Put Earl Strickland on Team USA in 2017 Mosconi Cup

As much as I'd love to see Earl come out and beat up on the Euros, I'd have to ask:
I may be thinking of someone else, but Earl doesn't have the best win percentage in the
Mosconi Cup, does he?
I believe he's still among the best, but some guys just weren't cut out for team play

This team will be different. Earl will be the mentor and seasoned veteran on the team. Every team needs one of those.

Earl has already put 100 percent of himself in any event he shoots in. Aside from his multiple championship titles, too numerous to name here, this BCA Hall of Famer can get there.

Though Earl has always put an effort on exercise and keeping in shape, he has never been in better shape now. Those on the scene in recent events said Earl arrived chipper and in tip-top condition, raring to go. He is the epitome of American pool, and like it or not, he's a crowd favorite to watch in every single event he competes in.

It is my understanding that the European team captain who is supposed to be Team USA captain has a couple wildcard picks. Earl Strickland should be one of them. Shane likes playing with Earl, and he is well respected by many of today's American young guns.

Team USA needs a veteran on the team, someone who's not afraid of the lights and cameras, someone who can handle the pressure on the TV table. There is no better representative in these United States of America than Earl Strickland. To not choose him would be wrong. And believe me, nobody on Team Europe would look forward to playing against Earl because they know he is powerful and can fight back.

December 4-7, 2017, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Earl Strickland for 2017 Mosconi Cup! USA, ALL THE WAY with Earl on the team!

The captain gets to pick 4 players out of the top 10 in points.
He then gets one wild card pick.

Earl currently has 30 points (15 points earned in two events) and is in 16th place. He has only played in 2 out of 13 possible Mosconi Cup Point events so far, with limited success.

To me, hand outs should be over with at the Mosconi Cup. Was Earl a great player? Yes. He is still a great player? No. Why do I say that? Cause he hasn't won anything in a long time and he simply doesn't play much.
We have seen in the past what happens when a Mosconi Cup captain gives out a handout to a player that hasn't been playing. They simply don't perform well at all, if not the worst of the group.

Earl just won the Maryland State 10-Ball Championship a couple weekends ago.

He's currently at the Don Coates Memorial Tournament in progress right now and was the highest bid in the Calcutta.

That's Earl Strickland! He's a winner before he steps into the joint! :)

He gets one wildcard pick.

And FargoRatings don't mean a thing. It's been proven.

One more thing about Earl, when he goes to a tournament and competes, he's all in, 100 percent. He's not there sightseeing, going to brothels, gambling all night long, and drinking with his buddies. He's there for one thing, and that's to play pool.

That's Earl Strickland! Team USA needs him more than ever!

Well........

I guess that's why Keith never made it.......lol.

Unless he is out playing golf with his buddies as was posted on Facebook.

I'd agree, a seasoned veteran is an important part of the team, but I'd never really thought of
Earl as the "Mentor" type, is he?
When I think of a mentor, a mentor is a teacher, has the wisdom and intangibles of many battles and situations that can
be discussed in a meaningful way with the student (or Paduan - for you Star Wars folks) and is someone they are willing to learn from.
A mentor, is a student of the game and willing to learn from those he is teaching, a mentor is patient and a motivating force all about the team.
I'd more think of someone like Nick Varner as the "Mentor" type, I guess he just seems that way, on the surface.
but I don't personally know any of these guys, so I may be way off in my thinking

Ok so 3 out of 14. 21% of the time. Not bad.

Keith doesn't need to make it. Everywhere he goes, no matter what pool room, people give him respect, even the Europeans.

Unidentified trolls on a pool forum, on the other hand, who gives a flying hill of beans what they think? Cowards behind a computer monitor that can't run three balls in a row.

While Keith and the rest of us are having fun in the pool room, you're sitting on the sidelines with your buddies, listening, hanging on our every word, because you are only an unidentified nobody.

You can attack me if you like, but there's no call to attack Keith. He's done nothing to you.

You'd be surprised at how everybody listens to Earl. At a recent Maryland tournament, it was as if he was holding a court session. There were about 20 or 30 people standing around him as he spoke, listening to him relay pool tales and other pool happenings in his life. He gave some sage pool advice to those who asked. He was outside in the heat for about an hour with the crowd. People do like Earl. They like him a lot. :)

I actually spoke to Earl a week or so ago, and he said he had been taking some time off, but now he's back and wants to get in the thick of it. He looks great and is playing great.

Sometimes it may help for people to take some time off from pool. When they come back, they're eager and enthusiastic. I think that's what's happening with Earl right now. He's on a mission to win.

if earl is in good physical and mentally sound and is shooting close to his heyday many years ago by all means give him a spot.
how about some new blood to represent the us of a? how about Zion Zvi? guy has won some big northeast tourneys the past few years and imho he can more than handle with most of the players usa will compete against.

How will he handle a shot clock?

While I agree that Earl is one of the best pool players ever I cant say that he is a crowd favourite anymore, at least not in Europe. Here across the pond there is a general consensus that Earl behaves so badly during tournaments that it crosses the border of unsportmanlike conduct BIG TIME. It may be the cultural thing but for europeans this is really a big no-no and even if Earl can still be a genius at the table his antics got to the extent where it is purely unacceptable. And from what I heard even Barry Hearn gave up on Earl for couple of different reasons. And yes, you are right, no one on Team Europe would look forward to playing Earl but mainly because of his behavior at the table...

Didn't Appleton slam his cue on the floor after winning a match last year?

Who would have thought that JAM is such a huge supporter of the Euro team that she would suggest a surefire way for the USA to lose?

well gee I dunno. all I know is from what I have witnessed he has he skill set and plays his patterns in a clean and artistic manner. I'd say put him on the team to find out.
