you know who you are. This childish crap on here needs to stop. This isn't a review, it is an assault.

I did say I didn't want the cue....after it was 3 months late

Post edited....I want to unload on this guy and say how I really feel, but I won't go to that level YET!

Using thin wood veneers around a maple core to create the appearance of a highly figured piece of wood is exactly what it is, an appearance.

It would have been best to inform your customers that you construct your cues in this fashion. (at least for those you say you have).

That is my point. I never said anything more than that, your cues may play like the hand of God. However you have mislead your customers and that is what you need to make right.

BTW this method of construction is like using decals for inlays. I hope you don't go down that path.

You seem to think everyone is out to get you, maybe you feel guilty for what you did in misleading your customers. One thing I learned from a hall of fame cuemaker is the customer is always right.
