Questions for Mike Dechaine

This is easily one of the best threads we have had here in a while...

Wish more of the pro would come on here and do something like this, but I can also understand their reluctance to do so.

Thanks a lot Mike.

We do have a Pro section here which is pretty unused now, maybe the forum gods can add one for Mike?

Especially with all the negative posts about him on here it was great that he came on here to give direct answers.

The fact that this kid created a thread, despite those negative posts, has made me respect Mike Dechaine. To me, that shows professionalism, and I admire that.

I agree, wholeheartedly.

Very cool, thanks Mike.

Congrats on your TS win Mike. You played great and were up to the challenge.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years? More of a tourney player or a gambler? Or both?

I personally would love to see you match up more with the top players.

Great thread!!

Russ.....

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the forum, Mike. A truly outstanding gesture from you!

Please expand on the timing required for a strong break. I've analyzed the breaks of several notable players and they share many common traits. This "timing" thing is an elusive concept though.

Hillbilly promotes the release of the hips before all else. The arm then snaps from the shoulder downward and finishes with his hand at his hip (which different than you and Archer for example).

Do you make a conscious effort to release the hips first (creating a whipping action through your body)? Is that what you mean by "timing"?

I commented in the other thread that I don't know enough about you to pass judgement on your character, and while I don't know you personally I think this thread has given me enough to say you're a stand up guy and what you've shown in this thread is contradictory to what was posted about you. I really enjoy watching a few players in particular and you are definitely one of them. I think you have a charisma that is refreshing in the world of pool filled with guys that don't show any emotion, good or bad. You wear your heart on your sleeve so to speak and I can definitely respect that. When I first saw this thread posted by you I thought "oh no the people of AZB are gonna run this guy off" but after reading the responses it's been great to see everyone giving you a chance and being respectful. I agree with others that this is the type of transparency we need in pool with the players. In every other sport we know about the athletes personally and it allows us to connect with them. That's something I think pool could really use to help grow it into a more mainstream sport.

Ok, enough with my 2 cents, here's some questions for you.
Coming up, what players did you look up to?
What initially got you interetsed in the game?
What are your interests outside of pool?
Lastly, does playing on the Mosconi Cup team give you a sense of pride representing a whole country that playing singles events doesn't, and how was your experience in the Mosconi Cup?

Thanks for taking your time to do this thread. Looks like you've definitely changed some peoples opinion of you and that's cool. Congrats on your Turning Stone win and good luck in the future. Take care.

First off, thanks for the thread. Now I know you said timing is huge with your break. But are there any other tips you can give for someone who is struggling to find a consistent break?

I'd say to move your back hand forward on the butt. This will help with consistency. I also like to hit the cue ball down into the table, this makes it pop a little more so you get an understanding where you are actually hitting the front ball.

I would like to see myself changing the game as a tournament player. I believe it is going to take a couple more wins to sell some of the higher powers to be, but there is a market in professional pool. Hopefully we as the players can unite and give a little before we start to take.

1. I guess I looked up to Efren. I watch a lot of the Philippine players because I heard they were the best, and still are.

2. I love to golf, but it does not take over my game. I also enjoy good food. I guess this is one of the perks of being on the road all the time, I get to try everything.

3. The Mosconi Cup is the BEST event and player can wish to play in. You feel pride, nerves, excitement, etc. I am really hoping to make the team this year.

Mike - what changes would you implement to make pool popular again?

Before I go into detail with this, I would like to punch some numbers with friends just based off low averages. I know that implies absolutely nothing, but I don't want to sound like an idiot if its impossible. ;) Its a dream that can come true.

Thanks for creating this thread Mike. It's great that fans have an opportunity to ask a top pro some questions.

Thanks Mike! Great thread. Congrats on your win.

At what age did you take on pool seriously? How much time where you spending on practicing time back then?

Hey guys, thank you for the congrats:smile:.

I would like to share some info with you. I see that there were a lot of questions in the other thread and I would like to answer them. Please be respectful.

Props to you for coming on here and facing all that, most people don't have the guts.

Thanks Mike! Great thread. Congrats on your win.

In connection with this, did you find you had a natural ability right from the start, or was it something you just stuck with and worked at because you liked it? I'm guessing there was naturaltalent involved just because you've accomplished an awful lot at your age.;)

Mike

Congrats on the win at Turning Stone! This thread has really helped enlighten me about you as a player and as a person.

What is the most difficult shot for you to focus on?

Yep Mike Dechaine is the new Peoples Champion in Pool and on AZB.

Here in the Army Cockyness = Confidence So mike rock on with your bad self
